There's no life without humour. It can make the wonderful moments of life truly glorious, and it can make tragic moments bearable.

I couldn't agree more! Life without humor is impossible..... or feels that way.

"Salve Regina"

It's an older chant, but the solemn version is remarkable. You may listen to the text in the musical Evita by A. L. Webber (very simplified) or life in the next Benedictine monastery as I do it in a few minutes in Gerleve (600 km SSW of Struer). Or you go to Einsiedeln, where they sing a version at 4 (on Sundays 5) voices or to the Cistercians or Trappists, they add a few melismas more to their version.

Have a nice Sunday night ...

The latest release from Boards of Canada along with some Korean  Psyche Pop.

Shin Joong Hyun and the classic Now by Kim Jung Mi. She was discovered by none other than Shin Joong Hyun who together produced the Now LP which catapulted her to fame in Korea. At the time regarded as their Marianne Faithful or Francoise Hardy. It was about the only contemporary rock/pop LP from Korea to gain any worldwide airplay. K-Pop as it is now called was only a regional flavor back then.

Sadly for both of them they fell out of favor with the political regime in power and their music was banned from public airplay in South Korea.  Both spent time in prison for there subversive political views, They were basically Korean hippies.

Not a problem, every now and then I find something worth sharing!

The song is very 'talky' at the beginning, but if you can stand it there is a decent tune hidden in there. As well as some funny lyrics!

I am currently listening to Dark Side of the Moon SACD/CD hybrid on my new (to me) Beogram CD 50 in the bedroom system.  The photo shows an earlier CD playing:  Disc 1 of Eric Clapton Crossroads.

I used to own Crossroads years ago, but lost it in divorce #2.  Grabbed it from a used record store in La Crosse, Wisconsin a few months ago and have been listening to it a lot lately.  Though I will always argue Jimmy Page is #1, I've been digging Clapton a lot lately.  Wish I could have seen him play with Roger Waters on the Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking Tour.

Did a bit of general cleaning out in the garage after work, followed by digging out some old separates I'm going to set up in the spare bedroom.  All while listening to a new pressing of This Is Spinal Tap.

How much more black could the cover be?  And the answer is, "None.  None more black."

I came back from El Salvador physical in good shape, but my soul is hurt, no good music for 3 weeks, its time for some black magic, starting here because it was standing in front. Its just amazing how ABBA integrate the women voices as kind of musical instruments into the music.

Saw the tread Jeff, and your switch is also getting there, the Tandberg was very popular in DK, I had a reel to reel back in the 60th but dont remember if it was Tandberg or B&O. Now you will have to start thinking about getting the rest in shape.

Hello Søren,

The McIntosh switch was a real challenge with most leads responding that they didn’t have the part, or simply ignoring me entirely.

I finally found an enthusiastic and HELPFUL gentleman in Quebec who has two such switches, said he was happy to send them to me gratis, but just my luck, with the part found, my emails to him (5 of them) all arrive blank.

A fellow BeoWorld member also posted two switches, one appears to be a NOS Honeywell switch which I would prefer, but I haven’t moved on this with the deal pending in Quebec.

As for the Tandberg, I purchased it new in 1971and it has seen very little use in the last few years. Once the PLAY problem was resolved I have been absolutely delighted with the exceptional sound quality…. I had forgotten how truly superb it is.

I also got my Seeburg jukebox sounding like it should with the correct Pickering cartridge. All these years I had such mediocre sound with the Thorpe cartridge that came with it. I was told that when new, it probably sounded OK, but that the Thorpe did not age well.

As for getting down to fixing things, I couldn’t agree more. With my BM4500 out of commission, the 4400 functioning, but questionable, the McIntosh grounded temporally, and now the most unwelcome failing notice from the BM2400 things are getting a bit out of hand.

The Honeywell switch is a standard micro switch, you should be able to get that from a supplier in Canada, just make sure its 220V and at least 5 amp.

OK Søren,

I gotta ask as you have mentioned this on several occasions, what are cubas? I had assumed that you were smoking Cuban cigars, but this sounds like a drink. Possibly Cuban rum?

I don’t know anything about Cuban products post 1959 as they are banned in the US. And living so close to Ybor City, which is entirely Cuban didn't help me any as….. well they are a different breed of cat. If a Cubano liked you, they would speak English, if not you had better darn well speak Spanish. But either way Cubanos don’t talk about Cuba or anything remotely Cuban. (Except for their WONDERFUL Cuban sandwiches.)

So my friend, what are these cubas you keep talking about?

A Cuba, is a drink, can be made from nearly any alcoholic beverage mixed with coca cola, or the copy, pepsi. My favorite is 1/3 Bacardi Ron Añejo, a lot of ice and 2/3 Coca Cola, the Ron Añejo takes the sweet off the Coke, some people prefer a cuba from brandy or whisky or whatever. But with my mix you cant go wrong. It is known to make women more funny and sniggering, men gets brave and gets a better eyesight, after 5 cubas all women looks better.

You know Søren, I find this just a little bit irritating. (NOT you, the situation!)

I mean McIntosh doesn’t have any of these switches and they referred me to Audio Classics which after the initial “hello” never responded again. (Customer service at its worst.)

I finally find an enthusiastic guy in Quebec who wants to send me two gratis, but his email dies.

Then a fellow BeoWorld member in Finland sends me a picture of his switch, and you identify it as one commonly found in any electronics store.

Why on Earth didn’t McIntosh just enlighten me with this information? Uggggggh! Super Angry

Always depending of the knowledge and want to help level, of the person attending. What you got is the, as I call it, mañana syndrome, to say no we dont have and dont know any solution to your problem is easier and faster. To say I dont know and let me investigate and get back to you, for some people is very difficult, like they have to admit a lack of knowledge or admit they are stupid. I always taught my pupils, there are no stupid questions, only stupid people that dont want to answer.
