Razlaw:Just updated my Beosound 5. Great update!

In my honest opinion, stop nagging!
What did you expect? After an update suddenly having a touchscreen on your BS5? A keyboard which flips from behind?
When did you buy your BS5?
Several years ago when they released the BS5, Spotify wasn't as common as it is today.
So, give me an example of a another brand product which adds features like the BS5 does, beside an iPad or any other "touchscreen" device.
Easy searching without having a keyboard will always be a problem.
So, when Spotify came available, members/owners wanted Spotify. B&O added on request.
Then the complaint came about the missing search function. B&O added on request again.
As Spotify can be used on multiple devices, like both a mobile, pc or iPad, playlists are synchronized automatically on all devices.
So, give me an idea how B&O should solve your search function instead of complaining.
I agree with Beobuddy, difficult to make a search funktion without touch-screen. You have to work with the product, incuding its limitations. But the nice thing about this upgrade is the ability to ad ALBUMS and PLAYLIST to a designated number, not just the colorred preset buttons. Maybe the Beo6 will be upgraded aswell with search funktion ! Or even the Beoremote app or othe IOS.

Very good news. Thanks b&o for this improvement.
One BIG THING IS MISSING, an index of artist when searching into big collection.
When I open the beomaster 5 hard drive from my dlna tv I can see an index of the artist name (abc, def, ...), it should be possible to do the same thing from the bs5.

ipad app maybe?
just like Creation5.
It`s not only a "search" function update. You can also create favourites with color buttons and playlists via number buttons like the N.MUSIC functions.
There are also three ADD and two ACTION (?) functions.
I`m searching Spotify directly on the ipad or on my Mac book over the day.
In the evening back home, I`ve the time to LISTEN to the music via BS5, so I don`t really miss the search function.
Next step could be to install a Spotify remote function like remoteless on Beolink app to get two way function like in N.MUSIC mode.
Beo, please one wish: would be great to have a function that just plays the latest addition to Spotify.
I could think of A.MEM - 0 or A.MEM - select long....(?)
Thanks
Stefan
"Beo, please one wish: would be great to have a function that just plays the latest addition to Spotify."
Appears the newest Spotify release no longer shows most recent additions. All I get is recommendations. Wonder if that change is worldwide or if I messed up a setting somewhere.
I loaded the Beosound update for Spotify and played one of my playlists. After about 10 mins, the system halts with a solid blue screen. My Beosound 5 was halting periodically after the last update. With the recent Spotify updates, the Beosound 5/BMS started to become useful. Unfortunately for me the Beomaster 5 is failing.
I am aware this will be expensive to fix or replace and may end up in the dustbin of history. Normally I would consider upgrading to a new Beomaster 5 but with the uncertainty of B&O's product direction this seems like the end of my Beosound 5.
Here are a few reasons I hesitate to purchase anymore B&O products.
1. The NL networking makes all of my ML systems obsolete unless I purchase a $900 USD converter box. This make all my analog sources digital. Not a good option.
2. I don't like BeoPlay products. I have a Beolit 12 purchased new and is less than satisfactory. Wireless mode is 2008 tech and is clumsy.
3. B&O has failed to present us with a product roadmap. I have no idea what I should look forward to over the next year. Recent history suggests less expensive but mediocre products.
4. Finally, the worldwide economic problems could be the end of B&O. As difficult as that is to contemplate, it is a very real possibility.
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
NO. You can NOT use Spotify on Encore.

And then noticed on the BeoSound 5 that "new releases" DOES still show up. Who would have thought?

seethroughyou:I am so glad I sold my Bs5. Terrible product and when I read this and similar threads it reminds me of my hopes being dashed at every cycle of update. The hardware was 5 years out of date when released in 2009 and since its release its software updates have looked more and more antiquated, rushed and unfinished.
Well, I'm sure we're all very happy for you, but isn't there a 12 Step program, grief counseling, something that might help you get over the trauma? You really seem to dwell on this to a level that appears unhealthy...
Jeff
I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
Apparently complaining about products that you no longer own is what passes for a hobby with you.
I'd add that unlike you, I pay to help keep this site alive, as such I find comments from the peanut gallery who's sole purpose are to whine, complain, and denigrate the very company this site is designed to support to be obnoxious and in bad taste.
Strange remarks about people not being happy about BS5, on a thread about Spotify search funktion !
Not really the issue here. If you dont like, so be it- but what is your point ?

I suspect it's because what most view as a tedious diatribe the complainer views as a social life. My precious laptop was a POS, but you don't see me on the manufacturers site whining about it constantly.
As for see whatever, you're like a person who walks into a party, spits in the punchbowl. And then gets all huffy when people don't like it.

