ARCHIVED FORUM -- March 2012 to February 2022READ ONLY FORUM
This is the second Archived Forum which was active between 1st March 2012 and 23rd February 2022
The Lumigon brand mobile phone was briefly discussed on the archived forum (T1), and the T2 has been touched on in a concept phone thread.
What are the latest experiences of Lumigon T2 owners? The phone looks solidly built with ICEpower and a B&O remote control already programmed in. But some reviews suggest that the single core processor makes the Android based phone already out of date.
I want to upgrade from a basic Blackberry that has always been very buggy and slow with web downloads, and the Lumigon appeals because I could simply swap my standard SIM card without needing any sort of upgrade from my provider. The phone also has capacity for a lot of extra memory to be added.
Is it a good phone with web access?....... I am not really looking for a computer with phone access which is the way smart phones seem to be moving.
Graham
EDIT
I bought two!
I have had a look, and cosmetically it is very nice. Underneath it has some clever software that dares to be different and cool, but it is or was woefully let down by it's 2010 hardware.
Oh it's an old version of Android, which after spending some very frustrating time over the weekend with latest pile of rubbish "Kit kat", is not a good starting place!
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

OS is ice cream sandwich. Seem to be lots of people blogging that they regret upgrading from ICS to jelly bean on other Android devices.
Expansys are the distributor for Lumigon. On their website they say that the T2 is the euro version of Samsung Galaxy S4 mini duo but that can't be correct because there is no duo SIM support and the Galaxy mini has a later version of Android.
I am not too worried about the phone being a year out of date compared with the competition...... too many reviewers don't do proper reviews but merely compare specifications. Old B&O systems suffered from the same reviewing practice when compared against apparently high spec Japanese hi fi, and as a Saab owner I have always looked for longevity in my buying rather than looking for a manufacturer who changed models every year.
Thread moved.

Previous Lumigon discussions are in the General Discussion area Martin.
Lumigon features a B&O IR blaster and ICEpower.
I fear, it will drown in the general forum but whatever.Moved back.

I can't comment on the hardware but I can say that on my aging Samsung S2 ICS was a significant step forward in functionality over Gingerbread, and Jelly Bean was similar but smoother and faster. I really hope they see fit to bring Kit Kat to the S2 as it arrived on my son's Nexus 4 and is even quicker and smoother than JB.
As long as you stick to the manufacturers updates and take the time to do a clean install on major revision updates everything normally goes well. There are a myriad tales of update problems with all manufacturers (and OS's) that generally require a clean install to correct ........ avoid the heartache by backing up and doing a clean install from the off!
Ban boring signatures!
I must say I'm an iPhone addict, but not an Apple addict...
Can anyone who has switched from an iPhone to a Lumigon give a review of their experience??

On the Xpansys website it says it is based on the S4 mini duos.
Good news if it did, but the specs of that don't match what is on their website ie the Duos is much faster!

Just taken delivery of a Lumigon T2 after receiving a very positive review via a message from another Beoworld member.
Too early to give a review here, but initial impressions are that it is very slick, and the quality of the case etc is first rate..... very high quality.
Chris Townsend:Brilliant, let us know how it goes. How did you buy it? I asked Lumigon...no answer, I asked Xpansys....no answer!! Madness

Expansys website said stock expected in 3 days..... but it kept saying that so I rang them up. Got no answer from customer service so rang again pretending to be a business customer and got through. Guy said they had three in stock and he couldn't understand why sales had been so slow!
When I looked at the website this afternoon it said stock expected in 7 days, but I suspect they may still have some to hand.
Chris Townsend:What is the spec on your phone. The lumigon specs don't match up with xpansys description as an S4 mini duos!
Android 4.0 as delivered. I'll need to read the online manual to dig further. I suspect the expansys quote about the S4 mini is wrong.
Graham.
Expansys state they no longer sell this product, so where do you buy one?
Even Lumigon can't help you buy one. Very strange way of doing business.
Further views.
Good review in the concept phone thread here.
Very nicely made. Steel sides, matt black back. Really good sound. Tried radioparadise.com through an Android App and through Google Chrome browser. Both work well, but big difference in volume.
One way of looking at this phone is that you get a nice in-ear headset and a B&O IR blaster for TV (or any other make of TV) control. So you could look at your purchase in that way, plus getting a free phone as a bonus.
Some touch screen buttons fail to work on first touch... a common problem with all touch screens. Nice sliding action for progressing through windows.
Side buttons are nicely hidden, but are also easy to touch accidentally, so you can suddenly find the camera on and have no idea how you did it!
Battery life doesn't look too brilliant if you are playing around with music and the phone settings, but this is something I need to check-on longer term having disabled automatic app updates and all the usual battery draining stuff.
As it's Android 4.0 with a single core processor some people will feel that it is 18 months behind the times... but it works and that's what counts as far as I am concerned. It's the sort of phone that B&O should have made themselves. Incidentally, the name Bang & Olsufsen and ICEpower feature prominently on the phone when you are switching to anything sound related. Because its Android 4.0 it has FM radio.
Takes a standard SIM and micro sdxc memory cards.. the latter slot is back-compatible so you can put earlier micro sd card in as well. Lumigon say that you can use up to 2TB memory cards, but I think that that is for the future because the 128 GB cards have only been on the market for a couple of months and I've seen nothing bigger.
All in all a good purchase, but time will tell.

