The Beonic Man: Couple of things I am curious about... 1. Do you really think the Avant does produce a better picture than the 11? What footage did you watch that led you to this conclusion as I hadn't noticed the same during my demos at several stores? 2. You're new black A9, will that go to the front or the back? I am guessing the back but then how does the sound give you stereo if there is no distance between two separates? Or, will it serve as a 6th or 7th speaker in your setup?

1) No, not necessarily. It's a fraction better, if anything. I'm happy with the picture on the BV11 and BV10-32. But, I don't fret over picture quality. It wouldn't be my main concern as the differences are small. The two reasons I bought the Avant were a) the trade-in upgrade price was too good to refuse and b) the MK1 BV11 will reduce rapidly, especially after trade-ins filter through and B&O upgrades/reduces the RRP of the BV11, which will happen. I fear I couldn't shift the MK1 at all next year. I always concern myself over the business aspect of doing deals :)
2) Black A9 isn't a speaker? It will sit in the kitchen, alone, replacing the BL18s which are connected to a PM. I'll use the 18s with the Avant.
moxxey: 1) There are advantages and disadvantages for the Avant. As an example, the sound - to me at least - requires the addition of speakers, as it's not quite up to the level of a BV11. This isn't bashing, though. I guess they were limited to what they could do with a sound bar that moves back up in to the TV.

I agree with Moxxey about the "standalone sound" of BV11 vs. the new Avant. The BV11 has a more rounded, fuller sound, and this is in part explained by the frequency range of the speakers:
BV11-40/46:44 - 22.800 Hz (the 55" model has an even better range as I've understood it)
Avant:60 - 22.800 Hz
The bass in the Avant does not go as low as in BV11-40/46 (and especially BV11-55), there's quite a bit of difference between 44Hz and 60Hz.
When I bought my BV11-46, the dealer said that BeoLab 11 will not bring that much extra to the sound, and this has also been my listening experience. The subwoofer level of BeoLab 11 needs to be set towards its highest setting for me to appreciate the extra bass compared to the TV's speakers alone.
So as a "music system", I find BV11-46 better suited for the job and – in my opinion – quite close to what the original Avant was back in the day. In a surround sound setup with more speakers, the new Avant probably performs better than BV11. Avant's speakers have more power to keep up with speakers such as BeoLab 20, and it has the dedicated center channel for clearer speech. It'll be interesting to hear more opinions about Avant's sound on its own, when the sets start to arrive at people's homes, especially from people coming from BV11.
Hopefully upcoming posts here and detailed reviews/tests will validate my upgrade decision. My dealer did not make a trade-in offer – we're going for a different arrangement – which makes me a tad envious of your hassle-free upgrade, Moxxey :)

B&O product history since 1991: Ridiculously long to list in a signature.
I'm watching the grand prix on Sky F1 hd on a bv11/40 , if you can get better pq than that I'll eat my hat.

One word of advice Flappo: you're extremely negative about anything *but* the products you own. You were very negative about B&O generally and the TVs....until you bought the BV11. Since buying the BV11, you're now negative about anything *but* the BV11.
The picture quality is arguably better on my BV10-32 over the Avant or BV11-46, primarily due to the size of the panel. Squashing HD in to a 32" and, to a lesser degree, 40", will always increase the picture quality (lots of pixels, small area).
Do you stop, look and read over how you present yourself, I wonder?

Chris Townsend:You made the right choice. The difference in picture quality between the Mk1 and 2 is much greater than I ever imagined.
Hi Chris,
Just want to confirm that I read your post right: is the picture quality on BV11 Mk2 noticeably better than on BV11 Mk1 (which I have, albeit the 46" model)? That'd be another validation for my upgrade to the Avant: getting the latest panel technology and version.
How did you notice the difference between Mk 1 and 2?

AFAIK the only diff between BV11 MKI MKII is the built in wisa module. The picture quality difference might just be a software update. I think the picture went better on my V1 after an update so perhaps they just changed something in S/W.

