Michael:
• My avant is scheduled for delivery on monday. B&O made changes to the floor stand which pushed delivery forward a few days. I know that it is on a trailer somewhere in Europe now.

If I am disappointed you must be gutted !

On Monday can we have an unboxing MOVIE not just unboxing photos ?

I'm confused about the discussion Confused

If I buy the Avant, can I expect a TV that's ready for the future?

LOL @ you guys! Thanks for making me smile this morning.

I am also excited for my 'new' (7 year old!!) BV9 that's arriving Tuesday, so we can all celebrate together! I could upload a 720p movie if you like!

By the delay !

If I had scheduled my weekend for taking delivery today of my Avant I would have been gutted to be told that it arrives on Monday because it would be a whole week before I could get my hands on it and enjoy it !

But I guess that's a comment on my work life and its pressures . . . . .

In a weeks time you won't remember of it was last sat or Monday.

Well, mine now arrives week starting 9 June.

Finally took the plunge and have upgraded to the Avant from my BV11. Will connect my recent BL18s to the TV, wirelessly.

Just in time for the World Cup :)

Wow moxxey didn't see that coming what made you take the plunge?? I was under the assumption that you didn't think there was much of an improvement on the avant compared to the bv11.

congrats on your purchase, what configuration did you go for?? table stand or motorised.

Simply a trade-in offer I couldn't refuse! Big credit to my dealer for making the offer (I won't reveal it). Was so pleased, I bought a black A9, too :)

Took me ages to make the decision. I really do love the the BV11's coloured frets, easel stand and think the BV11's sound is better than the standard Avant (which sounds very '7.4' to me). But, the BV11-46 will only reduce in value over time, the Avant truly does have a stunning picture, love the stand and it will work wirelessly with my existing BL18s. So, pros just - and I mean just - outweighed the cons, with the trade-in offer just swaying me to make the decision.

I'll connect the BL18s and, where they are located, I'll use the black A9 instead.

I wanted it wall-mounted. Sadly though, I think it's too deep and not as flush as the BV10/BV11/BV12-65, so went for the motorised floor stand instead.

It arrives in the UK 6 June, but likely to be installed week commencing 9 June. I bought an Avant my dealer had ordered for the store, which is why it's due to arrive on the 6th.

Wish I'd waited a few weeks for the A9 in black, but still love it. Had a BBQ last week and everyone loved it, except the neighbours! Getting very bored of my funk fret, less is more.

Rather strong words? Who was 'bashing' it? Two important points:

1) There are advantages and disadvantages for the Avant. As an example, the sound - to me at least - requires the addition of speakers, as it's not quite up to the level of a BV11. This isn't bashing, though. I guess they were limited to what they could do with a sound bar that moves back up in to the TV.

2) When any new product is released, it often takes time for people to convince themselves. On top of this, as I've said previously, when you've only recently invested a lot of money in a new B&O TV, you're going to be more negative than others - that's human nature. You're convincing yourself (rightly or wrongly) that your investment is better than the new product. But, there will always be new products (no doubt a 4K BV11, soon, as an example), so you just have to realise that these new products are only very marginal improvements (if improvements at all - the BV7-55 has way better audio than the Avant and a better panel for HD). Again, this isn't 'bashing'. The Avant can't better everything, in every area, plus come in at a reduced £5999 price point.

Wish I'd waited a few weeks for the A9 in black, but still love it.

The black A9 was originally released last November, Chris? I nearly ordered one back then. I love the contrast between the black and walnut legs. I'll get a red cover though, just for a change ;)

I just bought an ex-demo unit the dealer had on display. It was sort of a reward to the dealer. I also promised I'll move up from my BL11 to a BL19 later this year.

Who said anything about 4K? There isn't ANY 4K you can watch in the UK, on the Avant, apart from YouTube.

It might come as a shock, Flappo, but the new 55" Avant is capable of displaying HD content, too :)

Upscaled.

You can always watch some Netflix 4k. I've heard the bit rates is so low it's going to be awful.

At least it's got a nice stand. And the popping out speakers.

Not that harsh, bashing (urban dictionary). I get that it is annoying when new technology comes out but the thread is about the new tv and a few people were really negative towards it.

I use beolabs and the internal speakers as center or as the only ones when I don't want to play to loud. BL7-6 is a huge deep speaker so it cant compare with a "flat" tv. I don't know how they sound so I can't say anything about the sound.

Hi gang!

Long time, no see! Been busy with new job etc so haven't had time for this. I notice I even lost my "founder f". Sad

Last Sunday dark forces entered my home. My beloved LX5500 (my first and only TV) gave up after 23 years of excellent service. The picture is 10 cm high, it could be fixed but too much money for such old TV. The entire family is in grief as we lost a family member.

