That could not be said better - it's a crazy (Beo)world we are living in.

My Yamaha DVD-S1800 upscales old Bond movies to 1080p with great picture. I enjoy old movies often and it looks beautiful thanks to a faroudja chip inside. I think it will look nice on 4K too. Life is about more than pixels tough. The bigger problem is: How do I make the large foot become invisible in my living room? And how do I move it? It is almost as heavy as I am!

Haha :D. Well the new remote is OLED I think, better than nothing! And mine is going to be engraved with my name on the back. I will hate that when I have to sell it in the future .

I just thought that I should order a pair of 3d glasses for my new avant but I am not sure if I should buy the ones from B&O or if I could use another kind of glasses? I remember hearing about XPAND glasses, perhaps they work? B&O released their own design late last year and perhaps they are more comfortable. Anyone here who have tried them all?
Michael: Not sure you are responding to this Michael or the other Michael here :). But yes I also have an Avant on the way and it is scheduled for delivery on the 19/20th but I don't know really. This is a nice way to buy a TV! )

I can think of many other non nice ways to buy a TV. Congrats.
How was the launch for everyone else ?
b&o need to get some younger customers, at 29 I was one of the youngest at the launch at our dealer, which was kinda disappointing. One of the guests asked if the TV was fitted with a DVD player. Average age was maybe 65 and by the sounds, they wanted a 32 inch sized screen. LOL
Maybe it was because I went to the one in the countryside...
Also, when we were talking to each other before they unveiled it the dealer was convinced that nobody had seen the TV before, until I opened my big mouth and described to him in detail what the TV looks like. :-/ Wish I hadn't done that, he looked so disappointed.
We didn't have a launch here in Australia as far as I know.
B&O do have younger customers, they just need to invite them to their gigs as long as they don't steel the dealers thunder :-) LOL
Just wait another 35 years and you'll want a 32 incher too :-)

After the twin fiascos of our Beovision 7 (which wasn't as good as we'd hoped) and our Beo5 (which has been damaged and no-one seems interested in helping us get it repaired), Mrs. S and I has pretty much decided that our next televison would not be a B&O, especially after evaluating a few 4K sets by other manufacturers that were half the price with picture quality that was as good if not better than the Beovision 11 that we briefly considered.
And then we happened to be passing our local B&O store on Saturday and thought we'd pop in for a look at this apparently huge new TV with the Bose Wave Radio grille, the strange stand and the pointless new remote control. Verdict?
Styling - superb and nowhere near as big in the flesh as we'd expected.
Picture - fabulous
Sound - very good (but, to be fair, not as good as the original Avant)
Stand - absolutely brilliant!
New remote - gorgeous.
Controversial grille - very stylish and nothing like a Bose in the flesh.
Overall - we want one!
I hate you , B&O....

This is brilliant! Get one you too! By the way, think about all the sensors in a Beovision, the 4K sets you saw in the store probably looks attractive there, but it won't adapt to your home setting (that changes every minute every day).

Off-topic: What issues do you have with your BEO5?
Learned today that the "fixed" wall bracket for the Avant is actually only a manual bracket that you can swing out from the wall by hand. The mechanics are still quite complex, hence the price. The name "fixed" is clearly misleading.

today the dealer we happened to visit (seemingly /otherwise very knowledgable) answered on our question whether the "fixed wall bracket" is kinda like the fixed bracket for the BV11 (so TV can be moved into a xx degree angle, manually instead of motorized):
"no, it's just a truly fixed wall mount".
Upon our query: "what if you want to exchange say the Apple TV?" he said, "well, you'd have to demount the TV". However, he did say that none of the dealers have actually seen / put hands on the wall mounts ... (and these would only arrive in June anyway); so he could -hopefully !!! - be wrong

