Which one do YOU prefer? Perfect

To illustrate my point: Same song, same music, same singer, lyrics translated from German to English

Very overcast morning here that's supposed to lead to a day of rain later. Listening to the immortal Charles Mingus, the album "Mingus: Ah Um." My favorite song on the album is "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat." I at first thought I was hearing distortion in the system, until I turned it up and listened closer, what I was hearing was the sound of the air going over the sax reed and through the instrument, a breathy sound modulated by the notes, great close miked recording of the sax.

Jeff

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

And why not meet at the Duc des Lombards also? Wink (I'll be there tonight)

So how does the M3 render the double bass?

Perfect for this 9 m2 bedroom. Tiny, but tight. They nailed it this time.

Tonight I heard rumbles I had never heard before (I am putting it down to FLAC or the recording, not the introduction of the Core) ... I’d say they were kettle drums with muffled “sticks” played softly in a continuous roll ..... I thought I knew this piece ! Off to listen to other recordings !!

This is my benchmark ... the first time I heard the piece was in a cinerama theatre in ‘67?

And you can hear the effects of the movie production process in this recording as sections are focused / heightened to tie in with imagery / theme(s) ...

By contrast this recording differed from the 6 or 7 others I listened to by the use of a single drum at these points ...

This is one of my few synthesizer Springsteen faves, but that Hot Chip version is really interesting.

Thanks for joining me Pete Smile

According to its bio on Deezer, remakes look like the trademark of Hot Chip.

The boss remains the boss for me too... Hot Chip version lacks of energy to my ears.

It’s Springsteen and anyone would find it hard to improve on his version of his own songs (although he managed it himself with the ghost of Tom Joad).

Original is generally best for me.

He’s called the boss and very few people dispute the title.

Just my view.

From what I can tell, the lyrics are mostly samesame.

I really like the synth loop, and what's either a competing synth, or maybe guitar?  Also, the beat is faster with both live drums and drum machine.  You could call it a dance-mix version, but I think it's definitely a different direction, and that's always cool.  Who wants to hear some dude covering it with a bad Springsteen impression?  blecch.

bought an LP copy a couple weeks ago at Accord, and finally listening to it.  Not as good as the Hammersmith Odeon live show in '75, as it's a mishmash of 10 years.  It's still Bruce live!  Rock solid.
