Steph:

Wouldn't it be cool if the wood panel could match the wood finishes of the BeoLab 18 lamellas ?

Yes, and I kind of expect this from the Moment in the future. The B&O audio system to perhaps start with: Moment with matching BeoLab 18s. A very nice setup showcasing the best of B&O's audio competences and a coherent design as far as finishes go — and the NL would make it a furure-proof, expandable choice for a first setup.

It would be today's version of the classic Beosound Ouverture/3200 with BeoLab 8000 combination.

Could we also have a nicely designed floor stand for the Moment? Smile

They only complain about the price tag, the rest is of the review shows much interest and curiosity on the BeoSound Moment.

But if the Moment would use Spotify instead of Deezer it would also be possible to downlad one song with the Moment from the Spotify server and then stream this song to 20 Essences/A9s!?

Yes-no!

B&O wanted the streaming service to be part of their own interface - I guess Spotify don't like that and won't allow that.

They have - so it is told - an old deal with Sonos, which makes it possible there, but they want their own interface (and Connect) to be visible on the devices.

You can't download anything with the Moment, you can only stream (and distribute that stream).

Using an external device for Spotify/Spotify Connect is using an analog input - could be any sound - no problem there.

The great thing about this Moment is that it can get your dematerialised music from anywhere, from a NAS, from the Beomaster 5, from your computer's iTunes, from any app on you iDevice, Android, and from the internet (Radios and Deezer). That's quite exhautive!

One thing I have noticed as well, is that it seems to merge all these sources into 1, in fact into 2 sources: Music and Radio.

A radio station can be an Internet radio, in the classical sense of the term, or a Genre or Artist radio on Deezer for example.

Exactly! And that is the game, that - in my understanding - Spotify did not want to be part of.

Aparently Deezer sees things different.

But I agree that one should not have to see the base at all.

As the Playmaker came out, (almost) everyone lamented over the cheap plastic box.

When the Essence box came, a lot of people were scolding the plastic square box, that you would have to hide away.

Now they have (at least) tried to make a nice cradle with aluminium and black composite (is that composite?).

Must be hard to be a B&O designer Unsure

First thing I thought of, as I saw it, was the old BeoMaster 8000 - the Moment has something similar to that, I think.

Note: I am not saying, that you must like it . But that is, what they have come up with, and I find it ok - not spectacular, but ok!

Am I the only one connecting this picture with the design of the Penta? I believe these two would look right at home next to each other.

I was thinking for the entire unit, base included, with cables running through the stand — so that it would be possible to place the Moment free-standing similarily to Beosound 5, anywhere in the room (like between two BeoLab 18s).

I quite liked the stand for Beosound Ouverture, the one which had storage for CDs / cassettes on the sides. For Moment, perhaps you could store a NAS in the stand Smile

Alternatively, a simple floor stand with a pole could be cool.

For the panel unit, it would be nice to have a low table stand accessory, where you could place it at an angle, similarily to this:

https://www.lacie.com/uk/products/product.htm?id=10648

This way you wouldn't ever need to place the panel face down on a table... imagine a grain of sand (etc) on a glass table and laying Moment's panel on it: that would scratch the wood and/or display/aluminium. Outch!

Just like the Beocenter 2's "socket unit"... I really like the idea of one cable from the actual device leading to the "hub" of cables and plugs. I think it is an elegant solution. B&O could sell different lengths of cabling for the particular application.

In all seriousness, imagine how convenient and clean setups could look and feel if a B&O television came with a hideaway socket unit, so that all the cables can be away from the television. All you saw  (or not) was a discreet (maybe thicker) cable coming from the television going elsewhere.

I think the displaced electronics-box TV would be good if the "tail " coming from the back could be reduced to one cable. Good idea!

Isn't that more or less what Beovision 4 + Beosystem 1 was? (Yes I know it still needed several cables, but the recommended idea was to connect all peripherals to the BS1.)

Double edged sword, many people (including me) would find that very convenient, while others would be just annoyed with yet another box to hide.

Yes that's the idea. During the visit to the factory in Struer I suggested to them just that, but the engineer said people expect their TV to be in one piece.

I think they should indeed have a cable box or a deported electronic box. And you could clip it at the back of the TV is you can't hide it.

That is exactly the point!

I - too - would rather have the 'box of electronics' hidden away, only showing the panel on a small base station.

I like the idea of a pole (or similar) for it, too.

But - maybe/probably there is an ir-sensor located in the cradle - and that would then call for an external ir-eye....ouch 😥

Watching the comments, as with all new product announcements, is an amazing thing. A lot of negativity, some positive comments, some let's wait till we see it.

