Think of NL as the modern ML - and of WiSA as wireless PowerLink (WPL)

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Millemissen: Think of NL as the modern ML - and of WiSA as wireless PowerLink (WPL) MM
I had never set up a multi-room with ML. However, I thought it was possible via ML to have a pair of BL in a separate room (e.g., play music from a BV7 to a pair of speakers in room A and also in room B. That's what I am missing now as BLs do not support NL unless I buy an Essence for each room that I would like to add. Or do I glorify the old days and this was not possible via ML either?

the Essence in your example is the active speakerkit (or you could use the BL NL/ML converter as Beolink Active). The use of the Essence has advantages. It is a complete system which can be used locally but can be "joined" by other NL devices in other rooms
steve1977:Or do I glorify the old days and this was not possible via ML either?
With ML you could (and still can) distribute sound from a central Audio or Video master to other (Slave/Link) rooms.
These rooms can participate or not - only one source at the time can be distributed.
A set of BL's isn't enough, though - you need (along with the ML-cabling) an Active Link box.
Today with NL you can distribute different sources (at rhe same time) to and from the NL devices.
Think of an Essence as an Active Link box with its own sources built-in from which you also can distribute sound to other NL components.
There is no Master and Slave in a NL setup like with the ML structure - this makes NL (and NL products) far more flexible than the old ML ( and ML products).

Thanks for your replies, this all makes sense.
It is a pity that the Essence cannot be easily connected to BV7 as it lacks ML. I have seen the work-around buying an expensive Almando system or using line-in, but no longer having the chance to use speakers without using the Beo4.
I assume it is less likely that we will see ML with an MK3 of the Essence?
paolomariano:Hi! Don't be offended, but don't you all think you are off topic?!

You're right, of course - and wrong too.
This is about a/the new BeoSound.
Since we don't know much, there is not much to say/write about.
A discussion about what 'people' expect from a modern BS or explaining the differences between ML and NL can't do any harm imo.
P.S. If you have any news about the coming BeoSounds, feel free to interrupt ;-)

BeoNut since '75
steve1977:but cannot be controlled by the essence knob (or other join button) and has no integrated sound system.
the NL/ML converter is the in-between the old world (ML) and the new world (NL).
f.e. I have two NL/ML converters to integrate a BS3000 and a BS9000 in a complete NL system (several components).
The opposite is also possible: integrate a ML tv-set with the new NL audio (Moment, Essence mkII, A6, A9, the new ones)
there is a IR-eye available for the NL/ML converter with a join button
steve1977:thanks. possible to connect essence knob via IR eye or Bluetooth? or just for beo4?
If you mean the converter?
The ir-eye is for Beo4/BeoremoteOne - no control there via bluetooth/Essence-knob.
And Join-in via touching the ir-eye, of course.
Thanks. What do you mean by "touching the IR eye"?
The eye has a 'join-button' - have a look in this guide:
http://www.bang-olufsen.com/da/customer-service/product-support/accessories/beolink/beolink-converter
Wow, now I got it. The IR eye is basically the the equivalent of the Essence knob. Not as nice and wired, but basically same functionality.
Does anyone the cable length when buying at B&O? Assume best to buy directly from a dealer incl. cable, eye and wall holder?
Have a look at the pic here:

Steve at Sounds Heavenly might also be able to provide the cable lenght you would wish for.

Thanks. Not fully clear to me from the photo, but it appears that all is included and even states a 10m cable is included (which is enough for my purpose). Let me go and see my dealer on Monday. This is really great news!
Assume "join" and "play" can be programmed through the app what is preferred source to play and also what other device to join (e.g., device 1 plays source a and device 2 plays source b).

Never ass=u+me.
Mmh, so this will not work? So. how does "play" decides what source to play and "join decides what other device to join?

Do we have fresh news about these new Beosound 1 and 2? The TVs have been shown... Any leaked photos of the sound systems?

Hi Millemissen,
Sorry for the slow reply, yes I can build this cable in any length required:-
