When I was 14 and living in Docklands E14 with my parents, I managed to convince them to buy a Bang and Olufsen TV and video. It was an LX2802 and I remember it had wood panelling... :-)
God knows where that TV is now!
That's a difficult one Michael. It's finding someone who is prepared to pay a HUGE amount of money for what is a second hand TV.
I know that when I sold my BV6 at 18 months old, the dealers ran a mile - B&O of York didn't even return my calls. In the end, I sold it for a quarter of what I paid for it :( And it was in a truly immaculate condition. The only reason that I sold it was because I was buying a student house and I didn't want any sort of mortgage/loan.

A student house for £750?
Bargain!
do Avants come up for sale often though? There may be a market but a purchase of that kind may need the reassurance of a reseller as opposed to a private sale. Hence a trade-in perhaps.

True, but hard to say how much an Avant drops in price already. It is still up to date and my TV is from this year and with warranty until 2021.
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
Michael, go for the new Panasonic 4K player. It'll last you. Even i'm coming round to the 4K Blu-Ray idea because of the fact that you get a MP4 version for your iPhone/MacBook along with the UHD disc. I wouldn't in a million year recommend a Samsung player. They are cheaply made, plastic trashy units. The Panasonic has some of the best components and there is no reason that it shouldn't last 10+ years. My VCR is 17 years old and is as good as day one. That's quality components for you!
Chris Townsend: Wait 3-4 years for when the Mk2 of whatever is coming out. I love my 7-55 but I am very aware of how good UHD and HDR will be in comparison, but just not yet.

Heard a rumor that there will be an AVANT MKII in June, that support HDR and Deep Color.
With that and an UHD Bluerayplayer, the picture should be as good as its gets.

@Hiort,
yes - the rumour says June, although I doubt, that we will see them just before the summer vacations start off.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
No wooden TVs.
SHEFFIELD:No wooden TVs.
yes!
No wooden TV's but what about the V1 replacement ?
Millemissen:that we will see them just before the summer vacations start off.
So, no Timber Vision ?
Michael:In the new price list Avants are priced in two specifications, with aluminum or steel back? I have no clue what that means but the aluminum seems more expensive. Perhaps it means that the wings (the aluminum plates on the back is replaced with either steel or just plastic on the cheaper model?).
Beofan2: No wooden TV's but what about the V1 replacement ?
No answer, I guess.....

Stay tuned - and you can't avoid having your answer.

Well no way as there's ZERO comparison between OLED and LCD for a TV. If you see the two side by side, you'll immediately see the difference. So wait until next years OLED offering if it's the ultimate picture that you are after.
mjmedlo:Precisely. Black back is cheaper than aluminum back
Black back is cheaper than aluminum back
Interesting. It is also a quite big difference in price (3000 Danish kroner, or 3700 Swedish kroner). I have the aluminum model, since it was the only one offered in the beginning - but the aluminum vibrates loudly when the internal subwoofer play loud noises. It's a bit annoying. Perhaps the plastic would work better but I guess it can be fixed with some furniture pads as well. But anyway I would probably have gone for plastic if the option was available back then. Aluminum looks sweet but it is on the back to be honest.

Agree. I rather meant as good as it gets with the LCD panel.

I was told by a B&O dealer that the incoming Avant MKII will be a software upgrade only and that there will be no changes to the physical design or performance. No OLED (LG screen) until 2017.
Does anyone have anything more concrete?
I don't know if the mk1 can be upgraded by software. But yes the mk2 will supposedly have more in common with android and is just a operating system change rather than any performance or design improvements.
Unless anyone knows any more?
Have the dealers seen it already?

My Avant got many updates last year and this year? None as of yet. I would assume they are working on a bigger software patch for it.I'd be interested to see if they would add a "night shift" mode as in f.lux for mac or in the new iOS. After getting used to that I keep changing my TV to film mode in the late evenings to get it into a prepare for sleep mode. I know it changes with colour temperature of the room but it is still quite blue compared to the night shift mode (or f.lux).
