S8 is the best bargain b&o have imo.

And I have a LOT of b&o.

Aussie Michael:

Thanks MM I will try that setting.

And yes thank you for the link with the video, i did see that :-)

I saw you suggested the S8 but i got confused as you said BS8 and i thought... i just sold my BS8, and how would that work. But yes the S8 is a good idea and being that it's black it could fit ok - but then there's more wires. I can't afford a BL19, so i was even thinking a BL11. I'm not sure how much the S8 even costs, but I read here previously that it's a great value sub.

I know what you mean about the swapping of the speaker groups, and I was thinking i wonder if I can make one of the colour buttons on my remote be a "shortcut" to speaker groups :-)

Thanks Mjmedlo lol

With the S8, and connecting to the TV to use as 2.1 the setup guide shows that you have to buy the RJ45 PL cables to use with the system separately.  Is that correct?  Did you have to do that?

Hi Michael,

there is no 'red button trick' for a particular speakers group.

But you can use the MyButtons for that.

Make a setup watching tv - with all preferred settings (including the 'mono/center speakers group'.

Pick one of the MyButtons to save that!

Make another setup - with the 'front/left-center-front/right' group, and save that to another MyButton.

Now you have two shortcuts for what you intended.

--

Certainly I meant the S8 (BeoPlay S8).

Sure you will have to deal with cables for the satelites. But, even if you would go for a WiSA solution for the fronts, you would have to deal with cables = power cables!

The sub must - in your case - be connected via two RJ45-PL cables. No big deal - those are the standart PL cables nowadays. And (of course) a power cord. Yes, you would have to buy these PL cables seperately Big Smile

You connect and configure these three speakers as 'sub', 'front/left' and 'front/right' - your existing rears/surrounds stays as they are now.

Adding a BL11 would be another great solution, if you want to keep it simple and without external fronts.. But you'd probably pay more for a second hand BL11, than you would have to for the S8.

And you would have to run cables too!

If you use the s8. I'd connect individually with rj45. This way you get discrete subwoofer control.

Thanks MJ

I'll take a look at it when I am next in the store and also give it a demo

I was wondering how much in $aud it would cost

I suppose I could have used the subwoofer in the corner to hide all my cables Whistle

Aussie Michael:
Upon unpacking the screen and installing it on the stand the guys call me over to have a look and there is a little piece of something under the glass in the top left hand corner.  This looks like packing material.  They asked me what I would like to do and of course I don't really know, so I said continue and i'll work it out with the dealer when they call in the afternoon.  How it got there who knows and to be honest I don't really know what it is.  Sort of looks like a fibre of some sort.  I spoke with the dealer and they will arrange service to come take a look at it for me.  They will likely remove the glass and blow out what's there.

Ok Service came today - all blown out, even though it was minor.  No issue now :-)

I know the Beovision 11 frame and glass are one piece and is held in place by a few screws.

Is the Avant glass held in place by screws, glue, sealant... especially curious because there's no apparent frame.

My BL19 should arrive this week.

I called the dealer to find out what's going on as I hadn't heard. It seems I have to keep ringing. Anyway.... 2 months later lol

Haven't ordered the IQ3 yet as I went to the Foxtel kiosk at chadstone and as I have my Foxtel through Telstra the Telstra Foxtel launch date was one week later, so I'm calling them tomorrow

In relation to my BL 19 I made another call to the dealer as when I spoke to them on Wednesday they promised to call me on Thursday as it was coming in. Come today, Friday no call so I called them (again) and yes it's in and I can come and pick it up.

Chris, The level of customer service truly is below par. A customer shouldn't have to chase the company they should be updating me. I'll provide them the feedback that they need to provide better information during the process, especially as I purchased this from a different shop than my usual. Grrr. Anyway tomorrow I'll ask them what are the best settings to use when setting it up.

Remind me which one you got.

I am seriously thinking about the black body with two faces: one white, one silver as I think that will give us decor flexibility.

Good pic btb.

Silver

Silver will give you the most decor flexibility - it goes with everything and blends in

I also got silver for those reasons and the base of the Avant is Silver.

You got bitten by the australian B&O bug, it's ferocious.

Nice setup indeed.

You'll have to tell us what's the difference on/off both for movie and audio.

Give us a full review how you experience this combo. Never heard the BL19 in conjunction with the Avant only.

Michael,

I'm intrigued that you have a motorised stand yet you appear to have the TV parked across the corner of your room when switched off.

With all my previous and current TV's with stands I've always set the TV to turn parallel to the wall when not being viewed. Doesn't the new Avant give you an even better option for being parallel to the wall (and against it) when off, but swinging and coming more forward at its viewing angle?

Graham

EDIT

But just noticed that your speakers are down in the last pic, so maybe it's on audio?

