We drank them in the order you see from left to right. There were a couple of 10% + ones in there.

Yes it’s a regular for me too at a local bar where we normally watch rugby. I like it a lot.

This was the raspberry wheat beer. Definitely the pinkest beer I’ve had!

Well, entirely not on the pink spectrum, here is a

local beer called “Tiny Circuit Irish Coffee Stout aged in whiskey-soaked oak barrels with an Ethiopian yirgacheffe dark roast coffee from a local roaster.” And its a Nitro. I’m not sure beer should have so many words in its name/description.

Pretty darn good

Mikkeller’s Hair in the Mail Box.

You need to complete the collection now...

Pale Ale: Stick a finger in the soil

Berliner: Wood will fall down

IPA: Hair in the mailbox

It was spring yesterday and buying IPAs seemed appropriate. Oh well, I still love the snow.

Coincidentally these three are stocked by my local beer shop. I will try the others.

Now this is very interesting. A Bloody Mary porter madevwith Henderson’s relish which for those who don’t know is Sheffield’s equivalent of Worcestershire sauce.

How was it? Seems anchovies in beer might be odd.

Reminds me of a local brewery here a few years ago that harvested the invasive Zebra Muscle from a lake and brewed them with a beer. But that only lasted for a couple days before the regulatory agencies stopped them.

It was very good indeed. This relish is based on spices and garlic rather than anchovies. It tasted a little like a chilli/hot chocolate porter. Spicy with just a hint of the relish.

Here’s a style that’s new to me, A Brut IPA. This is from Surly and it’s called DAF- because it is Dry As F**k or so they say. They add an enzyme to breakdown more sugar, like they would in some imperial stouts.

As I learn more about my new, local surroundings I have been trying to find the best Kölsch (only style of beer really available here in Köln).

Found this a few weeks ago and managed to track it down in bottles. Probably not crafty-enough for the caliber of this thread but I highly recommend it!

Best of an only style available is quite the find. Let’s see more of your Kölsch adventures.

Glad to see that you guys are fans of Kölsch!

I guess I failed to mention that Hellers is one of the best I have found which is strange because precisely zero people have mentioned it here. I only found out about it after discovering it myself on tap at a bar in the area.

Currently my Kölsch rankings are as follows:

  1. Päffgen / Hellers
  2. Malz Mühlen
  3. Peter's
  4. Gaffel
  5. Sünner
  6. Früh
  7. Reissdorf
  8. Sion

Tied for 1st is Päffgen and Hellers. I need to do more research here, haven't been to Päffgen since I discovered Hellers. Päffgen is my real favorite but they do not bottle and the smallest vessel they will sell you is a 10L unit. Hellers is a home run out of the tap or bottle, currently my go-to beer for the house since I can't have Päffgen.

Numbers 4-8 are just plain average. These are the ones that 99% of establishments in or around Köln will be serving. I'm fairly indifferent to them but there they are in my order of preference anyway.

I’m discovering the various bottles proposed by my local brewery, here in the south of France.

Bière de la rade (beer from the bay).

This one is called the torpedo

IPA with a strong taste of lychee

Censored : pale ale, taste of exotic fruits and mango - very fruity

The moray : stout, creamy with touch of roasted coffee and chocolate - nice Smile

Pumpkins Dead : pumpkin ale triple, strong Belgian style beer, quite sweet

Looks like an interesting local brewery! Lychee IPA is a new one to me. Enjoy discovering the rest of their beers.

Exploring Madison Wisconsin on foot this afternoon with a new set of E6s playing some Skip James and stopped by this little neighborhood brewery for an IPA called the “jetpack turtle.” Good times.
