This really seems like a mixed bag product, especially to me. I would love to dump iTunes, it's buggy, still, and makes a number of things you really would like to do difficult or impossible. Cleaning up duplicates and merging albums that got split for example, a lot more difficult than it should be. Theoretically, the Moment is exactly what I would like, a seamless merging of my own music and online streaming libraries. However, it appears the device is flawed, and was released too early.
I am not stunned by the looks but not turned off by them either, though like others I think Jensen or Lewis might have done a much better job. I'm hoping that they get the bugs out and actually support the Moment, not orphaning it like the Beosound Encore, and that by the time I need to replace my current setup it will be working well, as I want the capability it promises. Not sure I would really want the frustration of being an early adopter for this.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.

I'm with you on this. I want to add a music component to my setup around Christmas time, and hopefully the Moment will be what it was originally promised to be by then. I'm still not sold on the design, but I don't dislike it either. Need to see it in the flesh first.
In the meantime, I'm really enjoying the HomeMedia source and functionality from the BV11. It is fast, does what it says on the box, even though album art is a mixed bag for me still. I've got twonkyserver pointed to my iTunes / Media / Music folder, and it works relatively well. Still wish BV11 had Apple Lossless support. I just don't want to transcode all those files. (too lazy). Maybe with a SW update... soon? Who knows.

Is the Moment released to early? That question depends on what kind of system you have. If you are a B&O customer with a link in the house, then you miss the multiroom capability for now and you could say it was released to early. Some customers will never intend to use it in a multiroom, if so, then this unit is already perfect for them.I realize not everybody has the knowledge and the patience to do it my way, it gives me reason to think future software updates won't bring any salvation to make this easier. By all, you can't compare the Moment with the BS 5 where you had a CD Ripping Device for easy adding new music to your harddisk. A good manual is needed with the Moment, in the mean time this manual from the BS5 (beoconnect) could give some new customers from the Moment a start or a basic answer how you could do it at best on your music server or Nas. I can only express strong approval or admiration for B&O, in designing this beautiful player, as you I was in search for that seamlessly merging of own and online music, and this is really the one. I maybe sound idiot but my wife was asking me some time ago, how on earth do I get to listen to music once you’re not here anymore? I will have to get all cd’s and other equipment from the dust and the attic to get some music. Starting up the music system I was running from the server was really to much for her, now she looks a lot happier with the simplicity the Moment gives her.
"Believe nothing you read and only half of what you see, let your ears tell you the truth."
Slightly off-topic but whether it should be or not be is another question is the fact that I have (or used to have) 2 Beosound 5's. One travelled around the world from job to job in my overseas home, the other stayed at my main home.
The Machine at home was organized similar to your graphic below.
Folder: Artist Name
Subfolder1 Artist Name - Album Name 1
Subfolder2 Artist Name - Album Name 2 etc...
As a set of files in Explorer
It did and still does work splendidly for my needs, allowing very quick selection of music in a +500 Album library.
The second BS5/BM5 I purchased was a used unit. The Dealer never wiped the drive and it was clear to me why the previous Owner was frustrated and disappointed with the device. Files were everywhere, odd tracks here, there everywhere, album art not updated etc...and no file structure or homogenous file formatting. (No file structure to suit my particular needs).
A quick wipe and dump of all my original music files and it is now as good as new and functions flawlessly (especially with a 1TB Velociraptor HDD which is almost as quick as a 1TB SSD without the XP drawbacks.
Rightly or Wrongly, whether you should or should not, whether B&O should or should not, appropriately storing your music does make a whole heap of difference when it comes to what you get out of some of these devices.

