I installed CT6.00 on my Windows 7 64-bit just to see the changes from CT5.12. I'm wondering why B&O would have made a new menu especially for the Beo5 in the CT, if the Beo5 isn't supported?

Take a look:

I'm reffering to the information in these treads:

#1

#2

I just want to make sure, that I won't mess up my Beo5 by trying to use it with CT6.00.

Just a little clarification about 64 bit,

  • The Version 6.0 and above Configuration Tool can be installed and update a Beo6 on 64 bit Windows operating system.
  • The Version 6.0 and above Configuration Tool can be installed on a Windows 32 bit operating system and fully supports the Beo5, BUT not 64 bit because there is no 64 bit USB receiver in the Beo5 firmware. If you do connect a Beo5 to a Windows 64 bit system, the driver for Beo5 will fail to be installed.
  • When the Beo6 has been upgraded with the new software, it can no longer be configured in a version 5 or older version of the Configuration Tool.

Thanks Keith! Sad, that the 64 bit support is missing with Beo5, but at least I will still be able to use CT6.00.

Keith, would appreciate your expert assistance.

I have CT 6.0 installed on a Windows7 64 bit Hp. Have successfully built and saved my Beo6 configuration within the CT. No errors in completing either the pc install or the subsequent "validation/serialization" on the CT.

When I get to the final step "upload" it is whited/greyed out.

Did a hard reset and full recharge of the Beo6. The finalization button is still inactive.

CT 6.0 does recognize the remote. The serial number is present in the upper left of the panel;

Do you have any advise on How can I get this button to become active?

Thank you

joe

If the "Download is greyed out, then the Beo6 is not dedected normally because the USB driver is not loaded or it failed to load correctly

The fact that the Configuration Tool recognises the serial number just means the Configuration Tool has previous seen this Beo6 perhaps from a previous version loaded.

With the Beo6 connected to the USB port go into "Device Manager" in Windows.

To do this press START then click CONTROL PANEL then click SYSTEM AND SECURITY

Under the heading SYSTEM you will see a link called DEVICE MANAGER click on this and a new window will open with the configuration of your PC

In the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" section should be the Beo6, if it has a ! mark next to it or it ia marked as "Unknown" then the driver is not loaded and you will need to load it manually.

Thanks for the reply. Appreciate it.

I went into Device Manager and I had a "?"

not a "!" Next to a listed  "Beo5".

Im not sure why my Beo6 is being detected as a Beo5?

Does it make any difference?

The default driver was blank but is now manually installed. The default file found by Windows7 is a 32bit file: Beo5Usb.sys.

Is there a Beo6usb.sys file available for 64bit?

or can I proceed to use the 32 bit file for the Beo5?

Thanks

joe

Keith - supplemental info

I have the original box the remote came in and it clearly indicates a Beo6 (purchased 2 months ago). Also the serial number on the box matches the one displayed on the screen of the unit.

Current version of CT is reconfirmed 6.0

my W7 is fully updated.

Initially before updating I could see "Beo5". Now I can only see "unknown device". Further, it's listing has now been moved from "Other Devices"  by the system to "Remote Control Devices" within Device Manager. But There is an error code displaying that the 32 bit driver is not intended for this 64 bit platform. If I try to update the 32 bit I get a message that there are no updates. here are the details of the installed driver:

4/24/2012

version 1.1.10.0

I have restarted the CT (but not the PC) and reopend CT with the new 32 bit Beo5 driver installed but the "upload" button is still whited out.

Can you please send me a link the correct Beo6 driver? I have searched this site and the web in general and cannot find a Beo6USB.sys file.

thanks and regards

Joe

Uninstall and reinstall the program.

Mine did this to me the first time.

Make sure you uninstall any previous versions as well.

thanks for the suggestion

Yesterday I tried a fresh install on a completely different W7 computer that previously had never had CT on it.

The result was unfortunately the same as the first computer: identifies the remote as a Beo5 (not a Beo6), shows no driver. a manual update of the driver results in an error message that the driver automatically found by Windows is not compatible (system32 not 64 bit). The driver fails to install. Hence the greyed out finalization load button.

The rest of the CT appears to work fine. Im just wondering if there is something wrong with the Ver 6.0 I downloaded since it has now behaved exactly the same way on two different computers.

Hope Keith has a further troubleshooting idea.....

SOLUTION

I have a Beo6 which was delivered with 2.11 firmware in September 2012. CT Ver 6.0 would not upload the final configuration to my Beo6.

For others with the same problem here is what worked

1/ forget about what people are telling you about being able to use 64 bit systems and or/Windows 7. They won't work with a Beo6 loaded with 2.11. You must find an old 32 bit system. Install the CT on that old machine.

2/ when you first connect the Beo6 the system will incorrectly identify it as a Beo5. That is ok. It is running version 2.11 of the remote firmware so that version thinks it is a Beo5. Accept installation of the Beo5 driver.

3/ then the CT will install an upgrade to the Beo6. Once the upgrade from 2.11 to 3.00a is complete the pc will correctly identify the remote as a Beo6 and ask you to accept the installation of the the driver for a Beo6,

4/ for both the Beo5 and Beo6 drivers I just let WindowsXP do it automatically. It went smoothly.

5/ once the remote is upgraded to 3.00a you can then move back to a 64 bit system. It is now correctly identified as a Beo6 and you are able to download the configuration saved on the server via the 32 bit pc.

I have a Beo6 running FW 1.00a. I had CT 4.11 installed and was able to upload changes to the configuration of the Beo6 however since installing CT 6.00 I have had nothing but problems and unable to complete an upload to the Beo6. I have tried CT 6.00 on 4 different laptops WIn XP, Windows Vista, Win 7 32 bit, Win 7 64 bit.

The issue I have is that in device manager on Win XP for example the Beo6 is picked up as a Beo5. When I attempt an upload the CT completes the serialize part, when it gets to the writing configuration part Win XP attempts to re install the driver which now appears as Beo6 in device manager. The driver installation fails and so does the config write to the Beo 6. I have tried going back to version CT 4.11 and this does exactly the same.

Any help would be much appreciated

I managed to sort it. I updated my laptop running Windows 7 32-bit to the latest service pack and installed all important updates. Carried out a firmware update on my laptop which was available from Dell. Ran CT 6.00 which went straight through and updated the firmware on the Beo6 so now I'm running 3.00a. Smile
