Hi Cleve,
I remember it as if it were yesterday, the sudden and unexpected disappearance of the phonograph record.
I walked into the huge Tower Record store in Bellevue, Washington that formally had an entire floor of vinyl records (cassettes and CD’s were located on a lower floor basement) and there were none, nada, zip. This was 1990.
So I asked a fresh-faced twenty-something where the records were and I got a blank stare. Records? The kid told me the records were kept in Seattle…. meaning bookkeeping records.
Still not comprehending what had happened, I pointed out, sarcastically as I recall, that the company name was Tower Records and they had a gigantic neon sign to that affect on the fascia of there building.
Still nothing and then with blinding brilliance the answer came to this young man, “Oh vinyl. We don’t have any.” And that was it, the day LP’s died for me.
I really don’t want to think about the hundreds of records tossed out to save weight prior to an international move. But I saved the “best” stuff (thank God!) and now they are pressing LP’s again. Millions of them.
I am just delighted.
I especially enjoy today’s kids who are buying “retro” and with such enthusiasm.
Jeff

Yesterday I took an extended iTunes "radio" tour (one of the best ever in terms of duration and "choices") and listened to a range of tracks from these artists; do you know / like / recommend any of them in particular ?

Today was spent resolving the issue of WHY one ATV would stream our music but the other would not.
Resorting to the Apple Support Forums I found a thread started because of upgrades to Yosemite ... which broke various combinations of iTunes home sharing.

Anyway, having got it working I am now streaming LINN studio master samples to the Apple TV 3 into the BV8-40 and out of the BL3s ... some tracks are stunning; a collection of previous LINN 24 days before Christmas free downloads, and two purchases - their 40th Anniversary set and their 7th year of an Audio Sampler:

Bizarre that iTunes home sharing works in our Windoze home but gets broken in Apple homes.

Millemissen: I guess you are a 'jazz-ignorant'
I just checked my iTunes library and sorted it by genre. I have 2 "jazz" albums in there. Killer Bees by Airto Moreira & The Gods of Jazz and Billie Holiday Forever Gold.
But jazz has never been that interesting to me, though I've tried to listen to Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillepsie, the Marsalis bros, Spyro Gyra, Herbie Hancock and others. In fact, until the last 5 years or so, I wouldn't even listen to Steely Dan because "it was too jazzy." Yeah, I know. I'm an idiot.

So how do the M70 speakers differ from S75’s? (I realize a M75 would be a direct comparison.
I ask ONLY because I am a big fan of the S75’s and have never heard any of the M-series.
we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.

So how do the M70 speakers differ from S75’s?
The top 3 drivers are all aligned. The woofer and phase link look similar. The midrange and tweeter domes are different. The cabinet volumes may be similar, but the M70 is taller and perhaps not as deep.
Having never heard the S75, I can't comment to its sound.
Testing Beomaster 3000 type 2402 early version 1969-1972.
Found it friday on the bottom of a stack of other junked hifi in a second hand store. Never been to the store but I got the news that a Beolab 5000 system was there but sadly sold the day before. Looked around and noticed several old '70s B&O items stacked with tons of other dis regarded black and silver other brands.
Got the Beomaster free and bought, wrapped in bubble wrap and took it home.
Now coupled to my main pc which needed some better sound production and it sounds great. No hum from it and lights all light up. The only fault is a plastic bit is broken by the FM tuner wheel but I need the rabbit ear antenna for it anyway. I could slightly find 2 radio stations so there are radio options working too. The powerplug was missing but got a wire with one plug I could use also + a 5 pin DIN cable looking like B&O type P it says.
So testing various sound mostly youtube and enjoying the look. Currently using Beovox 2702 but they are not good so testing what Beovox would be better of the ones I got.

Hi Rich,
My California buddy who gifted me with a Beogram 8000, S75 and S45 speakers plus two MMC 6000 cartridges does not hold either M70 or M75 speakers in high regard.
This friend is an absolute maven when it comes to stereo gear having bought, repaired and sold McIntosh and B&O equipment for decades. So when he offers an opinion, I rend to listen.
Specifically his commentary went along the lines, “The M70 and M75’s are indistinguishable from the S75’s, so why bother?”
The M-series, on paper should be a superior product and priced accordingly, thus his unenthusiastic view of these speakers…. and hence my question in this regard.