My dealer had the fact confirmed by B&O HQ. Its sounds ridiculous that it would be impossible to swing out the TV from a wallbracket that cost some 650 euro.
I can also confirm that the startuptime is very fast. The Avant reveal the picture right after the speakers are in position and the electronic curtain is opened (think the standby settings where not in energy save mode or anything like that)
Also noted that the speakers that expand to the right and left are moving synchronized with the electronic curtain. Very neat indeed,
PapaJustify: Off-topic: What issues do you have with your BEO5?
We think a brat belonging to one of our visitors dropped it. There's a tiny dink in the metal surrounding the buttons but the main issue is the volume control which I suspect took the brunt of the blow and is now very stiff. Initially it was so bad that you had to press down so hard with two fingers to turn it that it pressed the buttons underneath at the same time!
Our local B&O dealer had a go at taking it apart and re-setting the buttons and it is better than it was but still needs two fingers to turn it, rather than a simple sweep of the thumb, like it's supposed to. All I want to know is how much a complete new keypad would be for me to fit myself (I missed one on eBay for £35 which was annoying!) or even a price to have the keypad replaced, but no-one seems interested.
Frankly, the whole software reconfiguration thing is a pain in the neck and it's effectively just an on/off switch and volume control for our (old) Avant now. It was perfect when we had the BV7 and could use it to its full capabilities but the Avant doesn't support our new Set Top Box and when I asked the dealer to put it back to Avant configuration when the BV7 went, they didn't add all the buttons I wanted so I just ended up buying another Beo4 instead.
It's a lovely item but I'm not sure it was B&O's finest moment. The fact that the Beo6 is now discontinued says it all really, plus I noticed that I NEVER saw one being used in any B&O shop - they always stuck with the Beo4! As said to the dealer when we went to see the new Avant - I'm not buying a BeoRemote One until I see YOU using one daily!

The configuration can surely be fixed. I don't know about the keypad though. Spare parts for the BEO5/6 have become rather rare around here as well. I will see what I can find out and get back to you.

My V1 starts up in about 10 seconds - it's all about settings.
then you are not a green guy, think of the trees save energy

I begin to grow in the new Avant, listened again this morning (alone) and viewed. Really enjoyed the time I spend at the dealer.
it should be a hit for B&O, dealer has already sold five since last Thursday. Two to new customers, and one together with a pair of Beolab 18.

My wife and friends already thought I was a bit anal retentive with our stuff regarding keeping it all pristine. I placed index cards on top of a pair of speakers once which stated do not place drinks here. They thought I was nuts (maybe some of you will think the same as well). It would take a lot for me not to freak out if I noticed a guest (child or not) fiddling with my gear.
So when's the software update coming for the avant / bv 11 ?

Or like the A3 be rendered inoperable by a specification change by Apple ... roll on the ATV 4 ?

It did not look as special compartment. They probably just left some space there, to put something there. I guess a SSD drive would fit there as well.
Is it like the BV11 where the compartment is actually for fixing the hinge/ motor (so once you have selected your left or right hinge you get a spare compartment on the opposite side? Or TV's on a central floor stand seem to have two spare compartments?)
As mentioned in a BV11 thread, the Apple TV, according to the Apple support forum, is designed to be horizontal (which is why Apple do not provide a stand for it to stand up on edge). So you have the risk of overheating in a small space, and the additional risks of whatever goes on with the drive standing vertical instead of horizontal. According to this forum, many seem to work OK, whilst others do not operate correctly until taken out of the BV11 compartments. My Apple TV is horizontal and away from the TV.

The Avant does not have hinge compartments on the sides just a central fixing. I think the space is bigger on the avant and for both an Apple TV and external hard drive. (Havent seen it yet tough). I don't think the Apple TV will overheat standing up, Apple designed it with a rubber foot to stand on and thats of course what they recommend. It is based on the A5 processor thats inside both iPhones and iPads so heat is not an issue. Altough some people with BV11 seem to have been having some problems I have not experienced any of it on my V1 with a Apple TV inside.

Yes, I have intermittent screen refreshing/blank screens with the Apple TV in the back of the BV11. Strangely though, if you reboot the Apple TV before watching a movie, these issues are far less frequent. Never happened with the same Apple TV connected to the BV10-46, nor does it occur in the other room, where I have a BV10-32. Don't know if that means it's affected by the rear of the BV11 or it's simply a BV11 issue.
As someone rightly says above, Apple could completely change the design of the forthcoming 4K Apple TV, which could cause a few issues if you want to store it in the back of your Avant (or BV11).
