Belgian style Dubbel and Trippel for tonight while I cook some scallops. (Satisfied that shellfish craving) Both very good!

No matter the beers. What about the scallops???

Surprise

I should have taken a picture!  Sorry, I will next time.  They were pan seared with some Brussels sprouts and Quinoa.  Delicious!

In French, there's a different name for the bay scallops (pétoncle = pecten) and for the great or king or sea scallops(coquille Saint-Jacques = pecten maximus). The last one being the one related to the Camino de Santiago - way to St James in Spain.

French people swears only by coquille Saint-Jacques (preferably from Saint-Brieuc, North Britanny) !

Nowadays, we find only the white part of the scallops (called "noix de Saint-Jacques"), and not anymore the complete edible part (noix + corail), except if you ask your fishmonger to keep them (fashion?)

https://www.reluctantgourmet.com/all-about-scallops/

NB: the word scallop sounds like escalope in French, which means cutlet !

Ah yes. Choice can be a curse as well as a blessing. I have a similar problem with the Belgian beer fridge in a bar near me. So we decided to start at the top left and work our way through the selection over time. We are half way through roughly. Clearly it requires the beers to be kept in their regular positions. But hey, if they get mixed up what’s the worst that can happen?

I had the same problem in a Belgium restaurant that I used to frequent.

I kept getting lost in their menu of beers.

So the next month I would have to start all over again 🙄

Grabbed a cold Summit EPA from the ice bar. The picture of dribbled beer ice crystals from my beard didn’t turnout. Indifferent

Arrived early to secure our table outside in the shade ... temp is 38C !

I am having a small $7 stout in the foreground ... not one of the “adventurous” ones on the bottom of the (electronicSad) menu ... ranging from $20 to $70 a bottle !

The Brewdog paradox imperial stout is a very mighty ale indeed at 15%. Absolutely gorgeous but definitely one for sipping!

Brewdog are going to be opening a brewery in Brisbane so you should be getting more of their beers 🍺🍺🍺🍺

Frog beer

Tha... WACK!

World’s best Black IPA (at least, it’s written on the bottle)

Quite bitter, smell coffee and red fruits

A little bit of cocoa taste

Nice

Does the Islay suggest a smokey/peaty flavor?

I like that’s considered a superhero beer.

Cultural question, what is the connection between things that are French and frogs? I’ve seen this multiple times. Maybe it is obvious to the rest of the world but the only answer I’ve ever found is that French people eat frogs but so do lots of people in the southern USA. Confused

But the Louisiana is named after a French king ?

And wasn’t some parts initially French colonies ?

As well as Spanish !

And with due respect to Christophe and other forum members a local talk back radio doesn’t refer to the French 🇫🇷 as frogs 🐸 but rather “cheese eating surrender monkeys”. But that’s Aussies for you ... no respect for tradition, history, art, fashion, gastronomy, or wines”.

There, now I have insulted two nationalities 😟

It’s matured for six months in whiskey barrels which explains the smoky/peaty flavours.

Hi CB:

Yes, and yes.  The brewer recommends aging in the bottle.  The smoke flavor changes considerably over the years, as does the beer as a whole.
