@Seanie
I don't now if bass could be adjusted, hopefully so. The speaker sounds really really good with smooth silky mids but I prefer lesser deeps. This was to dominant for me.
Oh well, a dealers room is not the best to have a listening session and I presume once at home its searching for the best position as with any speaker.
Is it easy placeable and and you can move it easily? Yes, but you have always a power cord, so there must be a socket available nearby. If you lift it it feels that you don't have a plastic cilinder but a quality product in your hands.
Mark-N:It looks like the firmware for the M5 is more advanced than the BeoSounds as it can be paired with the Essence remote.
The connection with the Essence wheel is a must, it gives you the opportunity to place it everywhere in a room. And thats one of the mean reasons I am thrilled about it. Just the opportunity to operate it from a distance which is really a lack on the BS1/2.
In my opinion:
The M5 is a small, very good and enjoyable sounding speaker, it don't need a lot of space, its not to pricey, it has every possibility to use it as a first B&O product to new customers, you can use it with a remote...
This time B&O (BeoPlay) got it right. At least for me.

"The compact speaker's acoustics are capable of both beam direction and beam width control thanks to a new version of the technology from Bang and Olufsen's luxury BeoLab 90." I think this is the first I'm hearing of any reference to the BL90, in respect to integration of the technology within any other B&O product.

The evidence of BL90 technology trickling down is what we have all been waiting for !
(( as I said in the LG OLED thread ... "And hopefully ... new speakers would be able to orient the sound stage to where you are sitting (without any friends ) " ))
I am somewhat surprised it showed up in the M5.
As I recall it, we had ALT go from BL5 > BL3 > BL9 ... and then proliferate across many other Beolab form factors.
I hope your interpretation is correct !

Lely:Dealer showed it to me on Tuesday, the top is too plasticky for me, sound was alright, but I left with a BeoSound 2!

There is no 'BL90 technology' as such.
But there is a lot knowledge about acoustics and hard-/software gained, when develloping that particular speaker.
Part/s of this can surely be used with other speakers/apeaker systems - also with the M5.

i've had a BS2 for a few weeks now, very good all round performer......dont have it in a large room, and its probably overkill for my home office, which is where it is, but its everything i wanted it to be......look great too.....good luck...
Seanie_230:Perhaps I need a Beosound2 as portability it not a requirement
I have a BS1 and compared to the BS2, there quite a difference. BS2 is like a cleaner sounding A6 to me. Bright, with decent bass. BS1 sounds portable. Very good, not great. You can't turn it up loud at all. I like it though as it's movable.
completely agree, nice to have a decent range to chose from.....was just doing a side by side of my A9 and BS2 (i dont have an A6)...very different animals, the A9 is a much bigger sound - yes both have plenty of bass, but setting that aside, the A9 to me is very much worth the extra 350-400 pounds, much more detailed and open ....guess all depends on need i guess.....wouldnt be that happy with a BS2 in my bedroom, where i do some proper listening, while the A9 does a fab job there......and conversely the BS2 is excellent for my (smaller) home office.........re BS1 vs BS2, when i listened to them both, there is clearly a difference, though i expected it to be bigger, but in the end, i didn't need portability, and for the extra money i thought the BS2 was better value, and in the end a better sounding speaker.......
by any chance: does anybody know, if there will be a wall bracket for the M5?
Seanie_230:I like the spec of the BS2 but not sure I like the look as much as the BS1, not hear it yet I know I don't enjoy the sound of the A6 to much Bass, I find Beoplay stuff very heavy on laggy bass

A little to much bass, thats my thought also from the M5. Could it come from the difference in the enclosure between the BSs and Play products, aluminium versus hard plastic. The Kvadrat wool is muting also a lot of high freq. Wonder how it sounds without.

to my surprise, there is, at least to me, no remarkable difference

does anybody knows if there is a correct pictogram for the m5 yet, when used in multiroom? Or should I aim for an bs1/2 to have correct pictograms (like a9/a6)
thanks

I think I prefer the look of the BS2, personally. But I just like the portability of the BS1.
Mind you, showed a mate the new BS1 yesterday and he was distinctly unimpressed with the design, sound or anything! He asked why spent £1000 on a portable device with limited capacity - starting to think he has a point!
Maybe the BS2 is actually better value for what you get, performance-wise.
The A6 isn't too bassy for me Seanie? I've just configured mine so it's set as "corner", plus you can change the bass in the BeoSetup app.
Hi,
I bought the Beoplay M5 for use in my bathroom. But I have the problem, that I always need the Beoplay App to start a source. The M5 doesn't remember the last source.
Only if my Beosound Moment plays music, it is simple to join with just on tap on the top.

Erm, the BS1 is now £1250 at my dealer. Was £995 when I bought it on 31 Dec.
Sorry, but £1250 is mentality a small portable speaker. BS2 is better priced at £1495.
Dealer couldn't get their M5 to work either!
I can't get the Beoplay app to work with it....Only the new Beosound app....Which doesn't have the room adjustment features. :(
M5 stripped and as i mentioned above: no remarkable difference to me with/without canvas
too stupid, to get more than one photo in a post

Is it correct that M5 has no built in sources as e.g A6 has?
So I can not only press the top and play the latest source?
I can only join an exiting source played on another NL device?
That would rule it out as speaker in my bedroom. I just want to tap it to start Tunein, or have it to start using timer.
somebody was kidding you. it's exactly the same except for the soundsettings which are done in the Beoplay app
egges: somebody was kidding you. it's exactly the same except for the soundsettings which are done in the Beoplay app
Spec does not include Tunein. Correct?
mine has TuneIn. it works fine as an alarm in the morning with one of my favorites from TuneIn. and i'm free to listen to another station than e.g. the Essence currently playing

So it does have a timer?
It has TuneIn, but you are not able to start that source from the device like the A6 with a short tap, you always need an app. Hope that a software update will fix this as I don't like to use a phone or tablet in the morning to start the radio in the bath...
It is unclear to me why this function is not implemented.
yes
try it again, marcus. with one finger only it doesn't work, at least two fingers you need. in the B&O video they take four fingers. i hope the top will get less coarsened with time, could be more fine
It does not start TuneIn...
So I understood that you can start TuneIn even if all other sources in the network are off, right? If I have the M5 playing TuneIn (and all other devices off) and then switch the M5 off (so that the power light goes dark) and then start the M5 again with a press on the top, the power light comes on and a plopping sound can be heard (like the A6 and A9) but no music :-( in the BeoMusic App you can see that TuneIn is not startet... Does this work with your device?
By the way, can you connect the BeoPlay app with the M5, after the last SW-Update I can't connect any more.
Thanks and best regards
Marcus
all works pretty well with TuneIn and the M5: alarms, with the e.g. A6, different stations simultaneously on the devices. Beoplay app has sometimes to be started twice: one for bluetooth connection, second for wifi. have all apps and the M5 the latest software? with the wheel i can change sources but can't switch stations within TuneIn
Played with one in store today. MY GOD THIS THING FEELS CHEAP. I thought that plastic feeling wheel at the top was just going to pop right off. Very unimpressed.

Actually, that looks better than the M5!
M5 is a strange beast. Both times I asked my dealer to demo the unit, the reckon they can't get it to work. Got the impression they don't want to demo it!

If they can't demo that, they can't demo any of the new NL-speaker systems either!
Basicly it works just like the rest.
P.S. Tell them that the easiest way to demo it, is to use the bluetooth connection.