That's really odd. Are they saying that they have just sold the last 3?
Expansys are the sole agent for Lumigon... at least that's what I remember from the Lumigon website.
I am sure they are still listed on the Expansys Danish website. Worth trying a European site?
ANd now from the Danish expansys website

Having now tried it for an hour or two I would say that the bass is fine on high volume, but it may be that they didn't tweak the sound system with a bass loudness enhancement at low volumes.

Was that Lumigon telling you buy there? If so they must have stopped manufacturing if they are sending you to someone dealing with returns. Suggests a new model is imminent ( or they are about to go bust through not charging enough for their phones or failing to market them!)
but if you compare to iPhone it´s miles away......

Resolved using an 'Equalizer' download to adjust frequency balance. Found that the auto balance left the bass too light on all music selections with relatively low volume on the earphones.
Chris,
Did Zussman's have any in stock at their advertised lower price? (Link in last message).
Chris Townsend:They are a fraud I believe. How hard can it be to buy a phone for goodness sake.
Just seen some comments on scamadvisor.com.
Probably best to see what happens with Expansys or whoever succeeds them unless you want to risk a return from that German supplier.
Still seems odd that Expansys UK had wrong info re stocks on their website and then suddenly went from 3 to zero. Maybe there is a container load in transit from China.
Chris Townsend:I'd try that German site, if I understood a word of it. The only German my school saw fit to teach us was "hands up" and "stop". So much for the classics!
Using google translate they say that they only deliver to PayPal registered addresses in Europe but the costs are not clear: maybe it shows up at checkout.
However, in the small print links at the bottom of the page this stuff about their recent bankruptcy and take-over comes up:

(Sorry about the long link but I'm currently on an iPad!)
Maybe Ralf / kallasr can clarify, but it seems to say you can still buy from them but if you bought before a certain date in November you can't do returns or refunds.
edit
You may have to open the page with google translate and then click on the links at the bottom of the page: the link above may just go back to the original item ad.

I bought there before, no problems at all.
They offer 12 months of dealer warranty.
There is a NEW phone on that site as well: http://www.hoh.de/demogeraete/mobilfunk/sonstige/863851/lumigon-t2-designer-smartphone-black-wie-neu
For 460 instead of 390 Euro...
I sent a query to Lumigon about where to buy accessories like spare batteries in future and they have confirmed that they still have a deal with Expansys and it's just that Expansys have sold out for the moment.
I managed to buy two phones from Expansys (couldn't leave out SWMBO could I?) , but in my last telephone conversation with them they were still talking about three in stock, so I would persist with telephone enquiries Chris or go for the new phone in Ralf's link. (Wonder why Lumigon gave you a link to the returned stock page?)
Lumigon have offered to send me spare batteries as a goodwil gesture, so full marks for customer service as far as I am concerned!
Expansys have just responded to an email I sent before I made my purchases when I was asking about their previous perpetual stock expected in 3 days message.
They say that new stock of T2's is expected 27th December.
Interesting thread for a non apple addict.
I own an iphone because I need some app. If I could use the beolink app on android, I will buy this one for sure.
4 beolab 5, beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2, 2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...
Dear All
I have some good news to inform you all. Lumigon is releasing a new updated 4G phone with revolutionary features in the beginning of next year where we have updated everything to the newest standards.
Our website will be updated with information in february 2014.
Best regards