Chris: Jeff:Theoretically, the Moment is exactly what I would like, a seamless merging of my own music and online streaming libraries. However, it appears the device is flawed, and was released too early. Jeff, I will go with you at 50% in the above quote. I'm running it now for a month and flawlessly for the last 14 days, but that only took place after I cleaned that horrible iTunes library. I was to thrilled, not well informed at first. My dealer had the same knowledge as I had, none... And I started blindly in setting-up the Moment with my existing iTunes library on my server. I suppose that setting up the Moment in connection with a existing BM5 will be a lot easier. After numerous attempts and resets I started with a new directory structure classified in music genres and re-ripped all my Apple Lossless files finally to the Flac open codec. As you now, it is a tremendous work to find all albums shattered in pieces on a large iTunes library, but it is worth the effort. As a serious music collector, I had once a fine classified library of vinyl & cd’s on the wall, now its finally coming back step by step into a same correct directory structure on my server. @ Chris & Mr. Ten Percent:
Thank you very much for the detailed explanation and your experiences! It certainly renews a bit of my faith in this device. There's probably only so much you can do as a device programmer to make up for every oddball storage and metadata approach you might find on a music server disk. That makes sense, so I'm hoping most of the issues are just that and not more basic to the code. You are so right that iTunes can automatically make a complete mess out of a storage scheme. I just spent days trying to straighten mine out.
When I do replace what I have I will want to somehow keep my ML setups, so it's probably good I won't be in the market for a Moment for a while now. Until my current system goes tango uniform for good.
Here's another question, how do you control things like loudness, bass, treble, balance with the Moment?
You can adjust it in settings menu on the Moment.
Jeff: Here's another question, how do you control things like loudness, bass, treble, balance with the Moment?
Indeed, If you remove the socket cover on the back of the hub (SoundHeart) for access to the settings menu. You will find 'Sound' in there, if you open this you get a submenu 'Loudspeakers', in this menu you can change Loudness, Bass, Treble, Balance and also a Frequency Tilt option.
I copied my iTunes subfolder which contains only the music to a seperate folder on my QNAP NAS. I switched on the DLNA service and pointed the Moment to this service. It was an easy setup.
But I don't see all of my music which should be available. I have a mix of music from amazon which is integrated in iTunes and music I bought directly in iTunes and a lot of CDs also available in iTunes. I think it is only the music available I bought directly in iTunes but not sure at the moment. I have to find out. Very strange because I copied the files and use the DLNA service.

@Chris => I am 100 % with you
Digital music needs a minimum of structure and data in order to be correctly used by any Hardware + Software for playing them.
Unfortunatly Itune is maybe the worth tool for achieving that simply because you are locked into the apple world (no Flac, automatic tagging...)
To me the key things are 1) choose an "open codec" => FLAC is among the good choices
2) Organise your audio files into folders :Artist => Album
3) Tag each song with at least the basic METADATA (Genre, Album, Artist, Track Number, Track name, album cover ...) but you can also add many more meta data for much more flexibility in terms of selection
(Rating, Bit Depth, sample rate, composer, author, Conductor, date, country, Disc Number, Instruments, Lyrics, Language, producer, year , ....)
Of course this is a tremendous work, but once it is correctly set you'll get the benefit with any system
....or let a streaming service (like Deezer) do the job for you.
I see no need to fiddle much with 'tagging and coverpics' anymore.
And I can concentrate on the few files/ripped cd's, that I don't find on music services.
Even if I have been a iOS/Mac-user for some years now, I never trusted iTunes
I have (and have had) all my music as FLAC files, and have been using DLNA servers to organize it for many years.
I have spend way too much time 'ripping, tagging and organizing'......
Now - with the new music services (especially after they have gone lossless) - I spend my time enjoying the music instead.

Sometimes you need only a little hint...
I searched for my favourite CDs in Deezer, added them to my Deezer favourites and they appear in the Moment in Artists. This is working for me. There are some which are not available on Deezer. These are the only ones I have to add with DLNA service.
Despite all criticism bought a Moment yesterday. Installation didn't go easy. When trying to copy my iTunes library to a Synology DS214+ the system crashed two times. After using a new NAS it worked. Then it took really a long time (8 hours plus) before I could use the library on the Moment. Most art work is still missing on the Moment while it it showing on the Beo Music app. Does anyone know how long it should take or takes for the Moment to gather all artists pictures and load all album covers?

Patience, it takes time. Read the pdf I passed to BeoCare about the Moment, could be of help to you also.
Thanks Chris. How much time would you expect for approx 38 gig of music? Also, some artist pics appeared and now have disappeared.. And where do I find that pdf? Apologies, first time visitor to this website/forum.

