I've just upgraded my battered old Beogram 6000 to a fully restored model, which I had shipped in from North America. Unfortunately, the seller didn't have the original retaining clip for the two arms and instead shrink-wrapped them together. Unfortunately, this was done too tightly, with the result that the arm holding the stylus is now hanging limply. Also, the platter (which was not removed for shipping) doesn't look level.

Are these faults that my B&O dealer and I should be able to repair, or are they serious issues that are likely to be beyond our understanding?

Hi,

You will have to carefully remove the the metal, silver housing that the two arms come out of. There is a small, flat metal bar in the back going from the tonearm over to the back of the fixed are where the lowering lever operates on it. If the tonearm was pulled too far towards the fixed arm then the bar is probably not in the right position so the tonearm just drops (limply as you put it). It should be easy to correct. Just move the lever for the arm lowering out of the way (it is spring driven) and pivot the tonearm so the bar is back where it needs to be.  The back of the arm assembly can be seen on this page (half way down the page).

Sending a Beogram with the platter installed is the same as damaging the deck on purpose.
Return it and claim a refund.
