Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti LP reissue from this year on the BG3000 restored by Soren. A wonderful pressing. Just dead quiet when it's supposed to be and dynamic music otherwise.

There is something special about those old decks, lately I have been using my BG 1000 and the BG 1202 and mostly playing Stones on them

just bought and playing Joe Walsh's Analog Man.... I paid an additional £1.00 for this deluxe version which contains a live performance DVD, which is so much better than the normal bonus drivel some bands offer (take note I don't want to hear 53 versions of your best track on the album in different mastering formats or excluding the hi-hat and snare!).

I was apprehensive at first with this album as it's produced by the great Jeff Lynne (Ex ELO), now I'm a huge fan of Jeff and his production values but sometimes, just sometimes he gets a little too over powering. Well the Brum (slang word used for people from Birmingham) must be softening in his old age as this album contains all the wit you would expect from Joe Walsh but mixed with the tight production of Mr Lynne and without a hint of the Traveling Wilburys.

The album also features Jeff Lynne, Ringo Starr, David Crosby, Graham Nash and Little Richard plus others in supporting musical roles.

OK the album came out in 2012 and somehow I missed it but if you are a fan of Joe Walsh or the Eagles style music you will not be disappointed with this offering .....

Early morning exercise bike ... Random playlist aka tracks not yet listened to ...

20 minutes worth listening via my H8s

Then another 35 minutes

And a finale to round off the "ride"

Some pieces were great for simulating "sprints" Big Smile

Farm Machine by Steve 'n' Seagulls.... Finnish rockabilly meets heavy metal is the only way to describe this album (they have a few great videos on YouTube) nicely recorded and produced for a small group with the instruments nicely spread in the stereo field.

a tad too much bass for natural string instruments in my opinion .... pass the home brew

Somewhere along the line I acquired Brubeck's Newport 1958 LP.  I finally cleaned and re-sleeved it a few weekends ago during Operation Clean and Re-sleeve Everything That Hasn't Been Cleaned and Re-Sleeved.  (Anyone ever clean a hundred 45s in one sitting?)

I have yet to spin the Brubeck - do I need to?

I have some 500 45s waiting, I did 120 LPs in batches of 30, using the spin clean, changing liquid for each 30 LPs

Have to say that once I got the 4004 sorted and working correctly I pretty much have forgotten about most of my other decks. I seem to have contracted 4000 virus. Pretty much what I look for first on eBay now.

and more Brubeck ... the Paul Desmond album was a lucky find $5 at a record swap.

The 3300 system I refurbished back in 2010/2011 and have not really done anything with it since. This week it goes to a new home where hopefully it will be used and appreciated.

Hi Ricardo,

Glad your Beogram 4004 delights….. welcome to the 4000 virus.

But assuming you are not using a Beomaster 2400, that would mean the deck is not remote controlled.

It you think the virus has you now, WAIT to see what happens when the 4004 can be turned on from across the room, paused, and turned off. (Turning off the Beomaster also turns off the 4004. Beyond cool in a retro way. Big Smile

Its not fair, after I bought my 5000s I thought that I was nearly done with the virus, there was just the small Beolit 505 that my son found for me, but now you guys wake up the virus again with your talk about BG 400X, Ricardo even store away his BG 1700 and use a BG 4004, its not fair. I will not buy a BG 400X before all other items are working properly, I will not, I will not.

Søren,

What the heck has FAIR got to do with it? Point is that it’s FUN.

I gotta tell ya, you know how much I love and adore my Beogram 4000. Nothing has changed about my affection, BUT since I got my 4004 to be remote controlled, basically it is the only turntable I use.

The whole process is just so damn cool!

As an aside, touching the control buttons will eventually lead to discoloration, but with the remote, you don’t even have to open the dustcover, except to change the record.

Press the remote P and like magic, the 4004 jumps into action.

Resist the virus as long as you can, we will all commend your strength of character, but in the end, you are gonna give in. Then enjoy!!!!

Its now evening the day after, the whole day I was running in circles around myself, no clear thoughts in my head, after my siesta things cleared up a little. Yesterday after arriving I emptied the car, mixed a good Rum and Coke, drank it and went straight to bed. I am getting too old for these 12 hour 1200 Km drives. Next time will be with a layover somewhere in route.

Came in this morning for a break from mowing the lawn.  Grabbed some ice water, went to the dining room, pushed down on the "1" lever of my BM4000 and......

....blew out the right channel.

So after putting a backup receiver in its place, getting drunk on Maker's Mark, I'm now spinning the Rolling Stones' Beggars's Banquet.  It's a first pressing I spend way too much on.  But sometimes you have to spin Sympathy for the Devil on your best turntable.  For Reasons.

Interesting Evan - I spent the weekend using Apple Music.

Based on Fleur's post I tried Cassandra Wilson, and then Greta Bradman as we had watched her "Australian Story" these past two weeks. And Elina Garanca because of an "Introduction to Bellini" playlist Apple promoted to us.

Unfortunately Last.FM's scribbler only captures Apple Music plays if I first "make available offline" the playlist and then play it from the hard drive rather than stream it.

(Interesting question: is steaming a delivery mechanism, or is it an indication of not owning the rights?)

Anyway I did not keep a record like you, but here are some offline tracks Last.FM did capture:

Of course you did.  And it probably cost $3.50 a ticket.

I had a Close Encounter of the Third Kind with some Goony Bird from a 1986 Dead show at what used to be called Pine Knob in Clarkston, Michigan.  That was my "fat drunk and stupid is no way to go through life" stage.

$5 to be exact if I remember right. i was 16. i went with my older sister and a couple of other friends. Got high as kites before during and after. that was back during the festival seating day and we managed to push our way to about 25 feet or so from the stage until the crush finally got to be too much.

The craziest concert though was Aerosmith opened by Nazareth on July 4 1977 at Market Square Arena (indoor) same ***, festival seating, we pushed our way up to the front, but this time the fans were shooting off fireworks during the show inside the arena. Both bands and the police stopped the show several times threatening to cancel out if the "crowd " didnt mellow out.

It didnt but the show went on anyways.

The Kansas, Molly Hatchett show at Christmas was nearly as bad but that time it was because the police gangs were marauding the the crowds randonly shaking down groups of people, making arrests and publicly beating concert goers all in good holiday cheer..

I've been to only 20 odd shows in my life, and sadly (or happily, depending on your POV), they were all pretty tame affairs.  I tend to see the same guys over and over (Roger Waters, Tom Petty, Neil Young) so maybe the same people are always there!!!

Back to listening, I came into the dining room last night with a box, my BM4000, and packing materials, and turned on my non B&O replacement receiver.  My initial reaction was DEAR GOD THE RIGHT M70 WOOFER SOUNDS BLOWN!!!!  Turned off the stereo, boxed up the BM4000, had dinner, then began checking the right M70.

Long story short, the fault was with the replacement receivers "Low Level" push button, a feature which gives -20 dB attenuation in order to give a more useful range of volume control at the low level.  Nothing wrong with either M70 after the BM4000 went down.

Off the BM4000 goes to Benny today.
