Saw this Beogram 7000 from someone with good ratings but is so very cheap. Limited photos. No cartridge. There must be something I'm missing! I would have expected it to fetch £300 or more but only £50...that can't be right. What do you think? Should I go for it or is there something amiss? Ebay can induce suspiciousness not often seen in one on a day to day basis.

Yep, with 4 days to go, and as with most things on ebay, it's likely that 90% of the bidding will occur within the last few minutes of the auction.

As leosgonewild says, I think this turntable is gonna land on +/- 300€.
Worth it? Well, it is quite expensive since what I can see, it is a MMC-4 cartridge. See if you can get the BeoGram 6500. Same machine but often is set in a lower price. And look for a MMC-2 or 1 cartridge.

What cartridges are compatible with this and where can I buy them please?
The cartridges that are compatible are the MMC cartridges. MMC1-MMC5. The MMC1 is very rare and good. The most common one is the MMC4.

I would suggest looking on eBay.
