Thanks symmes
Take back all I said about plug and play!
you pay £600 to get told it might not connect so you need an Ethernet cable and download software update .....
we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.
Yep. Resorted to wire connection for the moment . Superb sound and as you say the Beo 4 controls it !
Not just volume ; other functions on Spotify such as next track . Trouble is the remotes signal goes to the Beocenter6 in the next room if you're not careful.
oh, and the funniest thing is that the sales chap in a London B&O shop told us that the Beolit 12 did not work with the Beo 4 and that you need the A8 if you want that !
we walked down the road to Peter Jones and bought the B12 there
never knew about Spotify next track ..... thanks for the heads-up.
the more I learn about B&O the more I realise I do not know.
While I find it a bit inconvenient, I can understand why B&O makes you have to use a wired connection to update firmware. It's awfully easy to get a system that bricks itself if firmware updates are interrupted before complete, and given the unreliability of too many wireless connections it makes sense to require a wired connection for this.
If you're having connection problems with wireless for music streaming that's another matter. I recently went thru a hair pulling experience trying to find out why I had streaming issues to my Playmaker. For me it turns out that I had a competing application on my laptop that was causing network access issues. Once I deleted that app I stream flawlessly. There can be a lot of different causes for streaming issues, but a couple of main ones are the router (a lot of inexpensive wireless routers are total crap), and the other is interference from neighbors wireless setups. If you search around the site here you'll find how a lot of this has been handled by others and hopefully solve your problem.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
One last attempt before we take the Beolit back to the shop. The Airplay function will not sync with the iPad even after software update and reset of the speaker . The sound is great but shouldn't need a wire connection !
ideas anybody ?
