Be sure to leave it on movie mode for blurays if you haven't already done so.

I received my Avant this evening, didn't have time to try it as I had tickets for 'Edge of Tomorrow', but have been testing it for the last 2 hours.

1.  I have no smudges under the screen, the only smudges are hand and finger prints from the installation.

2. The stand does make a whirring sound which is different and more pronounced to the Beovision 7-55 that I had previously.

3. The speakers upon descending do make a faint sound, but I haven't experienced any banging so far.

4. There is an LED light flashing that when you look over the screen you can notice.

5. Standing behind the screen and facing forward, the left side of the back of the tv is warmer than the right side.

Not had time to try any dvd'd as I am waiting for the stb bracket to arrive, but happy with the performance so far!

Chris Townsend:

Never buy the Mk1 of anything.

Chris, you know from our BV11 ownership that both the smears and the light-adaption are present, MK1 or not. See my reply above. These are not unique to the Avant.

As Michael said "Notices this evening in strong sunlight". Yes, if you really go looking, you find them. But only in strong direct sunlight, generally. 95% of the time you'd never see them, but they are there. Same with dust behind an iMac screen - you can see this in direct sunlight. But usually you do not, as the iMac faces away from the sun.

I have smears on the rear of my BV11 panel and the light-adaption issues since 2012. I had dust behind the BV10 panel in 2011. People had dust behind their BV7 panel, from the fans, before that.

We have been complaining about that (dust and smears) for years.

An improvement on a new model would have been a very good news.

I'm sad too but thankfully for B&O that doesn't stop me from buying the products.

As for the socket, it had to be long enough then to lay on the floor just after the stand and don't stay "strangely" in the air.

The smears would have annoyed me, but would have been at the bottom of the list of my complaints compared to the stand, picture and noisy speaker etc

A couple of reports do not necessarily indicate a widespread issue. And some of us on here are arguably hyper-sensitive about finding issues which most people wouldn't find or get annoyed about. We expect perfection.

Besides, you put post after post after post online about your problematic BV11, for months.

Which is exactly why I got rid of it. I can obviously only comment on the issues mentioned on this forum, and I don't think those pictures of the smears are hyper sensitive either. I'm sure the vast majority of the Avants will be fantastic.

I'd still like to see it on its table stand in the some real world photos.

Once again this afternoon I had  another look at the Avant only this time I took my 3D Glasses along and what a treat I had, watching clips fron Avatar,Prometheus,Ice Age 3D on the Avant I'm sold .The Picture was solid with great black's as well and a nice depth to the 3d  also!

I can report on the Avant I wastched 3rd trip now, that the stand had no noise or the Speakers either when moving that I could hear!

I have been to see the new avant and was amazed I was told it does not do 3d

I was so impressed that i am thinking of selling my BV7 MK3 as the avant also does speaker roles and my projector can still be utilised.

@ Markiedee Thanks for the Congratulations..Shame to see the Bv7-55 go but it has too and the prices are starting to drop because of the Avant. The Avant can do so may thing in a way the Bv 7-55 can't.

@ Raeuber Yes I know not in 4k mode  but was still very very impressive enough for me to buy. Also the dealer  has never seen there Avant do 3d but was so impressed.

The Avant will be a significant upgrade from the MK3, from a picture-quality perspective. Even the BV7-40 MK4 was a significant improvement (I went from the BV7-40 MK2 -> MK3 -> MK4, before moving across to a BV10-46), at the time. I remember it being much brighter and sharper.

If you can match the Avant with a couple of speakers, go for it.

Just had final confirmation mine will be installed on June the 11th. Can't wait.

Now into more than a weeks ownership of the BV Avant. No issues on my end. To clarify some points:

- You can hear the very soft noise of the various stand and speaker motors - but you really need to listen hard for them. They are extremely soft and subtle.

- The picture quality is above any prior B&O product that I have experienced and the 4K screen makes a fundamental difference to all HD content from a Sky box. Tones are in particular superb, although maybe still a little too pink, but certainly an improvement over the 10 and 11.

- Really sorry to hear about the other individuals screen experience as mine is without any of those issues identified.

- I have had to update the software once as with all other BS4 based products last Monday. I do feel B&O should provide a summary change log on the screen to identify major changes or bugs fixed.

- I am experiencing - on 2 occasions - slow start for the Sky picture to appear. You can hear the sound track, but it then takes a further 3-4 seconds for the picture to appear. I have now taken the Sky box out of Eco mode and hope this will resolve it. Suspect this is more the Sky box than the Avant.

- Connection to my new BL18's is perfect. I'm finding that the balance of output across my speaker combination is vastly superior to that controlled by my prior BS3 based systems. The BL2 for example is considerably tighter and reined in. Sometimes in the past the BL2 could be over powering, now it feels perfectly paired. I'd be interested to understand from Geoff quite why this may be the case.

- My cabling comes in half way up my wall which has enabled a better setup I would suggest for the movement of the TV as the cable need length and flexibility.

- NetRadio is great. I've had the odd Connection Error which I'm not yet sure about.

- The new remote is simple and effective to use. I'm not sure the aluminium processing is quite to Apple's standards, but the shape has real art to it. Take a look at the side profile to see what I mean. It has a slight added dimension that is missing from Johnny Ive's work.  The OLED screen is pin sharp. Maybe its me, but I somehow like having the artificial weighting of the Beo4, it somehow feels more right with that added weight.