Ah, thanks for clarifying, Chris, I read that Moxxey was about to upgrade to Mk1 BV11-55...
And thanks vlohjr1 and Michael for your responses.
About the future value of Beovision 11 and its place in the product portfolio:
Since the Avant's design won't be to everyone's taste (I'm still sort of trying to get used to it), and the only 46" model in the Beovision range will be Beovision 11, I don't see it losing its popularity as dramatically as has been suggested by comments here.
Beovision 11 is a whole different design, I've called it more "beo-esque" – and in 40/46" sizes it's not as dominant as BV11-55. While I do see its price dropping, and people who are looking for a 55" TV probably going for the Avant, I also think BV11-40/46 are going to hold their place in the Beovision range for a long time.
Second-hand BV11-46 seem to be selling at the 5000 € mark (with motorized stand and HDD module installed). That's approximately 4000 euros off the retail price 1,5 years ago (I checked what I paid late October 2012). Quite a drop, in terms of B&O's value, but one that I have to live with.
I remember when the BV10 came out and how I felt that it did not look like a B&O design at all. I think this is how the Avant is received for some too. In time it will feel "right". I think so. The V1 was very controversial and I was not sure about it myself either at first but I love it now. By the way, I just realized that I could track my TVs shipping. It was sent from Denmark actually and has been close to me since three days ago. Annoying that it has just been sitting in a storage facility for this time. But tomorrow it will arrive. And I am not sure I can unpack it then because I still have my old TV up and running. Time to sleep so I can be relaxed for tomorrows delivery (hopefully).

My night would be pretty sleepless, if I was receiving the Avant tomorrow!

Haha thanks! That is how it is here. I have to sleep soon otherwise my eyes won't be able to make out SD from HD let alone 4K :D. I´ll update again tomorrow!
55 simply isn't big enough to show the difference between 1080p and 4k.
85 maybe. Maybe...
as for your other comments , it's only a tv. Get a grip. Lol.
So how far away were you watching it ?
about 9ft and I could see the difference...

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Saw it at the weekend at B&O Camberwell.
As an owner of a BV7 Mk 3 - the picture is obviously better. 4K was detailed and crisp, 1080p was impressive but broadcast wasn't so - yes the TV does some impressive upscaling but when its got an average australian digital signal to deal with it can only do so much and at 55" the blurriness starts to show.
The sound was good - I have a 7.4 central speaker, was the avant speaker better ? I couldn't tell without a direct sound comparison but it sounded good enough in the demo.
The design - The silver grill on the speaker didn't bother me as its away when its off. As I have the BV7 on the low stand , the avant looked obviously taller - but not as much as I thought it would. A quick cardboard cutout at home did highlight how obviously wider it was (although the bezel on the BV7 is wide and so the screen is no taller. It does a great deal to hide its bulk - and in my location it would be against a curtain and out of the way (I'm yet to measure the BV7 stand 'foot' against the avant stand 'foot').
Would I get it ? Only the broadcast TV quality on a screen that size would make me hesitate, on a 40 its not so visible (or the bv7 does a better job of masking it! - unlikely). Otherwise I'd jump in a heartbeat - and use stn brackets to attach the sony blue ray player to the back of the Avant.
Well done B&O - a great design at a great (for B&O) price.....never thought I'd hear myself saying that.
Now to start the process of winning over SWMBO...
ToeKneeAus: Now to start the process of winning over SWMBO...
Same here... she's stuck on the BV10/11 design (we have a BV10-46 to be moved to the bedroom) and she does not like the Avant...
I have not yet received my TV thanks to DSV shipping. They actually picked the TV up from denmark early last week. Brought it to Sweden and then sent it to different locations back and forth. Now they have lost one parcel and found it in another part of Sweden. They told me that it would be delivered today so I had to go from my job and take a 1 1/2 hour train ride home to be there. Then they called me and said they FORGOT to send it to the right place yesterday.. So now I hope it will appear in my apartment tomorrow. However I won't have any time to play with it as I am leaving for a vacation in the US on saturday. What a mess.
I really feel for you Michael, they need to get there act together after parting with a large amount of cash you would think that everything regarding the delivery process would be in order.
fingers crossed all will end well for you and soon you will be enjoying the spoils of your new avant.

I think so too and all this shipping of the TV makes me feel that it wears and tears on the TV itself. It cant be good to ship it around too much. I am actually quite upset about how badly this shipping situation is. It also says that it is delivered already on the shipping site. I am now at work 86 km away from home because I have to finish stuff before I leave for my vacation and I would have been able to today had they not f***ed up yet again today. If I have to wait for nothing tomorrow - don't be surprised if my next mail is from a psychological institution .

Yes, well both is things I will and do miss I hope so too. The currier called me and is here in about 30 minutes!
BOOM!
Michael: BOOM!
Nice! Now let's hope the TV won't say "BOOM" when you plug it in :P
Eagerly awaiting photos movies of the Avant in action, and of the unboxing – with highlights in slow motion!
