Thanks for all your help. I think we identified the root cause why things are not working. I cannot get the audio-related functions of my BV to work.
TV, DVD and DTV all work and I can select them. For whatever reason, I cannot select CD or RADIO. When I click on them on the Beo4, the BV does not react.
I tried what you suggested above to switch into V-OPT 2 mode. When pressing "red-list", the TV turns off (if I do this, while in the same room), but I can of course still do what you suggest on the Beo4. After doing this, the Radio button is still not working.
Any more ideas?

Mmh, I can confirm that the red light turns briefly off and then on again. So, it looks like the option change has been successful.
Unfortunately, I still cannot switch to RADIO. The BV7 has a small led to show what source is selected. TV, DTV and DVD show up when selecting on the Beo4 or One. When clicking Radio or CD, nothing shows or changes.
Ah, I think it is working now. Not fully how I want it to, but let me play around a bit first and see what can work and what cannot and then revert.
On a separate note, I also tried to connect a ML/NL to my BV5. I can see the ML/NL on the app, but when selecting "product setting", I only getting a spinning wheel forever. This does not happen with the BV7. Any idea what may be causing this?
elephant: steve1977: LINK button exists on Beo4. but not possible to add on Beoremote One? In my setup RADIO starts the BeoSound 4's radio playing on the BV8 (with screen powered off). LINK then RADIO accomplishes nothing (maybe my A or V options are wrong). N-RADIO starts TuneIn (which is what I wanted).

The BeoSound 4 is analog, this is the difference between both our setup's. I do not have any analog source anymore.

I am starting to make great progress thanks to all the folks contributing to this thread. Big thanks!
It appears that it may not be possible to play DLNA to ML/NL. This may be a imitation and just not possible?

I think I know what the issue is on above. The ML/NL connected to the BV5 actually was a demo unit. I believe there is some setting (e.g., a fixed IP) set. Is there an easy way to do a factory reset?

elephant: steve1977: It appears that it may not be possible to play DLNA to ML/NL. This may be a imitation and just not possible? I believe it is. Whilst assisting you I have been trying to get my Essence to access my music on iTunes via a DLNA server on our MacMini. I had tried this half heartedly over the years but today devoted several hours to it. So yes, I can DLNA access music files from a variety of sources using a Plex Media Server with DLNA enabled. And I can pass them over the NL/ML bridge using beomusic or a beo4.

Thanks, this is great to hear. My NL source is an A9 (not an Essence). I successfully can play DLNA on my A9 in a similar setup to the one you have set up.
When I go to the A9 settings menu and then select "your content / sources in local list", I can only see 5 sources: Music, Line-In, TuneIn, Bluetooth, QPlay and Spotify. "Music" appears to be Deezer. Does your Essence show additional sources or is one of them associated with "DLNA"?
elephant:Conversely the BeoMusic talking to the NL/ML only sees the possibility of a linked music stream (which could be Deezer, or DLNA if that's what is playing).
Got it, seems the Essence and the A9 works the same and I should also get DLNA to get working this way. MUSIC covers both Deezer and DLNA? TuneIn can be selected separately?
This is not an issue when playing on the A9 and distributing. It does make a difference when I want to play only on the BV (but not on the A9). When doing so, I can select TuneIn or I can select MUSIC (which then is whatever plays last between DLNA or Deezer on the A9?).
Thanks again for all the help by all of you. It is working now.
I am still struggling to fully understand how to effectively use the beomusic app. Unclear how to start one without the other to join. Etc. But there is probably nothing you can help me as this is about getting to know it. Also, I now understand why some forum members have been complaining about the beomusic app. It is indeed not the most user-friendly, but I am sure this will eventually improve over time.
What I would still need help is how to do a factory reset of the ML/NL. My second ML/NL (demo unit) appears to be fixed to an IP that is not part of my network. Assume that a factory reset may solve this?
Hi Steve,
Good to hear you have things working.
To reset the other converter, you need to use the setup button which is located next to the LED on the socket panel.
Using a paperclip, press and hold the button until the LED has flashed a certain number of times (see table below), then release the button and the LED will flash rapidly to show it is waiting for confirmation - briefly press (and release) the button again within 3 seconds to confirm the selected action. The documentation doesn't say you need to, but I always wait 10 seconds or so after doing this and then power cycle the device to reboot it.
For example, to reset the converter to factory settings you need to hold the button until the light has flashed 5 times, release the button, then press it again quickly to confirm - I suspect this reset option also resets the networking back to DHCP but if not you can do this separately using the '9 flashes' option.
0 - Initial escape - Do nothing (before LED indicator flashes first time)
1 - A Slave (Audio Slave) - ML Role seen from Master Link side
2 - A Master (Audio Master) - ML Role seen from Master Link side
3 - V Master (Video Master) - ML Role seen from Master Link side (default setting)
4 - AV Master (Audio Video Master) - ML Role seen from Master Link side
5 - Factory default - Delete configuration - factory default installed
6 - Power up Web - Power up Web server (main processor power up)
7 - Reset password - Admin and User password to factory default
8 - Fixed address - Enables the default fixed IP address
9 - Dynamic address - Enables DHCP - dynamic IP address
10 - ML Power safe - Not implemented
11 - Escape - Do nothing (LED indicator red)
Hope this helps,
Martin.
Thanks. Finally got the chance to try it out. It is working and I love it. Much appreciate all your help along the way.
There remain two smaller things that are not working yet, but may technically not be possible" (1) cannot distribute Deezer from A9 to ML/NL. while at the same time playing another source on the A9; (2) Cannot "distribute" Line-In from A9 to ML/NL.

