I can use a M5 in my B&O multiroom setup - a Play:1 would be useless there.
Two different approaches to multiroom audio.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Millemissen: I can use a M5 in my B&O multiroom setup - a Play:1 would be useless there.
Wrong — you take a Beosound 2. 😉 I'm still left-out with apple music. #applesfault
That'll be your choice, then - if your priority is Apple Music.

So it is, two different approaches.
L1NO: Many proffesional brackets and systems are in place for the sonos speakers. B&O should update their app (outdated and missing features) and the price will be nowhere-near the play:1.

Just as there are two different kind of customers for a multroom install. You will never get a professional for a multiroom install going for Sonos if the intention is to provide his clients with Bang & Olufsen.
I have knowledge of a hotel who wants his clients to have only the most exclusive, and that counts not only for the food. And that's the kind of clients B&O targets.
I find it very positive for B&O, not planning to concur Sonos at this price segment and want to keep their reputation.

Chris:I have knowledge of a hotel who wants his clients to have only the most exclusive, and that counts not only for the food. And that's the kind of clients B&O targets.
There are many more than just two 'kind' of multi-room customers. I've stayed in a few hotels of which the rooms where equipped with BV7's and BL8002 in common area's. In my opninion; the M5 is not 'the most exclusive' as B&O have better systems in place for this and my experience is that they would not choose the 'play' brand.
Even how-much B&O want us to believe this with there launch-video — can't see this usage with a M5. (Thing they exaggerate the audio/volume/multi-tweeter qualities)
Even the most currently-trendy hotels have better systems in place and the exclusive hotels work with much better products. Even if they choose B&O.
To add: many hotels use sonos in lobbies, gas-stations and shops are filled with them and even lounges or fancy bathhouses and clincs use them. (Holland, UK)
They are sturdy, have great third-part support and have a better digital-support. They are known by the public and certainly don't cost too much. They have many many more 'inputs'.
They don't sound as good as B&O equiv. but B&O is not offering this — yet.
@L1NO
Why do you keep telling (us) this?
I am (and others are) looking for a speaker system, that can be used within a B&O multiroom setup.
The M5 might in some cases be that speaker.
I am not looking for a Sonos speaker!
Let Sonos do their thing - and let B&O show us, how they define multiroom audio.
If I would want to add the 'Sonos experience' to my setup, I would pick a Sonos Connect and connect that to a line-in on one of my NL-multiroom products....
....in order to have access to it from anywhere in the setup.
Millemissen:I am not looking for a Sonos speaker!
Me neither. I'm only referring to some responses here that this can/should be used in the 'proffesional-public area' of which B&O has to to do (even ahs) much better to enter this market. The M5 could be a great-little (if it is little) speaker for homes — but that was not the discussion.
Livingroom: BL3, BL11, BV11-46 Kitchen: Beosound 1 GVA, Beocom 2 Bathroom: M3 Homeoffice: M3, Beocom 2 Library: Beosound Emerge, Beocom 6000 Bedroom: M5, Essence remote Travel: Beoplay E8 2.0, Beoplay EQ, Beoplay Earset

So - we do agree!
I am sure, that B&O is not aiming at a 'profesional-public area' with this (M5) speaker system - at least not in the way, that Sonos does.
P.S. It is (!) a small speaker.
So you really don't see it as a competitor for use in a professional area. You say it is, was and will stay the S brand and no one else.
Well actually I don't have a bar, hotel lobby, hairdresser's saloon or whatever, but if so I would definitely give the B&O dealer a change to fill it with a sound producing system. The medium price, the compact look and proud background of this speaker would fit perfectly.
I don't think that Hotels, especially luxury hotels will buy Beoplay products that doesn't seem to have real customer support after the warranty wents out... Bang & Olufsen has a LOT to learn and improve:- Ergonomics- Reliability- Customer support- SoftwareCan you imagine a customer at the hotel lobby frighetened and angry because some wireless Beolab speakers had started their horror digital noise theater show at 2am in the morning? You bet that the hotel will sort out B&O as fast as possible if this happens a few times randomly.btw: I guess that a softwareerror like this on a Beolab 90 will cause serious harm to your ears!I don't see enough progress at Bang & Olufsen... they need fantastic people like Geoff Martin in EVERY department! For the kitchen I think the Beosound 1 is just great as it blends nice into the "kitchen tools environment" and if the aluminium is the same quality as previous B&O equipment, I wouldn't fear it to be scratched too easy.I have only three little issues with the Beosound 1:- 1.) The standby LED should be red... like on all Bang & Olufsen products. That wouldn't distract at night and is a "logical" color. I don't know and have any device that shows a white Light when it's OFF or in standby mode. ;)
- 2.) It should have an additional 3,5mm Stereo input jack - an opportunity they missed on the Beosound 3 a few years ago... and I thought they learn from their mistakes.- 3.) When do we get other colors?

We're launching a brand new website aimed at travel and have spent quite a bit of time in various hotels (albeit for one night!), such as various hotels across Miami South Beach, as an example.
It's very rare to see B&O equipment in any luxury hotel. The only time I've seen any B&O equipment, in the room, was in a 5-star hotel on the Amalfi Coast, Italy.
Talking of annoying LEDs in rooms, a few hotels now are using Android smart devices next to your bed for contacting reception and so on. These are nearly "always on" and really annoying on an night. I have to turn them face down.

