I will be in San Jose next week around the various Apple conferences ... looking forward to lots of AP2 improvements (of course Apple may take 359 days to get through teething problems!).

Anyone else going ?

Should I start a San Jose beer thread ?

Arrange another BeoWorld Beer Bash ?

Jon:

Next time I go shopping I'll get a few bottles and leave one in the cupboard until it's ~18 months old and see what it's like!

After just over a year I finally had the 18 month old bottle last night and was fab 😍 It's bit darker in appearance than usual (like it says on the bottle), and tasted damn good too.

That’s good to hear. I bought six a year ago and have these three left which will be 18 months old in August.

Then I’m going to get one of the youngest I can at the time and do a direct comparison.

Ohhh that sounds like fun! I’ve got a bottle of Tripel Karmeliet (favourite beer at the moment) waiting in the cupboard too - they don’t mention anything on the bottle but I’m intrigued about whether it’ll go the same way as St Stefanus.

This is one of the best IPAs I’ve ever had. Wiper and true are a small artisan brewery from Bristol and this is called Quintet. I’m guessing it has 5 different hops.

This is an odd one called Sunken City. A saison with Sauv Blanc grapes, from the local brewery Insight Brewing using grapes from Ysian Strand.

Weather is warm and muggy with a thunderstorm approaching and Miles Davis Milestones playing as I sit out here and watch it all. Happy Sunday!

Not beer, but I had to take a scotch break while doing my living room remodel. A little Lagavulin 16.

I think the room turned out pretty good...

I don’t know that particular scotch but I agree the room is a great result

In the other shots in the FLASH thread, what’s the movie / screensaver ?

Looks like an HR Geiger scene !

Thanks, I am very much looking forward to using the room more now.

Lagavulin is a very smokey/peaty single malt from Islay.  One of my all time favorites.

The screensaver was actually an aerial view of the city streets in Dubai!

Tracked a bottle down at the shop around the corner Big Smile

It was an 8 year bottle edition from the bicentennial releases.

One left .....

the man behind the counter had only ever tried your 16 yo and said was too peaty for him.

And that 8 yo is said to be not as good .....

It’s AU$95 !

What do you think ?

A good buy ?

A safe investment ?

Price-wise it seems good. It’s £52 in the UK which is broadly the same. Taking into account how far it’s had to travel that’s pretty fair.

It will be big and smoky. If you like ‘em like that (which I do -a lot) then go for it.

At 48% it might benefit from being cut with a drop of water. But that’s up to you of course.

I like both choices Duels !

And I am still thinking about your recommendation on the whisky.

I wonder how many of us (not me) could tick off every dot ... or all the dots in a particular quadrant:

Nor me but it’s an excellent challenge.

Interested to nite they have two that are higher on the smoky scale than Laphroaig, I must seek those out.

Near the Boscodon abbey, France

Organic beer, with barley, malt and... nettle

Very soft, almost sweet, not that much tasty but pleasant.

I have had a bottle of the 8 year Bicentennial, and it is good, but I wouldn't buy it again.  I would hold out for the 16 year.  That is by far my favorite...