Finally it was time for me to enter the world of flat TV. Surprised to read on the net about Avant but it turns out to be a new TV. I called my dealer in Helsingborg (same as for Michael) and booked a visit yesterday (Friday).

I was already convinced but must at least have seen it IRL before ordering it. That was lucky because I was going for the motorized wall bracket. but the floor stand was absolutely stunning. The set gave me the same feeling I had 23 years ago with the LX (actually 24 years as I first had to work hard on weekends to finance it as student). Standing quiet, just looking perfect, and when turned on it enters the stage with elegance.

Of course the picture and sound was excellent so I ordered it on the spot. It could have been delivered this Wednesday, but I have to wait one more week for the floor stand.

My LX was pre-ML and this is post-ML. Nice time span for buying TV.

I will actually keep the LX hidden in the basement. It's connected to the ML and I've connected an Airport Express to the aerial input through an RF-modulator. This gives me AirPlay all over the house by just pressing TV on one of the BL2000's. No need for the expensive NL/ML-converter.

When ordering the stand I noticed a stand for Avant 85'', was told also a 75'' is on the way.

Will post reflections after receiving my TV.

Michael, no champagne for me but I received a nice wooden box with very nice hand made chocolate ("For people with good taste").

To summarize my feelings: "The King is dead, long live the King!!

Seems that the BeoGods were looking after you - 23 years of use and then you skip a whole generations of technology to land on what will be the start of the next generation.

Congratulations on your (mis-)fortune !

@moxxey - I too didn't see that one coming !

It is more than slightly irritating (the curse of the tyranny of distance) that many will receive their personal Avants before Australia even has its official launch  -- however I am very please for all of you !

LOL. Well, the only reason it happened was due to me considering moving up to my dealer's MK1 ex-demo BV11-55 (from my 46"). I had second thoughts after viewing the Avant a few times, he gave me a great price I couldn't refuse, job done. I'll miss my red fretted BV11, but I have an orange-fretted BV10-32 in the other room :)

Agreed. Totally understood as a lot of recent TV purchasers felt frustrated by the 'new' model arriving. I said nothing at all apart from my TV was coming and I received blame for moaning about HDMI 2.0. The 4K discussion was also off-base as it benefits all content at 1080 and above.

I had a BV7 and it was just time to move on. I realised that the technology in every area had been improved upon; engine, sound, panel, remote, connectivity and even stand.

On every count, the BV Avant is an improvement over what was the latest thing last year - BV11 and BV7. Thats just how it goes and that includes superior sound and picture. And it'll be the same next year when they bring out something again.

Lets be happy with what we have and for what others have as well. And lets really understand the technology before bashing it.

Mine's in. Ton of new software features not documented here, especially in the sound setup area. Hours of fun. The sound combination with the BL18 and BL2 is excellent. It would seem to me that they've done some clever work in software to achieve a perfect balance across the speakers. They just seem to pair themselves better together. Even the BL2 is well moderated, crisp and more controlled.

How do you work around the missing projector output? I really enjoy my projector and the missing output make me speculate a lot on alternatives.

I love the new avant, congrats to those that have purchased! I was really impressed with the sound, better than the old avant.

Off the back of people upgrading to the avant, I managed to get a bv-7 40 mk6 for a great price!  I assume that the used values are going to drop as the avant is half the price of other sets.

Why would you pay £6k for a 2nd hand tv when you can get a new 4k ultra hd for around the same?

Its about time B&O started selling something that is just about reasonable pricewise compared to other brands

@ nick.. Yes why would you pay more the Bv 11 looks so so over priced now.if it was Say 9k then 2k more would be reasonable if it had a 4k screen!

Like many with BV 7-55 and Bv 11's ect the price of used will drop as your right who will pay more when you can get more for less new!

I think this was a good move Chris. The 7-55 is absolutely huge and you need a big space for it to 'look right' in my opinion. There's no question that it's a fantastic television and arguably the best B&O have made to date. Too early to comment on the Avant but I do think both the 7-55s handled motion better than the 11s. As you know, I too was considering this TV. In fact I actually bought it, but on reflection I then changed my mind the following day due to its size. The Avant is special and I love it but I am not one for being an early adopter of new technology. I prefer to wait for at least one if not a couple of revisions before going that route and in the meantime have bought an old BV9 as I am sure you have seen in my posts. Always wanted to own one and like you, I was offered an excellent price that I just couldn't say no to.

Couple of things I am curious about...

1. Do you really think the Avant does produce a better picture than the 11? What footage did you watch that led you to this conclusion as I hadn't noticed the same during my demos at several stores?

2.  You're new black A9, will that go to the front or the back? I am guessing the back but then how does the sound give you stereo if there is no distance between two separates? Or, will it serve as a 6th or 7th speaker in your setup?

Simon.