Just look beneath my name, there you find it: 'Moment.pdf'
Thanks, got it. Do you know where Moment is getting the artist pics from? Album covers seem installed now although I have not checked them all. However, since the means starts from Artists rather than Albums it would be nice to see pictures with the Artist's names. Is there anything I can do to expedite that process?
Best, Joost
I actually did rip all of my albums in Flac and used Yate to check all metadata and bring the correct album covers in to the files.
Welcome to the forum also, ask anything we will be of help as much we can.
Thanks. My album covers are almost all there, presumably directly from the ITunes library. The artists pics in the main menu of the Moment are missing though, except for those artists whose songs are in there through Deezer. So the artists from my own music on my NAS are somehow not being retrieved by the Moment. My guess is these pictures come from somewhere else. Does anyone know where the artists pics are coming from, how long the retrieval process should more or less take and whether this can somehow be expedited?

Aussie Michael: I think it may be getting them from gracenote. Even with my Sony phone there is an option to download photos etc from gracenote

Correct. They get it from Gracenote. That a pitty since a lot of local artists are missing.
Livingroom: BL3, BL11, BV11-46 Kitchen: Beosound 1 GVA, Beocom 2 Bathroom: M3 Homeoffice: M3, Beocom 2 Library: Beosound Emerge, Beocom 6000 Bedroom: M5, Essence remote Travel: Beoplay E8 2.0, Beoplay EQ, Beoplay Earset
How much time should it take the Moment upon first instalment to retrieve artist pics for approx 38G of music and can I somehow expedite?
Also, I have seen artist pics come and go on the Moment strangely enough. Who can help?
Further to my previous post, all album covers are visible in the BO Music App but not in the Moment (yet?)..
Hiort:Correct. They get it from Gracenote. That a pitty since a lot of local artists are missing.
What Michael and Hiort mentioned is absolutely correct, therefore add them yourself to your albums. I have given you this tip in an earlier response.
Only then it will be the correct album pic, if you don't Gracenote chooses one for you. Not always the good one (different publisher, other release,...) You will see them also appear fast on both the Jukebox & BeoMusic app.
Thanks. I know but you are talking about album covers whilst I am talking about Artist Pictures. In the main menu you can click on "Artists". If you do that, I think you should see pictures/photographs of Artists, not necessarily the same pictures as te album cover. Here my Moment goes wrong. Only the artists that are also in my Deezer playlists/favourites are shown and the others are just a grey square, very ugly.
The strange thing is that this morning there were a few additional pictures of artists but these are gone now again.
Who can help out with this problem?
BeoNut since '75
Lucky me. What do you recommend? Reset, full or only database? There are still portraits popping up but it goes so slowly. Reference: approx 10 per 12 hours.

Thanks Hiort. How long should it take the Moment to gather the Artist Portraits in your experience? Perhaps I am just being impatient..

Using a Synology NAS ds214+ supplied by my local B&O dealer, and the media player of Synology (installed by dealer). Album art does not really seem to be the problem but for low bit pictures put in my iTunes library myself. It's the Artist Portraits in the main menu of the Moment that do not show. They are almost all just grey squares whilst if you click on them you get into the submenu showing albums and their art. It's has been working now 24 hours and I think I have 10 out of 300 artist portraits. Wondering wether I should reset the Moment.

Interesting. I don't have that problem. The album covers are mostly ok. It's the artist portraits that do not load. Example: Artist Carpenters shows a grey square. If I click, then I see their albums in full colour. As an amateur I'm saying that the synch between gracenote and the Moment is not working ok. Any else any ideas?

Again, as I told before its very important to get the metadata correct.
You will find two artists portraits if you have two albums with as an example:
- One album with Count Basie as artist name
- One album with Count Basie & Orchestra as artist name.
Try to name the albums in the metadata as Count Basie, then you will find one artist window with the name Count Basie if you view in the Jukebox.
If there is a artist portrait that won't load, it could be that Gracenote has no picture of the artist with that name, an example:
- Count Basie & Orchestra & Celine Dion
Gracenote will search after this artist picture with that name, but will not find it because there is simply no picture of Count Basie & Orchestra & Celine Dion. Keep the artist name in your files so short and natural as possible, maybe Gracenote find a picture in its database. Also Gracenote has NOT all artist pictures, you just won't get a picture of Obama who made 20 years ago one lonely record for his mom. Hope you understand!
Thank you. I understand this but at present also Artists Portraits like ABBA are missing so although the metadata might add to the problem, there is likely also another problem.
Checking and aligning metadata in iTunes does seem to resolve a lot of problems. I still don't have all Artist Portraits but a whole lot more than before I resolved small inconsistencies in the metadata of my albums/tracks in my iTunes library. Thanks to all for your help (and patience)!