As elephant has mentioned, none of the products have the ability to provide multiple sources simultaneously so (1) is indeed a technical limitation. I would however expect the A9 line in to be distributed. Is the issue that you can't select this source to map within the converter or that you just end up with silence when you do so?
Many of the products have a delay setting for the line in - you can either set no delay when this is necessary, because the line in source is from a television for example where a delay would cause sync issues - the trade-off being that it cannot then be distributed to other products, or you can accept a delay and the line in should then be distributable to other products. Maybe see whether you can find this setting on the A9 using the beosetup app.
Thanks for your quick replies. Actually, I think you solved it. Let's hope that a future NL product will allow to distribute to more than one source. Would be a nice feature to have. Alternatively, a very expensive solution to this issue would be to attach an Essence to each of the ML/NL converters?
You also answered my question about the line-in and why it is not working. My A9 is actually attached to a non-B&O television via line-in. Would have been nice to distribute the sound from this television to other rooms, but understand this is not feasible unless I'd have the video go out of sync.
I am starting to understand the very major difference between a "real" NL-capable BV and an old model using the ML/NL. The ML/NL can play from sources, but does not (1) have own online sources, (2) cannot join other NL devices (but need to play them from another device). The second appears minor, but is a major inconvenience. When I have 3 real NL devices, I can play on one and then just press "+" in the beomusic app. With 2 NL devices and a ML/NL-connected device, I cannot have the ML/NL join, but need to select it on its own and play the same stream.
Do you think the second short-coming may be addressed in a future SW update? Or is it a HW issue?
I encountered the same (?) problem. On the NL side I've got an Essence MK2 and an A6, on the ML side a Beovision 10 connected. I distribute the sound from the Essence to the Beovision 10. In the beomusic app I checked for the A6 the "Allows you to join a multi-room experience" Flag (settings --> beolink --> join setup), and for the Essence (from what I stream the music) I put the name of the ML/NL converter in "link to other products" and checked the "integration setup" flag.
When I then try to join the A6 with the already running Beovision by using the beomusic app (press "+") or by pushing the "Join" Button on the Essence Remote, the A6 joins the group but without playing the music on both devices, hence it stops the audio output on the Beovision.
Can anybody confirm this behaviour? Or is my setup wrong?
Many thanks for any help.
Sorry i don't have any answers. I have just joined and only posted my 1st. questions about 1/2hr. ago.
I would also be intereste in ML Converters - sending signal without wires.
I am currently trying to get my 8000 Amp./Tuner and other old, but great gear repaired. If i can hopefully get my 8000 repaired, can it be made to run MS-150 Speakers without having to use wires?
Also, is there any way (wired or not) that i can use MS-150 Speakers with my CRT Advant T.V.?

Yes to both of the above!
But it will require two additional amps, one for each speaker. And a transmitter-receiver combo.
It would be a bit of a waste though having the most powerful output stage ever made by B&O for a Beomaster, just sitting idle in the BM8000!
Are you sure wiring can't be done? If it could,- you could simply hook up your Avant to the BM8000.
The BM8000/MS150 is an extremely potent combo when teamed up.
What are your Beolink settings in the beomusic app for all the NL products (Settings --> Beolink) ?
riverstyx:If so you were correct to configure the converter as Audio Master (I see that in a later post you have tried A/V master - so change this back if you have not already done so). Importantly, the BV must be configured as v.opt 2 in this setup as otherwise it will ignore all non video commands.

I am now getting the second ML/NL connected to my BV5. Same way to set up or anything to keep in mind given I alraedy have the BV7 connected via ML/NL with above configuration? The BV5 and BV7 are not connected via ML at the moment (and I don't plan to do so).
I have setup the second ML/NL to A-Master and also changed the BV5 to v.opt-2. But not working yet.

Configuration should be identical to the one that is connected to your BV7 (other than giving it a different name).
steve1977:I have setup the second ML/NL to A-Master and also changed the BV5 to v.opt-2. But not working yet.
Try switching both the BV5 and the converter off at the mains, then back on if you haven't done so already.
A note if that happens to any of you :
today my beovision (bv8 connected to the nl/ml) disappeared from the multi room view of beolink app... I tried all possible settings in the converter, tried multiple reboots of bv and blc... Nothing happened, the beovision was still invisible... But everything was working, like "joining" ml products from the beovision to listen to them.
So, the thing that made the beovision reappear has been to delete the Beomusic app and reinstall it from the app store!

steve1977:and yet one more question. audio played from the ml/nl to the BVs plays stereo (two BLs), but not using the 5.1. in principle, that's ok as most of my audio is also stereo. was wondering whether I could still play stereo to all 5.1 speakers from ml/nl?
Any thoughts whether possible to activate the full 5.1 setup?
Any idea whether 5.1 is possible when distributing to ML/NL?
Simple answer - no it isn't!
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
As mentioned before, I distribute the music from the essence mk2 (deezer) to the Beovisions 10 connected speakers. After approx. 30 minutes the music stops playing and the Beovision 10 gets off.
Does somebody encountered the same problem?
many thanks for any hint
Millemissen:Simple answer - no it isn't! MM
Got it. Everything is now set up and I understand what is working and what is technically not feasible / wanted.
One last question: it feels a bit weird that the ML/NL cannot "join" in the same way as "rea" NL devices can. I.e., there is no "plus" next to the ML/NL within the Beomusic app. Anyone knows whether this is a hardware limitation or whether this may become feasible with a future firmware or software update?
no simple answer.
the "+" will depend on your system en settings
f.e.
ML/NL converter as "passive link" in a NL system; you will get a "+"
ML/NL converter set up as "Audio Slave" in a NL system, you won't get a "+"
