Hello people, i have been searching all the weekend this replacement (pads form 1), and i couldn't find anything. I remember that some years ago i found a dealer from beoworld and another one from ebay, but now anything. Someone could help me? I'm from spain, so i think that the online buying is my only way.

Welcome to BeoWorld!

Discussed a few weeks back here on site ... Sadly, there is no solution. There was some chatter about an attempt at reproducing them but I don't think that got very far -nor do I expect that it will.

That's what I've been told by my B&O store...

Too bad Sad. They could keep them on stock, wouldn't cost much to them... I think...

How about cut them from acoustic foam? Kind used as speaker fret?

In my experience, even replacing with the NOS pieces -you suffer the same issue.

I replaced mine. They sat on a shelf for a year unused. I picked them up and the pads crumbled into oblivion.

The only solution is a replacement using different (than original spec) foam.

Do not waste your money on OEM replacements.

I changed mine last time 10 years ago and they became dust in my fingers when last week  I picked up the earphones after a couple years of sleep...

I've heard on the grapevine that an original replacement sponge kit has been located, unopened and unused.

The owner has already spoken to s sponge manufacturing company to see if they might be able to help - so hopefully it may not be too long before a solution is found to this issue.... Wink

Well, they were adjacent to some Form 2's, a pair of Sennheisers, and several A8's with their little foam skins ... none have had the same issue.

It was the original material spec -it simply crumbles into dust.

These things happen. I once had a pair of NB tennis shoes and the soles literally turned to dust after a while! Laughing

Yes, I have bicycle handles starting to melt down. I just might be that we don't have to worry about plastic waste in future... Or maybe usefull things dissapear and waste stays.

About Sennheisers, I had pair of those yellow ones, and their foams vanished to dust.

Any word on where the proper kind of foam could even be sourced? I live in NYC and if someone suggests a place here I'd be happy to go check it out in person.

Meanwhile, I'm working on the leather strap modification as well as creating some of my own foam pads to make my Form 1s comfortable enough to use. I'll start a picture thread once I'm done.

I can now confirm that after a couple of months working with one of the UK's leading sponge manufacturers, trialling and testing different sponge grades and adhesive film types, we've just placed an initial order for 100 sets of replacement Form 1 pads.  They are of a slightly higher grade acoustic foam than the originals, and the adhesive tape sections are of 3M quality we are told.

Tooling costs, and being such a small quantity at a time has meant we will have to be selling them at £29.95 a set - but if it means saving a pair of Form 1's then it's got to be worth it.  If we'd have ordered around 1,000 sets we could have got the price down to £24.95 a set - but we worked out it would literally take 3-4 years to even recoup our original outlay. Bad business..

It should be a few weeks before we get them, and i'll keep you informed.

Kindest Regards

Lee

Nice. I have a very clean pair of F1, but this will do the trick. Sad that I don't really use headphones at home. Still, sign me up.

Didn't the original Form 1 headphones have foam pads covered by some sort of snap-on leathery material covers, and both the foam and the covers were liable to break-up? Or maybe I'm thinking of some other headphones. I seem to recall that B&O sourced their leather covers from another manufacturer and that for some time you could get the covers if you knew which other headphones had the same covers.

I take it that this offer is for the foam inserts only???

Yes, you are thinking of the U70.

The Form1 has a total of (4) four foam only pads: one for each ear and secondary pads in the above ear/temple area.

Bad news...

We heard from the manufacturer, who told us they were on their way to setting up the machine to make them....  that they were sub-contracting them to a company in Germany, who now want us to order £14,600 worth of the sponges - and they also want a few hundred pounds "tooling costs" on top of that. This would also push the cost of a pair of the sponges up to around £40 - and we'd need to be selling around 10 pairs a DAY to make it viable. Something we're clearly never going to do.

Naturally, we've told them to get stuffed - and the company in the UK are seeing what they can do for us instead.

We're as disappointed as you, but we're still trying...

Lee

Hi,

I was enough lucky yesterday, I went to my local B&O dealer and asked him about Form1 foams...And he could find the last  kit of foam available, and gave it to me for free !

See picture below,  they measure exactly 40mm X 40mm; the foam quality seems very light, so I don't know if they will keep steady along the years...

I could not detach the stickers with the risk of riping the foam, so I sticked some double face tape on the headphone.

i'm so sad that thse very basic compnents cannot be find, IMO the product price should be around $5 according to the poor quality of the foam.

GOOD LUCK! At least the price was correct!

I bought the same NOS pair for ~75USD a few years back and they did not last much more than a year.

Funnily enough, last weekend I grabbed mine in a hurry after sitting dormant forever. After a quick listen, I found both ears stuffed full of lovely black micro-powder.

Maybe I'll tackle the project out of spite.

My new ear pads lasted 18 months.  Just came right off, leaving adhesive and a thin layer of foam behind.  I PVA'ed them back in place and so far that works.  Until the next time they die.  Maybe I'll head to Joann's and Michael's and do some brainstorming this weekend.

How thick are they? Is there any "internal" form or are they just flat foam stuck to a card with a hole in it? (Wouldn't flat acoustically transparent "foam cut to shape and stuck to a card with a hole in it" work)? Why not?