I remember staying in a rather expensive Parisian hotel in the late nineties and promising myself I'd one day own the same powered wall mounted MX tv as I had in the hotel room.

I fully understand you and that is exactly the magic I love(d) in Bang & Olufsen... and they seem to have lost it a few years ago...Beosound 3000 was THE attraction at one of last birthdays. I guess the poor sliding doors had to open 50 times because every kid tried to approach it several times, waved their hands etc. ... You bet that they have a very positive feeling about that cool B&O stuff and had a lot of fun. :)
Does it have any additional, unannouced features or is that it, another wireless multiroom speaker arriving just as others are moving on with Alexa, Google Home etc. ( e.g. I read today that Lenovo are releasing an Alexa based device with Harmon Kardon audio Internals).
I feel with recent product releases as though the company has adopted the shotgun marketing strategy - lets make as many versions of as many things as we can and hopefully some of them might sell, those that don't we can quietly abandon and forget along with those that may have bought them.
Ban boring signatures!
Beolab 50, Beolab 8000 x 2, Beolab 4000 x 2, BeoSound Core, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound Century, BeoLit 15, BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay P2, BeoPlay H9 3rd Gen, BeoPlay H6, EarSet 3i, BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40, BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)
Puncher, I agree with your evaluation of B&O product development and marketing lately. I don't see evidence of a coordinated attack on the market, an overriding strategy to stake out territory as well thought out as, say, Sonus for example. I think it's a throw things on the wall and see what sticks indeed, which is very inefficient, especially as they have multiple products competing with themselves, too many products that essentially do the same thing.
We can only hope they manage to develop a focus on the market that works.
Jeff
I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.

Or reduce the price to clear stock (think A6) when you realise they aren't shifting as you expected.
But you are right Puncher. How many headphones and portable speakers does B&O require? A1, A2, BS1, Beolit 15, M5 etc.
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
Chris Townsend:Be careful with Alexa. Imagine it doing this at a party https://youtu.be/r5p0gqCIEa8

- a rather fitting demonstration of what really quite good software is capable of even without the assistance of those demonstratably less able!

B&O usually don't do as 'the others' do, just because they do it!
Personally I would not want Alexa (or any of the others) in my home - must it be?
Not long ago people wished for a smaller NL-multiroom device.
There it is....
....and then that is one too many.
Let us be happy, that we have different speaker systems to choose amongst - we don't have to buy all of them.
That goes for the headphones as well - I am fine with a wired version, my neighbour wants a wireless.
And I wouldn't want to stick small lumps into my ears - others can live without them.....
yep, this is an interesting one.....agree on the one hand that B&O seem to perhaps trying to over-milk the Play brand, to some of us at least....that said, voice assistant enabled speakers i think i relatively unproven i think........yes plenty of tech types have embraced it, especially as smartphone innovation has stalled in recent years, but its still very far from clear that (a) voice recognition is good enough yet for wide adoption, and (b) unclear as well whether people generally want to talk to technology, especially if it is also listening to you in your home.........
B&O may go down this road eventually, but i'd give it at least 2 years......
Millemissen:Personally I would not want Alexa (or any of the others) in my home - must it be?
Agreed. I am not really that interested in these Alexa type products. It's like Siri on the iPhone and MacBook Air, I never use it. I suppose it might become mainstream at some later point in time but developments at this stage are more of a gimmick offering a bit of fun for a few minutes but no real practical use - for me anyway. Simon.
B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

Still 5 hour to go for the 'official' launch ;-)))
You shouldn't believe all that you read ;-))))
From the above:
'The Beeplay M5' ---- yet another new product ;-)
'Just touch the top of anodized aluminum material to operate volume, connection, and other functions.' ---- interesting ;-))
'wireless streaming services such as sporty pie, dessert and internet radio tune delivery' ----- what do you think about that ;-)))
Looking forward to the Sporty Pie and Dessert, making me hungry already!

After all some have called it 'a cookie box' already.
Yes, I used Google Translate.
Seems to be an official press release though.
More pics appeared, still nothing special sadly.

I think this is cool.
It might not be all singing all dancing but every brand needs fast moving good margin products to carry the slower moving lines and generate revenue.
I think its cool, a simple speaker that can be plonked in the kitchen or moved to the garden etc and multiroom is a must.
Interested to learn the price and if it has batteries or just mains powered etc

Fair enough.
The reason I posted originally is that Mrs.P. is in the market for a small compact CD/Radio for the kitchen (she bakes and decorates a lot of cakes)!. I explain the Google Home speaker to her in that she can request music directly, or pull up recipes, youtube demos to be sent to the TV etc., all whilst up to her elbows in Butter Cream - and, even as a committed Technophobe, she would have rushed out and bought one on the spot, (had they been available in the UK and they work as advertised).
What she specifically didn't want to do was have to Faff around with a phone or a tablet to do any of it!

Seems that someone is spoiling the game for B&O Play.
Still more than 3 hours untill the official launch.

No mention of Essence and Moment?
The media center is full of nice pictures of the M5!
It is currently all over my Facebook feed! A very fancy advert.
