I quite agree.
In 2 to 3 years time this tv will hopefully be awesome .
BeoGreg:Am I wrong saying that Avant early adopters majority didn't have a BV11 before it ? Saying the picture and sound are excellent is one thing, but compared to what ? A 5 years old sony, a 12 years old Avant ?
BeoVision LX5500 from 1991.

Two BV8s which is why I am giving the Avant serious consideration ...
Inhibitors on the decision (apart from cash flow) are how to transition from/integrate with the BV8s -- which is one reason for doing a bunch of wiring simplification that past two weekends.
I have now totally disconnected the RF modulator for link room support - and I have run a split aerial connection to the two BV8s - downside (or is it an upside ) is I have lost Foxtel support in the link room, and unfortunately our preferred channel's signal strength has enough drop-off to become unusable. I shall have to dig out the RF Modulator's installation instructions, and see if I can simply repurpose it as a signal amplifier ...
And I am looking forward to the official Australian launch next week ...
BeoNut since '75
A new software update came today with no info(?) but it might have updated with gui on 4k - Im too tired to get a hdmi cable and try with my macbook pro now. I hope it deals with the colour temperature sensor also. update 1: Nope, the sensor issue is still apparent, still sucks. Setting room adaptation to basic makes it a little better (I might be wrong). The temperature sensor is not very good - yet - I hope B&O will improve this. My screen is going brighter/darker in crazy ways - very easily to spot on paused images it just goes up and down, up and down... update 2: GREAT, there is a GUI/OSD on UHD(4K) now, and electronic curtains(!) BUT pixelated - obviously not 4K rendered but surely FHD OSD - running on native 4K/UHD without any antialiasing (which it has on FHD sources). This makes it choppy/pixelated and I am actually surprised they "cheated" like this but I hope this is just a rush job to have a OSD to show in stores in the mean time instead of nothing. It´s not that bad and not very obvious so I don't think many will even notice - it looks okey but I´d _like_ if it was proper UHD, it should be easy to fix. Picture included below. (NOW I have to sleep! update 3: okey, 4K is really beautiful! Watched some 4K on youtube and wow it is lovely. Flappo, if you ever find yourself in Båstad this summer, please come by and be positively surprised. Not only by 4K footage but also about the scaling of other sources (which might be better in this software actually). update 4: HOME MEDIA is not working anymore. It takes very long to find a DLNA-server if it even does and when it does the TV crashes and reboots - takes about a minute or two. Big issue since I have a lot of media that I access this way. I have just used wifi but I am going to connect a network cable instead anyway. I don't expect it to work better tough. update 5: now a boot screen/splash screen with the same flashlight-effect as on beoplay V1 but with the BANG & OLUFSEN logo. Not sure I like it as it was discrete without any logo before - nice and subtle with the moving stand. I would prefer an option to choose if I want the start up logo or not. other: My avant 55 won't show my Apple TV in the source list on HDMI1, I have to select it from the Beoremote one to get it to show the source in the source list. If I don't then I can only see the built in sources (TV-TUNER, RADIO, HOMEMEDIA, WEBMEDIA, WEBBRADIO (two B? decide on one spelling), YOUTUBE, SPOTIFY and DEEZER).):
Beolab 50, Beolab 8000 x 2, Beolab 4000 x 2, BeoSound Core, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound Century, BeoLit 15, BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay P2, BeoPlay H9 3rd Gen, BeoPlay H6, EarSet 3i, BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40, BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)
I got the latest software update. Unfortunately no improvement with the motion issues. I put on the Star Trek (2009) Bluray and it is still as juddery as ever. On default settings it actually gives me a headache. If anyone with an Avant has this Bluray, take a look. With all the camera movement and people running around it really shows up the problem as clear as day. (And on any other TV i have, it works just fine. )
i'll wait for mk 3 , thx
Flappo: i'll wait for mk 3 , thx
Honestly Flappo, you only make me sad nowadays and its just frustrating that you stand in the way of progress. Things are never perfect when they are new, they have to be polished and that is what is happening slowly. mk3 - yes you wait for that but this is software and it can be dealt with.I wish B&O let their developers talk directly with customers as myself but unfortunately they don't. The only thing I can do is to tell B&O about the things I want to change and then they will forward to the developers. So your mk3 will be better - thanks to us.
elephant:We are spreading our love around we were in a different suburb picking up an XC60 to test drive and so we walked around the corner to see the new B&O store and take our 3rd look at the Avant "Oh look" said she/we, "the store is modelled on the BeoLab 18s"

BRILLIANT!!!!!!
B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

KMA:It will be HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 later this year when B&O releases the software upgrade for Avant. As of now, it's HDMI 1.4 with HDCP 1.4. HEVC won't be coming to Avant's internal media player, it requires a hardware upgrade. But you'll be able to use an external source for H.265 / HEVC playback.
Slight problem with 4K Bluray..