- Setting up the sound system with the Mic is very easy to do. Simply plug in the Mic and it automatically takes you to the setup menu. A few beeps later and its done.

Ha Ha Ha.......NIce One Moxxey...

@ Flappo 4 Content is coming Quicker than you think! And as I said seeing a Bv 11 tv  next to the Avant the,Avant was so much better in Detail otherwise I would not be interested in the Avant that I have now ordered and i'm really fussey with things like that, can spot crap within Displays with ease!

The BV 11 is a Great TV but things do move on and I like the 11 if it had been around before getting my 7-55 I would have got one but the Avant Changes things so much for B & O and Is a winner too Big Smile As I said before what the Avant is,also the price has changed the name of the game for B&O...There back with a good price and a Great Set!  That will sell and get them back on the map!

The olny thing is that the Bv 11 and the Bv 7-55 will suffer in price as the Avant is half the price of them and Im sure prices will be ajusted because of that which is a shame for people that have them but it happens and there are alot of Happy 11 Owners out there who will or wont change just yet!

I have the latest (22.05.14) price list for Germany.

Avant complete with motorized stand, BeoRemote and DVB-Modul = €8,390

BV 11-55 complete with motorized stand,  Beo4 and DVB- Modul = €10,890

BV-11-46 as above = €8,490

I also noticed that the BV 10-32 is still listed but no BV 7! or BeoLab 7

It will be interesting to see how the prices develop when the BV 11 begin to stockpile.

regards

Tim

I bet Moxxey you can't

He also mentioned he may be able to do a trade in deal on the bv7 mk3

I have to wait and see

My speakers are BL8000 x 4 and pair of BL4000 which I am happy with

Not sure on which subwoofer if any would you recommend

Hey guys. I'm in San Francisco now and I went to Bang & Olufsen here today. They also had smudges and dust under their screen and was going to replace it.

They also had the same problem with the stand as I did!

I also noticed that the electronic curtains does not work on 4K..

And that the beolab 19 bass is really nice. I want one, they had a matte black!

Solidsnake:

3. The Screen.  When the Avant was being installed I noticed some smudges around the screen.  But when I went to clean them off later, I found that these smudges were BENEATH THE SCREEN.

Sadly this is not unique to the Avant. My BV11 has smears under the glass in a couple of places. You only see it if a) there's sun shining on the screen and b) you look closely. ie. you go looking. In normal every day use, you don't see them.

Clearly they come from the manual hand-construction of the TV. When my BV10 had to have the panel removed, I noticed the next day there was a coat of dust on the inside of the panel, after it had been replaced! Incredible.

Solidsnake:

Another issue I've had every now and again is with the room adaptation function.  I know this is supposed to gradually change the brightness and colour balance of your image so you don't notice it BUT I found at times I would notice it jumping darker or lighter mid scene.

Again, this isn't an Avant issue, it's been discussed widely on here a few times. This also happens on the BV11. When dusk is coming, and the room is darker than normal, the light adaption doesn't work properly and it's constantly changing the panel lighting. You can see it physically adapting (by a few shades), every few seconds! I find this particularly irritating when watching sport.

I'm not saying these should happen or there's any excuse for them, but these two issues have been around for years - both have been present on my BV11 since 2012!

I would never seek to lessen the annoyance of issues such as marks discovered behind/inside a screen

Surprisingly, I see similar marks under strong light (LED torch) and careful examination of my Apple 27" iMac screen.

I would think it's probably just about impossible to ensure that absolutely each and every possible blemish, finger mark etc, is removed from behind a screen, unless a 'clean room' and robots are involved at every stage of manufacture and handling.

Given that I don't see the marks, unless I go out of my way to check for them (which I did when I first got the Mac - I'm a bit anal like that with new product purchases..lol) I've just decided to let the pleasure of using it to wash over me and I accept the minute, but otherwise unnoticed flaws in everyday use.

I wish I could say the same every-time my birthday comes around and I sneak a critical glance in the mirror at my own countenance!

Of course, if it's something that stands out like the dogs proverbials... that's another matter entirely..

Kind regards

John...Smile

I'm a bit confused because on the promotional video of the bv10 i saw online where the people are assembling the tvs they look like there making the tvs with the upmost care with gloves on there hands.

so I'm baffled when I hear of dust and finger print marks behind the tv that isn't something I would expect to see on a tv that costs 5-8 grand, sorry but it just isn't.

and although a lot on here dislike loewe for what ever reason I can say on mine behind the constrast screen there is no dust smears or finger prints, and now with the issues of tvs shuting down and freezing it really doesn't sound good at all.

I consider B&O to be the rolls Royce and bentleys of the tv world so when I read issues like these it really doesn't sound good hopefully something will be done to rectify these problems.

Off-topic: On my BV 10 (I'm afraid I don't know which MK, it is from 2011 with 3 HDMI ports if it can help), the lockups were solved with a software update (I think I'm on build 227).

I had the Bv 7-40 and then 7-55 for 8 years, and only had 3 or 4 lock ups in the whole time. The Avant was updated with the latest software release on Friday. I'm hoping its just a teething problem, nothing more serious than that!

Hi Sanjai, my avant GUI froze once or twice the first day I had it but hasn't since.
