With all the efford from the guys in the Acoustic Department and with the knowledge of how the BL90/50’s work, it would not be far away to wish for a Slave version of the Balance.....for a genuine stereo setup or as speakers for a BV.

Still wondering what the two (!) RJ45 port are for!

I’m maybe the only one to care, but DLNA has been dropped too .... BS Moment, BS Core, BG 4002, BC 4500, BS1, BL18, BL19, BL8000 + RCV1, A6, M5, M3, A1, P6 (tks Botty), H5, TR1

You are not! I’m still not over it, even after 8h digesting this news. Completely lost faith in the company’s strategy and management. How is it possible to skip the multiroom & connectivity services in their products?? As stated elsewhere in this post, B&O is getting a buffed up Google home (Maxi)! Again I’m sure it will sound freaking good but the whole experience is just as important B&O usp as the sound. Multiroom is as B&O as aluminium, as if they are ditching aluminium for recycled plastic!

Pff now I need a beer

BV Harmony 65 / Eclipse 55 / BL 50 / 19 / 18 / BS 2 all brass

BV Horizon 48 / V1 40 / BL 17 / Beoplay S3 all black

V1 / BL 3 / BS Essence MKII / Beoplay A3 all white

BS Moment / BS 3000 / BS 3200 / BL 400 all silver

Headphones / bluetooth speakers / BLC NL-ML / BLGateway

I know…B&O virus has grown on me !

From what I've heard it's for "daisy chaining" ethernet to other devices (small two port switch?)

Reply for my question on Software Update enabling NL BeoLink Multiroom: "As the brand new BeoSound Balance does not have the respective older ASE (Audio Stream Engine), I am afraid that this is not technically possible through a pure software update."

Regarding speaker design I find it interesting that it uses the same principle for bass as the BeoLab 11 but I wonder why it's only one tweeter pointing forward without "acoustic lens" when it's supposed to be omni directional or for beam control why it haven't got multiple for tweeters in the different directions?

If only Chromecast & Airplay 2 allowed me to play music to all my B&O speakers simultaneously, I would not worry about the disappearance of Beolink Multiroom... But it's not the case on my setup. The only way to play perfectly in sync is Beolink.

I aree. I think B&O is doing an excellent job in the audio dept with their new BeoSound and some Beoplay speakers like the A9. I wish they were all designed to enable of a pair of them to work in stereo mode. A9s in stereo mode would sound amazing. I know because I was able to do it by splitting an RCA input connection and setting both to line in as an experiment. The balance even has the form factor to be a mini Beolab system if it could work as stereo speakers.

B&O in my life 😊:

  • Beolab 8002 + Beolab 2 + Beosound Core with Essence Remote (Office)
  • Beolab 6000 + Beolab 11 + Beosound Core with Essence Remote (Bedroom)
  • Beoplay A9 Mk2 (Living Room)
  • Beosound 1 with wireless dock (Portable)
  • Beosound Balance (Dining)
  • Beoplay H95 (Focused listening, travel)
  • Beoplay H9 (3rd gen) (retired)
  • Beoplay P6 (Portable)
  • Beotime wall clock (hallway entrance)
  • BMW X5 50i with B&O Audio Package (Commute/drive)

Less cables if you have products close by? Maybe it's multipurpose ports so you can connect a BeoLink IR-eye to it (like the BeoSound Core)?!   Big Smile

Unless you can connect a Core to it and make the Balance NetLink (please, please), you really have to wonder if it were not just another part from the bin, like the blanks on your auto dashboard.

If I buy a Beosound Balance and I want to connect it to my BLGW/BLI I will not have the possibility to control it with the Beoliving app? Not be able to make macros in my "smart house"?

Is this right??Sad

Probably you’re right. I have asked Khimo in the Home Automation forum about their way forward, but no reply yet. Interim solution is adding a Core/Essence Mk2 i.e. treating the Balance as a BeoLab instead of a BeoSound. But then the control pad doesn’t have any use.

Those who have 2 x BL90 or 50.....they do it in order for them to work (as a stereo pair - and to get them to work together using the room adaptation/compentation.