Still interested to know whether you have tried different positions for the TV when off.

EDIT 2

Looking at previous pics you've got a lot of boxes hanging on the back of the TV? Does that rule out parallel parking???

" Believe nothing you read and only half of what you see, let your ears tell you the truth. "

Chris and BeoGreg, the difference is really noticeable.

I have 3 speaker groups:

1. TV which is just the avant speakers as FL, C and FR

2. Movie which is TV but with RL and RR as my BL3s via Wireless Receivers, so thats 5 speakers

3. Music, which is just my BL3s at the back but assigned as Front Right and Front Left

The BL19 is so very easy to pair with the Avant, it really just is plug and play.

When you turn the TV on the BL19 light goes green and then it goes off, which is different to my BL3s but being the subwoofer at the front of the room its great so that it does not distract you. Likewise when you power off the Avant the BL19 goes red for a few seconds then the light turns off, whereas on the BL3s they remain with the red light. So that's a really nice touch.

When in operation it really isn't boomy at all. I was worried that being so big it was going to be just this huge boom box and be so bassy i'd hate it. But it's not.

For music, I was playing Alicia Keys via my USB drive where i have all of my itunes media and i was surprised at how good it all sounded. I put my ear near the subwoofer and i couldnt hear anything and I didn't think it was working, however everything else sounded different. More rich, more clear and just better.

I did a trial of a BluRay rip of the Fifth Element, and i was amazed at how good it all was.

I'm about to watch Avatar BluRay on my PS4 after i finish watching something else... so that will be the big test.

I love the look of the subby.

When i collected it from the store today i also asked for one of the posters for a BV11 to see if one of thsoe will fit out in the front.... I think i feel sick lol.

To Vikinger, when the TV is off, it is in the same position as the audio position , that is the hypotenuse in the corner.

I do have the STB brackets with multiple devices hanging off the back and even if it was flush with the wall, then it would stick out from the wall. I prefer it across the wall when off, but I am going to replace one of the boxes at the back (upgrade) and will borrow the skates from the dealer to put the Avant in other positions.

I ideally would like to see what it is like against the wall when off, but if not, ... will just have to see.

I have 3 different stand positions:

1. Off which is in the corner

2. Movie which is over to the left toward my sliding door that goes to my laundry and the screen is a bit more flat with the wall

3. Music which is like the off position, toward my seat.

Exactly! :) I can imagine many people here would be very interested to get your impressions as Avant sounds already very impressive on its own. Now with an excellent sub... ...might be a very legitimate front part of a high quality surround system even without additional speakers.

I still remember the thread, where KMA talked about how a BL11 improved the sound of his new BV11.

I am sure, that the sound of the Avant will benefit massively from the BL19.

And, yes - just by adding some smaller rear speakers, you could even get a nice multichannel setup.

I - too - am looking forward to read about Michaels experiences with the sub.

Your set-up looks great with the BL19. Interesting that in your original post you said the room was too small for a BL19! It never takes us long to convince ourselves does it?

haha ... well kind of ;-)

It came about because I was watching a movie and at the start with the dolby surround sound promo, there was literally no bass and I thought, oh no, that has to change...

I went to go and look for the BL 11 because it was smaller and more discreet, however, the guy at the store said that really for movies you would be better off with a 19 because it's not strong enough.. I was um-ming and arghghg-ing over the 2 and being that the price difference wasn't that great,  and also I can put it anywhere, say next to the two chairs if i didn't like the look for felt it was too big .

But it's not boomy like the Bose Accoustimass is, nor my previous Sony, its just rich and warm.  In my set up it's a worthwhile addition. I did in speaker setup when the Avant gives you the signal of the speaker, when i was on the 19 i turned it up to 80 and i thought there was an earthquake lol. Id never watch anything that loud.

Last night before watching Avatar BluRay where the PQ on the Avant was OUTSTANDING , i was looking for a movie with the Dolby promo and i couldn't find one!

Hi, I am really happy to read what you write.

I am considering to add a bl19 as well to my setup: bv10-40, two bl12-3 as front and two bl12-2 ad rear. And what I want is just a rich and warm bass...

So today i have painted my cable box the same colour as the wall and pushed the subby back in the corner... i think it looks good

What i plan to do over time is that in the next 2 weeks i will order a new cable box which i will install , and then i may put the cable box on the wall behind and reconfigure the setup on my STB bracket and move the TV. This will then hide the cable box up on the wall and have the subby in the corner.

It may have been nice if B&O also offered a choice of cable sock from the black to either silver or bone. I'm happy with the black but would nice to see others.

On one of your BL19 pics, there is a "made in slovaquia" inscription. Is that for the wire or for the whole unit ?