I truly hope so.
Your article was from January the 4th, mine the 2nd of May
Raeuber:Bluray 4K will need H.265 / HEVC decoding. I don't know if a 4K Bluray player will do this job or the 4K TV is responsible for decoding. If the latter you can't watch 4K blurays on Avant (if KMA's update info is correct).

Chris, I can't go too public on this (note my public liability warning about forum posts, in another thread), but I really wouldn't take what TR says as gospel. I know these guys well having worked for them for three years.
TR put a lot of gossip, exaggeration and non-news online, to get as much SEO as possible.
ie. it's not the most credible source for concrete tech news.
One of the reasons for the industry moving to 4K and 8K was to combat piracy. A 4K film needs GBs of data and is hard to stream, forcing many users to switch back to a physical disc. The film industry makes far more from a physical disc than it does via renting your moving via an Apple TV. If they had their way, they'd prefer the disc over streaming.
Good Grief , you really think a a forum like this would affect sales of a company the size of Bang & Olufsen?
Hahahaha
GET A LIFE
Thanks Kallas,
nice to see a positive post on the Avant.
Have fun - enjoy.
I wish I could afford one.

I am not sure if this gives Flappo more oxygen
However it does mentioned B&O ... and of interest is the panel's discussion on what level to design their sound systems for ...
Representatives from six leading TV companies gathered for the "What You Can See" panel during the CE Week expo. Tim Alessi from LG, Scott Ramirez from Toshiba, Dan Schinasi from Samsung, Jim Sanduski from Sharp, Brian Siegel from Sony and Ben Verbraak from Bang & Olufsen discussed what they (and their consumers) believed to be the most vital features in 4K TV sets.
Anyone heard of Ben before ?
Is he the Geoff Martim of video ?

44 minutes long !
MW1389JVPjQ
But it is worth spending the time on it, because lots of the themes discussed on the forum are adressed in these 44 minutes.
I did wait to see it, untill I had time to AirPlay it to my V1-baby - rather than watching it on the iPad. It has great picture quality.
And it is nice to see that B&O has got a place amongst the big manufacturers such as Sony, LG....

B&O product history since 1991: Ridiculously long to list in a signature.
OLED is the future LCD with LED backlighting is a mere stopgap until they get production costs down. Here's a a review of the new LG 4k oled , it's their new reference TV beating the pioneer kuro even.

If the avant had this technology , Id buy one tomorrow
How about some 'crowd sourcing' - for a BeoLed tv
Hey Flappo --
just a heads up - that LG is not a 4k TV.
Sounds awesome though regardless - I am thinking OLED is going to be the only way to go in not too long!
Update on my order of a Beoremote One:
Dealer called me last week about my order for the new remote: Although he could order the new remote in the system it was not delivered last week...
He made a telephone call to now why. And the explanation was: currently has the factory no ability to deliver additional remote's, the production number of this new remote is just enough to meet the needs of the new avant. Delivery of additional remote's could take months or maybe earlier. They try to do their best. Pity!
My guess:
"Believe nothing you read and only half of what you see, let your ears tell you the truth."
Chris:Delivery of additional remote's could take months or maybe earlier. They try to do their best. Pity!My guess:Either selling of the avant is huge Or they make remotes somewhere in a garage

Don't forget to build-in an Olive One sort of 12 month delay on delivery!

Why are we chasing higher resolution/more pixels/4K?
We should be chasing 'better picture quality'.
Just a few words about BeoRemote One. One big disadvantage is that I must look at it to use it. The BeoLink 1000 and Beo4 I can use in the dark TV room. I know exactly which button to use and where they are. On the new one it's just one big plastic surface and I can't feel which row my thumb is on.
The logic of the new remote is great, but I miss sitting laidback in the coach with "The Power" in my hand and using it without lifting my arm.
Daniel: The logic of the new remote is great, but I miss sitting laidback in the coach with "The Power" in my hand and using it without lifting my arm.
Good point. It's strange how I seem to hold the Beo 4 90% of the time when watching TV or movies! Perhaps we will get used to it and it will be the same? Practice makes perfect! I do like that the new remote is lighter, although some say they miss the weight so we can't all win!