If the problem occurred after the update, then it's unlikely the hardware that fails.
You can do a system recovery, which loads the standard software installed on the harddrive and installs the update afterwards.
Your music will be unaffected by the recovery. Your content is stored on a different part of the harddrive and will be unaffected by the whole procedure.
BTW, if it's the hardware, several things can be done before throwing it at the bin.
seethroughyou:Gysse2004, you don't get the point. Really? You don't get the point about a function not working properly, the software being incomplete, the lack of attention to a device costing thousands, the frustration of people who wait eagerly to find its still got issues and problems, the multiple threads by a multitude here who feel B&O are being a tad inattentive and sloppy with this product...
As already said. The system was released already some time ago. It was introduced functioning properly.
But then the requests came in, people wanted to copy their cd's, an axtra auxilary through USB, ability to add an NAS, 2 way communication via Beo6.
I think it inevitable that problems occurs, especcially when there numerous configurations. Combinations with existing beosounds ectetera.
It's always the same story. Complaints enough to read, but the proper working sets/owners hardly.
Deos anybody know if there is updates about IOS or Beo6 search funktion ? As this would make is really complete.
Happy owner of a BS5

Then, why in the wide world of sports did you buy one?
Sounds like you only have yourself to complain about ... Start another thread!

Your comment about different configurations is spot on, if you'll pardon the pun. This is one reason Apple doesn't seem to have the same issues MS does, they tightly control the hardware aspect whereas MS long ago decided to focus on supporting the largest hardware base possible.
This probably also explains why B&O has not thrown as much development into the BS5E. At first this puzzled me, as it seemed a better approach, provide the interface device to use someone else's storage and computer solution. I was in favor of that due to price and the fact it would allow flexibility. Upon further thought, a small company like B&O probably decided that keeping up with adding more and more functionality to a device where they didn't control the HW aspect or supporting SW applications was way beyond what a small firm with limited SW development people could do well, and opted for putting most of their effort into the BS5 where they have more control and understanding of the HW. Given that even this approach has apparently had hiccups, it is probably a wise one.
My solution for my needs has been to use a music server computer where I choose the HW and SW that suits my needs and stream to a Playmaker connected to my Beosound. This works fine for me, but I think the BS5 is sexy, and if my Beosound went belly up I'd buy one if fixing it wasn't an option.
Ultimately no one outside of B&O knows why they make the decisions they do, we can only guess.

I don't understand correctly, I think.
I assume you bought the BS5 for it's functions/features at that moment at the dealers place? I also assume that it worked correctly when placed and demonstrated by your dealer. Otherwise you would probably have ordered your dealer to take it all back.
You don't buy a system for it's pronounced or (your) expected features?
Bv7Mk3:I love my Bs 5 :-) used it every day! right now sitting in the garden having fish & chips yum listening to the garden speakers... And YES I'm one of the few people that not too bothered about Spotify as have enough home music also Internet Radio to keep me happy! This item for me has got better over time. I moved from a cd 3200 to the 5 Yes it should of had Hdmi not Dvi ect.. This does not stop it being the unit for some owners.

Subversive! Counter revolutionary! Unclean!
How dare you interrupt Occupy Beoworlds Two Minutes Hate!
Seriously though, it's nice to hear from a satisfied owner for a change. I can see the benefits of the BS5 approach, there are times I find updating PC s/w seems to always occur when I want to listen to music, but not enough to sacrifice my current approach. Maybe someday I'll decide the occasional irritation is worth it, but not while my current system is working. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if my BS died and wasn't repairable.
BTW, no offence, but the hardware does the job just fine. You don't need a 6 core 3,4 ghz proccessor with 16 GB memory etcetera.
Just a reliable, low powerconsuming mainboard is sufficient.
I think it's rather clever that on remote not only the OS can be updated, but also the mainboard's BIOS and the ML board's aswell.
It's a bit like updating your cars system management while driving it...
seethroughyou:Because I was misled by the B&O salesman who sold it to me.
I am sorry.
Having reviewed your months and months' worth of BS5 posts and dealer interaction commentary in the archived forum, you must have genuinely been misled.
Carry on.
P.S. If not too much trouble, could you provide me with this salesman's contact info? I'd hire and pay him double yesterday.
seethroughyou:No I will not start a new thread. If you can't tolerate reading forum threads that disagree you will need to go elsewhere. This is a forum and not a mutual appreciation society where we all have to tow the party line in a dictatorship.
My, you seem to have changed your tune!