For me, while the new stuff is attractive, and certainly head and shoulders above most hifi gear, I find it not as well executed visually as David Lewis' designs. In fact, I found Lewis to be a more innovative stylist and designer than Jensen, as heretical as that may be. Still and all I think it's good, just perhaps not MoMA good.

I also think that once the whole multi-room Master Link equivalent gets straightened out, this is a very good set of capabilities and product to move into the 21st century with, it addresses all the changes in how we listen to music today, at least in my opinion. I would dearly like to see what the Moment and its mood wheel would do after learning my tastes for a while, I think that could really make me listen to even more music.

I know many here are upset at the changes away from the old style Beomaster/Beosound stuff, but it's a Brave New World. As for the comment about making turntables again, that would be a very bad business decision. If Tue seriously suggested such a thing I think the board would be justified in having him eliminated!

Jeff

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

Partly agree. Still like the mock-up Puncher made with the right angels of the screen.

However I already ordered one mid last year to replace my not much used BeoSound 5. So when I receive the unit I can share mine experiences :-)

@ Phil: I really don't understand this about "not having to see the base"... Without the base it would just be a tablet... and you will still have to put it in the base now and then to recharge it.
Anyway you can take the 'tablet-part' with you, so you don't have to look at the base -so what's the problem..?

@ Millemissen: I agree with you - Except, that the BM 8000 was not the first thing I would think of when I saw the Moment... Wink <img src=" /> But - I like the design of the whole thing and the concept.

@ 'some others':
It's not about just making 'something' that can be used with i-devices, as someone suggested...
Not everybody own (or want to own) "i-devices" - or use iTunes. I prefer any other 'smart' devices than those with a fruit on them - but that's another story... Stick out tongue
And those who are so in love with their iDevices and their Mac's that they only use those for music, are probably not the target audience for this device.

The Beosound Moment isn't multi-room enabled yet. This will come as a software update in summer 2015. I do not know how that will work from the ML part of the beolink network.

I don't believe it will be possible to connect the Moment with the ML/NL converter to a Masterlink system. The only way will be to connect it from powerlink-out to AUX-in of your BS3000, like you can do it with the Essence. So you can distribute music throughout the house, but you can't remote the Moment/Essence with Beo4/BR One from linkrooms (only with an App).

It was always a great feature of many Beosounds to have the option of different placements. You can use a BS9000 with a floorstand, hang it on the wall or put it on a sideboard. Actually the Moment can only be placed on a high sideboard. On the other hand it would be a hard work for a designer to create a floorstand that would look nice with the Moment. The Moment will never be an eyecatcher like a BS3000/9000.

Thanks for your replies Phil and Raeuber, but i thought the ML/NL converter could act as Audio master and have aux input....

I currently have playmaker connected to the Aux-in of the BS3000, was hoping to retire it and i really like what the moment can do, it is the most interesting Audio master product for some time and really well though out as such IMHO

Why would the Moment behave any different to any of the NL TV's when connected to a Masterlink system (via NL/ML Converter) ? My V1/BV11 behave perfectly normal as sources on the Masterlink side of my network (BL3500, BS9000 with BL8000). I can distribute the sound from my STB / ATV / Mac Mini connected to BV11/V1 on any of the Masterlink speakers. The same goes for NL "built in" sources like home media (DLNA) on BV - works fine on ML.

Actually you can connect a NL Beovision to a Masterlink system with the NL/ML converter. But you can't connect the Essence (also a NL product) with the converter to a Masterlink system, as far as I know. So I doubt it will be possible with the Moment.

The essence isn't a NL product. It only uses the Ethernet network to access your NAS, the internet, but does not YET implement the NL protocol over Ethernet.

I believe this will come in a software (or hardware?) update at the same time as the Beosound Moment.

But Masterlink products or the ML/NL converter wasn't mentioned. I fear this statement means the integration of the Moment with the new non-masterlink products (Avant, BV11, V1, Essence, A9). It's still not possible to connect the Essence to a Masterlink system in a perfect way, that's why I think their focus will (only) be to develop software to realize a multiroom audio solution in a real NL system.

Her full name is Marie Kirstine Schmidt.

She is Head of Brand, Design and Marketing (Corporate Vice President) at B&O aka 'Head of Creative Center'.

She has been working at B&O for almost 3 years now.

So she might or might not have been there at the Struer trip in 2012?

You can say, that she is part of 'the new generation team/staff' at B&O - she worked for 4 years with Johannes Torpe,

before she came to B&O.
