Sal:

Great song. In fact that's always been my first go to song when auditioning speakers.

Congratulations on the 18s, they look superb and I'm sure they sound even better :-)

👍🏼they're better than I thought Sal 😀

Correction - I know have Spotify air played to the Essence (normal AirPlay, not the "connect" feature)

I'm listening to the Beolab 18 playlist

I'm listening to it on the iPad to via AirPlay to the Apple TV which is plugged into the avant with the avant sending it to my Beolab 18 wisa

I am listening to Spotify because of Duels comment in another thread about "weekly discovery" playlist ...

But I can't find the demo products BeoLab 18 you have !

Do I have to buy some 18s first ?

Interestingly I see the "premium" notation against my Essence, whereas Apple Music happily air plays to it !

my wife has just joined a book club..... I'm sure you know the format, group of people meet regularly, have a short list of books, vote on one that is to be read and they meet at a later date to discuss in detail.

and this got me thinking, apart from this thread do any of you guys do similar with music ?

30 years ago, yes, all the time.

20 years ago, yes, every once in awhile.

Today, none of my local friends listen to music the way I do (entire albums).  I can't even get my wife to sit down and listen to a record with me.  It's just Spotify as background music for my wife and our friends.

Mark, I am not entirely certain that I understand the question, but if you mean formal reviews, well clearly we are not doing that here.

This thread is more what we found recently or just decided to play. Many times there are comments like we liked it, it reminded us of [fill in the blank], etc. But not a formal review.

I know I literally bounced off the walls with my new Bette Midler double PINK LP set and left no doubt that I thought the recording was “the neatest thing since sliced bread.” But I didn’t rate each song along with Bette’s delivery, which was superb, by the way.

Mark, if you are asking that we consider doing formal recording reviews: New, Old, LP, Cassette, CD, MP3….. I am not sure there would be enough enthusiasm for such a thread.

Maybe there would….. heck, I’d look at it if there were one.

Rich, you may call me a friend!

I am a dedicated album listener.

There are a few amongst the Beoworlders, I guess. But probably not enough to start 'doing similar with music'.

Anyway, that would have to take place in another thread - this thread has a rather different approach (noted above).

By the way it/this thread is always good read - can be very inspiring (and pretty time-consuming, when you want to listen to all the nice stuff mentioned here).

Actually we have something like that down here, each Thursday we meet 4-6 people, playing dice games and listening to vinyl, I´m the only one with a working TT so its always here in my house, It started out with dice games only, but when I started playing my vinyl, the other members started digging out their old vinyl records and bring them, so now the dice games just remains as an excuse to get together and listen to good music, some times we are telling the story of the memories that a song or melody has in it for us.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

Hi Søren,

Sounds like ENORMOUS fun, very southern hemisphere. Good God I miss Florida! Paradise

Here in the frozen northland people say “I am sorry” for nearly every encounter and the idea of a turntable….. well Canadians have “heard” about them, eh? Sorry.

The few hearty souls that have come over to hear my Beogram 4000 have been overwhelmed and “intimidated.” Why? I have no idea. There was no need to compare the 4000 to their own systems, just enjoy it. Doesn’t seem to work that way, not yet anyway.

Then there is the Seeberg which ALWAYS draws attention, but there has never been an occasion when someone didn’t have sensitive hearing, so no one has yet to enjoy this masterpiece of the fifties.

I know there are vinyl aficionados out there; I just got to find them.

I like to open my ears to new music, it's a great discovery as we all know and I do end up taking on several on the reviews and recommendations on this thread.

Colour me impressed, no make that VERY impressed that it only took you part of a day “fiddling” with your Beogram 4000. It took me months of countless adjustments to get it right. Fix one thing and immediately something elsewhere went awry. However, I’ll say this, once you get your 4000 right, it stays right.

Enjoy the pinnacle of the B&O range of turntables.

@Piaf - Big Smile haha my fiddling was giving it a jolly good clean and removing and lubricating the damper/solenoid mechanism which had seized with old grease (props to Beolover for his excellent YouTube videos!)

The more advanced tinkering is above my skill level at the moment!

I am delighted to tell you, you were lucky…. and GOOD for you!

My Beogram arrived shattered; details are old news here on BeoWorld, so I’ll skip that part.

However once the 4000 was made whole with help from Frede, the adjustments were madding. And I mean God-awful stretch your patience to the limit.

Get the tonearm to drop in the right place and it immediately picked up too soon.

Fix the pick-up and the arm began dropping like a guillotine.

Solve the tonearm descend speed and the tonearm refused to pick-up at all at the end of play.

This scenario was repeated more times that I care to remember.

Every single adjustment immediately cased a different problem and this went on for weeks.

At long last, once these “issues” were all corrected, they stayed that way….. now for over 8 years. (Well not counting shipping the 4000 back to Martin in Denmark only to find out it had the wrong size fuse.)

Anyway, glad you had an easier time. Enjoy your masterpiece that it is!

Been away for awhile work, dealing with some family issues. Plus I didnt want to come out and admit it, but I suppose I should fess up and show that I have been over to the "dark side" and I have to say that I like it. In fact I like it a lot.

I hope that this doesnt result in my immediate banishment  from Beoworld but oh well might as well show you what I have done.

Quelqu'un Qui Sen Va - Francoise Hardy (japanese pressing) on a Dual 1245 and Tandberg TR1040. Outstanding sound. I have it all pumping thru the Redlines. so I havent abandoned B&O altogether. But now I have a small cold. Wondering what would be the best set of Tandberg speakers to mate it with and I am looking at a Solvsuper that is out on the bay right now.

God help me........

Hey Ricardo,

You might be aware how much I appreciate Tandberg….. although I have never so much as seen one of their amps.

I looked at a couple units on eBay, but they either needed a lot of work, or were priced in the Stratosphere.

Living in the land of Wal-Mart and Honda I have enough trouble trying to maintain my B&O gear… I hate to think how Tandberg would go over.

So don’t think of it as the Dark Side, Tandberg is still Scandinavian.

I have my own Dark Side and it is called McIntosh and I owned it long before I ever heard of B&O….. so I offer NO apologies.

Enjoy your Tandberg!

Interesting is an understatement - probably all but impossible to find here in the USA.

Ricardo,

Good God I know the feeling, “Impossible to find in the USA.” You should try Vancouver Island, a beautiful place but forget about high end electronics.

I have been searching for a Beolab 5000 for 2 ½ years and nearly as long for M100 or M150 speakers. (True, I found a great Beolab 5000, but chickened out…..)

However your link to Mireille Mathieu was a BIG hit….. you know me well. I can’t speak for Søren, but I imagine he’ll like it as much as I did.

I have Mireille Mathieu on my Seeburg jukebox, as well as Christian Anders. (Neither what you would expect from a Seeburg M100B jukebox from Tarpon Springs, Florida.

Thanks for the link!

my latest disc to play is from the Reverend Billy Gibbons... a bluesy variation off ZZ top with a splash of Santana and hint of reggae ... yep I still buy the physical and upload to the cloud and my server and then all my favourites are duplicated on vinyl

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.