Well, you probably should've asked me, "Rich, having owned a pair of M70s for a few years now, and having had them in your primary listening system, and having listened to them for many, many hours, what is your opinion of them?"
OK Rich,
I’ll happily bite, so what do YOU think of your M70 speakers?
Piaf: I’ll happily bite, so what do YOU think of your M70 speakers?
I like them. They aren't magic or anything, but they'll do just fine for now. They sound nice and effortless when playing at moderate levels, and can rock when they're called upon to do so. They play nice with the several solid state amps and receivers I've used them with. (Never tried tubes.) The bass can be tuned a bit with stuffing experimentation. Height and placement close to walls doesn't affect their sound much, which I like.
I think ideally they want to be in a bigger room than I can put them in, but oh well.
For the money and work I have in them, they're a keeper. I can see some day getting something bigger but that day will be in a different house. But I can understand why someone would say there isn't anything special about them. I mean seriously. There have literally been many hundreds of loudspeaker models through the years. I doubt no one would put these on a top ten of all time list.
Doesn't mean they aren't a fine loudspeaker, though.
Thanks for the honest and in-depth speaker appraisal, which is much appreciated!
Speakers are subjective beasts and dependant on room size, placement, and personal taste.
My overall “best” speakers are the Linn Isobarics, which due to purchase price, are arguably in a class by themselves. The Linns are a brilliant speaker, extremely realistic, but weren’t designed for North American taste….. that is polite for they lack bass.
The McIntosh ML-2’s are remarkable in so many ways, not least of which the fact that they are original untouched 1971 speakers, BUT the upper end is muddy. The bass however is INCREDIBLE! In concert with the Linns, they make for the “perfect speakers.”
Many folks here on BeoWorld love/admire the S45 speakers for their accuracy… and I concur. For a tiny bookshelf speakers the S45 is a remarkable achievement. Some fault them for a lack of bass, but I don’t agree with that assessment.
My only objection to the S45 is the inability to produce really loud and dynamic music.
If I were prevented from playing my various combination speakers (Linn Isobaric/McIntosh ML-2 or B&O MC120.2/Fisher XP-66) and had to listen only to a single pair, I personally would rate the B&O S75’s as the best that I own.
The S75 is a very well balanced speaker with no deficiencies. Peter likes to say “they can make a lot of noise” and if noise is what you are playing, they surely can do that. More to the point the S75 has good highs, midrange, and solid bass….. and yes, they can play at volume.
I have been casually “shopping” for another pair of speakers and this is where my B&O buddy told me to take a pass on either the M70 or M75 speakers because in his words, “set side by side, you can’t tell the difference between them and your S75's,” and I already have 4 S75’s.
If I read between the lines, that means he is saying that I’d likely enjoy the M70’s or M-75’s, but as they sound remarkably the same as my existing S75’s, is wouldn’t be worth the effort, which makes sense.
So I keep my eye out for a really nice pair of M100’s or M150’s.
Just got the latest CD/album from my old 'mate' Robin Williamson a couple of days ago.
Recorded in January and released in november this year.
Today i had the time to sit down to listen to it - it is one of those albums you have to sit down to listen to.
Robin has been making (lots of) music all the years since the glorious days of The Incredible Stringband in the sixties/seventies.
Each time I get to hear 'news' from him, it like getting a letter from a long time friend.
Despite of him being now 73 he is in good shape and his voice is still marvelous - after some years of 'health trouble'.
Met him last time 2 years ago at a concert in Ålborg/Denmark - he is a great guy.
He has made a couple of albums for the ECM label - they are mostly 'a bit' experimental.
But he is a guy of many colours anyway!
On this album he has had help from a couple of guys, which is not always the case.
Nice to hear his hardanger fiddle again.
So if you are interested in contemporary, unique music - far from the realities of today's mainstream - this might be worth a go.

I tried iTunes Radio and found a station for your two discoveries ...
Good to be sharing our tastes.
elephant: Tina Malia Eliane Elias Balmorhea
Elaine Elias is very different (i.e. traditional jazz, American Song Book, etc) from the other two ... however there is an Elias that has tracks that are similar to the others ...

Conquest of Paradise by Vangelis
I have that on cassette (via the FS).
Just listening into a home made bestial playlist (From bee to lion) ...
Vangelis did the music for Blade Runner as well, both excellent scores.
I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
Not as pretty perhaps - but....