Ok Millemissen, I drop the towel here Big Smile

People daisy chain Ethernet devices. At least enough of them for brands to add a second port to their products.

You dont want to understand because you didn't have had the need yet but one day you'll see by yourself and that day will be a great day! Big Smile

Engadget: “If you own other Bang & Olufsen hardware, the Balance can also be used as part of a Sonos-style surround sound or multi-room setup.”

I wonder how to understand that statement.

I read that too, the confuse is complete,

I talk to one of my dealer, he was well aware that beolink was missing, but had not heard if that counted all future products.

He also said that this product have been in development way longer than the Stage which make it even stranger.

On a positive note, if you make it play a radio channel, and code it for My buttons it works like before.

I also read a place that Spotify Connect would be added later.

The information on this new platform is mildly said very bad.

Interesting reading some of the comments under the news from various technology websites.

Your average non B&O customer is fairly negative about the brand. Apart from moaning about the cost, I saw someone comment "it's way too small for the price" (as if cost = bigger speaker) without even hearing it first!

The same people would happily go bankrupt to get one, if it had Linn etc on its side.

In that case it’s either, what are the thinking, these guys?

Buy a BS Balance, hardwire it and connect and place your printer next to it (in days of wireless printers).....hmmmm!.

What would YOU use that ‘switch’ for?

Or they are just not telling us all about this,...yet?

P.S. Sorry - but in my view it is a ridiculous thought having a network switch in an otherweise for the most part/in most use cases wireless device.
I just don’t get it ;-(

Precisely. On Instagram you see many dealers selling a BV (!!) with a BeoSound placed next to it. Even though eg a Harmony has full audio capability people want a separate speaker next to it. Pointless from my point of view, but some neat extra cash for the dealer and B&O.

There's also talk in the Balance youtube videos of using 2 for stereo.  In this case, you can daisy chain your speakers similar to BL4000s (and others).  Not everyone is married to wireless everywhere, all the time.

Millemissem is always very well informed, so my bet goes to something new to come. I’m still quite hopeful as well that the “new audio engine” is not just a AP/CC point, but something of some form is still to come. And maybe the two ethernet ports are part of this.

A pair of pre owned Beolab 17s would be far better value and do the same thing.

I am just wondering, if what we know now, really can be all there is.

This (in this case: these) speaker(s) seem(s) predestined to make a good combination for a stereo setup.

Due to the downscaled features from the BL90/50 - directional sound, left/right/front/omni etc etc - two Harmony’s could do an excellent job if joined together like they do natively with the 90/50.

As someone already mentioned, there are in and out ports on a lot of the dedicated Beolabs.

Maybe this is just wishfull thinking - but still (as mentioned before) it would be somewhat a waste of the work in the Acoustic Department, if they just leave it to one single streaming speaker.

The decisions how to launch/sell products are not made in the Acoustic Department - these are complicated decisions made elsewhere in the company.

Just hoping ;-)

@MM: What I’ve read seems to point into the direction that the stereo pairing functions through IP and needs to be configured through Google Home. So that’s why there is double Ethernet connection. Still hope PL (or digital PL!!) is in the cards.

You can pair any CC speaker to a stereo setup (using the Google Home app) wirelessly - no need for wired connections there.

However that does not mean, that both speakers would work together utilizing room compensation etc.

That could only be achieved through a DPL connection - master/slave setup.

I had the opportunity to see and listen a bit to a BS Balance in a store today.

I am not impressed - but I blame that on the not very good placement of the unit.....far from optimal (why?).

So watch out for how it is presented, before you give it your final vote.

Please be sure how the Sound Direction is set  - Omni sound is different from the Front sound setting

Definitely waiting for a better demonstration.

I like it - but I don’t want it.....due to the lack of the NL fnctionallity.

It’s funny.... ...I found it smaller in real life than I thought from the pictures.

Hi Miki,

I did - however sound tests in a YT video - even over headphones - are not the real thing.....

......and - sorry - I am not very fond of the music that you choose for demoing.

Also the volume seemed to be cranked up a bit too far - on the baron video it was better.

I am looking forward to listen to the Balance under better condition in other shops or with somebody at home....or in Struer.
