We have ordered at 1am a 32GB new generation Apple TV. That's the one with Siri support.

Deliver is 3 to 5 business days so I hope to give it a proper PUC install on our BV8-40 this weekend ... and review.

Unboxing photos are probably inappropriate Smile however I might include a boring in situ view of my cable nest ...

Congrats on the order. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Re: the PUC install, obviously B&O can't accommodate Siri or touchpad, accelerometer, etc remote functionality into a PUC, with that in mind, would the PUC actually change beyond the direction / menu / play buttons? Edit: Just saw that there is a new "Home" button as well on the remote.

I'm eagerly waiting to see what developers have in store. Especially if/when PLEX is finally officially available on ATV. Until now, one had to jailbreak ATV for PLEX functionality.

I too am keen to revisit PLEX.

I gave up jail breaking once it became to complex and still remained unstable.

Too much pain for too little gain.

I am hoping that the combination of Siri and the Beo 4 PUC will have have a reasonable WAF rating Unsure

I gave up in frustration because somehow, for reasons I could't figure out, jailbreaking never worked for me. I got to the later steps, where it would just fail. I agree: too much pain for so little gain. Especially when updates of SW would, in some cases, undo the jailbreaks!

Mrs pussycat can have the Siri-mote, as long as I am in charge of the BV.

So I'll go for the Beo-mote - the one with the red dot on it 😻

I got my ordered, too. I think that the Siri integration is a step in the direction of the future of remote control. I expect the Apple Watch will soon be a source of Siri control as well. As I understand, B&O has no current plans to upgrade the BLGW for HomeKit (which would require a special chip and some heavy-duty encryption). However, just think of the potential of using Siri to call up music for our B&O systems and to control our BeoVisions using voice control. Still, HomeKit is going though some initial pains sorting through the bugs. You can read about my experience with the new Hue HomeKit bridge in the Home Automation forum.

good news for us in the UK, the BBC confirmed their iPlayer app will be shortly coming to the new ATV

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.

I think the apps thing is going to be as popular as it is on iPhones & iPads. Whilst the BBC is of zero interest to me, one of my surfing channels has announced today that it will have its app available on the ATV platform.  Interesting times for the broadband generation. :)

Thanks Elephant.

It's huge compared to the 3 (much higher). Maybe it can go in the back of BV11 but without the plastic cover of the tv.

I heard that it has Bluetooth 4.0 so you can listen with Bluetooth headphones - wonder if that also means you can connect to multiple speakers and have a simple multiroom system if you don't have an essence/moment multiroom solution? be interested to know - also if the remote app is different and now includes the internet radio stations

Also - does the voice control also access your music?

1/ so far it seems the redirection of speakers is the same as the old ATV ie one target only; however as I have an Essence I targeted that and it worked - but probably via wireless

2/ voice control of Apple Music (as per Eddy Cue's comments today) coming later

Can you control the new ATV with Beo4 via PUC in the same way like the old ATV? Or will an updated PUC be needed to work with the new ATV?

The new Apple remote will then be needed only for using Siri?

Great pix Mr Elephant! Thank you :)

Michael, are you getting one for your Avant?  A 4K one would be nice wouldn't it! Maybe next year.

P.S. Michael try and find a 4K copy of the new skateboarding film 'WE ARE BLOOD'. It's been shot in 6K and 4K using RED cameras. The filming, editing and soundtrack are incredible. Sound wise, it was a partnership with Dolby Atmos.  I believe that VIMEO will be selling the 4K download of it very soon. There's also another site that streams 4K movies, but they've done a deal to only offer it for Samsung 4K TVs :(

Oh, that sounds dangerous for my wallet. ATV 4 obeying PUC commands by a Beo 4 looks like a possibility in my setup.

Is the Plex app available in the App Store? Does it work well? Does it do subtitles?

Hi Rob!

It's coming, but so far Apple has had some issues with what Plex submitted so it was rejected. But it's back in review again and they seem quite confident it'll pass this time.

I wonder, when the mystery of the two different versions (32/64GB) of the new ATV will be solved.

Why two? As far as I know you won't be able to store anything on the device other than the OS and the apps - which are quite small because they draw their content online.

Hi MM,

From the various reports on MacRumors it's because some apps can expand up to 1GB each when open. I guess if you end up downloading 100+ apps, a 64GB will be required.

Having learnt the hard way with IT, Apple etc, I always go for the large storage option now.

'Expand up to 1GB'....then you would have to have several apps open/running, before you need more than 32GB.

I'm still not quite convinced ;-)

MM & Paul

There is even a Storage management page which tells you the size of Apps.

So MM is right in that YouTube is less than 1MB, but each of my sons' Apps was ~60MB.

There is great article (for programmers) on the new memory management paradigm brought about by tvOS.

I also believe that like previous generations content will be cached - maybe even multiple downloads ... Which would be few gig at a time.

Button details - not all will map to an older Beo4 PUC ... and new tvOS has changes in long button / context menus

And the volume buttons don't work on my BV8's HDMI (of course, too old)
