spooky and good taste Simonbeo as I have this watch and bought my wife a couple of Alessi watches. There are certain pieces they do so beautifully
we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.

Yes, I bought my wife a red watch by Karim Rashiid Alessi when I bought myself that watch .They do some pieces beautifully ,as you say, and some of the watches seem more in keeping with the subtlety of B&O products than the Rolex , Breitling etc. incidentally I did say to a certain Mr Alessi that they should try doing some flat panel speakers. Alessi is well worth visiting if you're near to Omegna in Italy, by the lake.

Well, here's my third and final watch - a Christmas present to myself and something I've had half an eye on for some time... It's not to everyone's taste, admittedly - but people generally acknowledge they're incredibly well made and the mechanisms are first class.
Franck Muller King Conquistador XL (the big one, i've got big wrists!) all cosseted inside the most ludicrously large and expensive box I've ever seen. It makes a Panerai box look positively understated - and I never thought I'd say that!! It's like a pirates treasure chest!!! LOL
Questionable quality close up, but here goes...
What a piece of crap. You would need to pay me a lot of money to get me to wear that!!!

So, you don't like it then...
I doubt it's actually 'crap' as the list price is over £20k... but opinions on style and design are subjective, and personal - and you are welcome to yours, of course.
I quite like it, I picked it up for a fraction of what the original owner paid - and I won't lose money on it if or when I decide to sell. That, to me, is a no-brainer. I love watches - and if I can own some fine watches at no financial cost to myself apart from the actual outlay then it gets no better than that..

It's not my cup of tea - but then most watches aren't.
However I was reading several articles on the watch industry yesterday, and I found the pricing discussion and the revelation that a lot of the $8,000 bracket watches all use the same innards very interesting.

If you fill this box with gold or osmium or uranium or some other kind of heavy unobtainium you know why it has straps to carry it on both sides. It reminds me to the box with the Struer design cabinet inside yout sent to me. I disvovered the carrying straps at the inner box after hauling the whole box upstairs ...

I'm interested in the 'Health' apps mainly - but the most important thing is that I won't be paranoid about bumping or knocking it. It'll be my everyday work watch.

Calling a Franck Muller King Conquistador a piece of crap? Forget it! Its is a piece of fine craftsmanship of the manufacturer. Personally I’m not into it but whatever you think, it stays made by highly skilled professionals.

We all know this is a 1.0 product, and the next iterations will be better, so I've done what my conscience told me would be the smart thing to do for me personally, order the low-end model first, as a "trial."
I've pre-ordered the "geek" watch: Space Gray Sport 38mm (I have small wrists) with the black elastomer band (expected Delivery May 8th). I have an appt. to try on at the Apple Store today, I'm going to try the watch I ordered, as well as the Stainless Steel with the Milanese Loop. If I like that one, I'll place an order for it, and cancel my pre-order.
I've also heard that some Stores / Pop up locations / Boutiques actually have some models on sale. Maybe my local Apple Store does as well, we shall see.
I consider myself a watch guy, but I don't own any. I used to wear a cheap Fossil Arkitekt for years, and stopped when for a few days I forgot to wear it, and thought "meh." I love haute horlogerie, and the independent brands: Urwerk, Greubel Forsey, FP Journe, Philip DuFour and the like, as well as the new technology like the constant force escapements by GP. I'll never in my life own any of these, but I can admire them from afar. The Apple Watch doesn't compare, it is a tool watch. An appliance in a nice package. And that's how I see it. I would NEVER compare the Apple watch to something coming from the bench of a master watchmaker. Apples and Oranges.
My lust after watch at present is this. I like watches I need to check that I am actually wearing so the Apple Watch is just too big.

How many realise that several desirable watches in this thread actually use an ETA movement?
The automatic watches made by Christopher Ward have the same movement (or sometimes the slightly lower grade finished Selita equivalent).
The Ward watches say Swiss Made, but I believe they send all the Swiss components to Hong Kong for assembly. Christopher Ward did admit in one of his blogs that he undercuts most other makers but still makes a 100% mark-up. So you can pay £300-£400 or up to £20000 for the same ETA movement in a stainless steel case with hard crystal.

I have a Christopher Ward watch - very nice it is too, if a bit thick. They now make some of their own movements but I have not heard the Hong Kong story. I am sure there is a huge mark up in watches - the Piaget does have its own movement though and is the thinnest automatic movement made. Still ridiculously expensive though!!

Its a Rolex Explorer 2 - and apparently is a Steve McQueen special, whatever that is and worth a bit to a collector - certainly more than my late father in law paid for it
Looks a bit gold in the pic but its stainless steel (must be reflections of something else I guess)
