I wonder why Hiort? No danger at all if it is properly installed, shielded and insulated. If the electrics are up to date then any problem would cut out within in hundredths of a millisecond, which is so quick that there's little to no chance of a fire or any other related problem. I have had a complete rewire done in my current property and its all between the plasterboard and original brickwork and 100% certified as safe and legal to UK/European standards. Simon.

Not in the US, either (https://gizmodo.com/5297352/your-wall-mounted-hdtv-probably-violates-electrical-codes). Then again, we build out homes out of very flammable sticks.

FWIW, it wouldn't be compliant in Ireland either. You should have rated cabling to a power socket behind the unit, and a short power cable to plug into it.

Of course none of use would admit this, but I would be interested in knowing what percentage of us BeoWorlders occasionally run a power cable through walls for a clean-looking installation. I wonder how many of us hire an electrician to install power outlets behind each and every wall speaker, tv., etc. I would suspect that very few of us hire electricians to install power outlets behind every speaker and television. I'm not saying that it's not wrong. It's just the practical reality.

My B&O installer has always put over cables in the wall.
Maybe my ignorance, wasn't aware of the potential restrictions etc.
But it looks mighty clean.

I find that quite hard to believe. But then, the cynic in me expects to find most people claiming to be vegetarians to be having late-night hamburger binges at McDonalds wearing dark glasses and using the alias Anastasia Beaverhausen.
Reason being what has been mentioned in the thread already. Mainly firehazard and risk for people getting hurt. Mains has to be run in "tubes" and sufficiently dimensioned leads has to be used inside those. Reason for using "tubes" is that you can rerun or add power cabling if you need, once the walls are done.
The leads need to be terminated into a wall socket or a box. From there you can run the primary cable to the equipment.
In the UK the building regs state:"Where a cable is concealed in a wall or partition at a depth of less than 50mm from any surface it must be enclosed in earth metal conduit (trunking or cable) or installed either horizontally within 150mm of the top of the wall or patition or vertically within 150mm of the angle formed by two walls, or run horizontally or vertically to an accessory or consumer unit."
Normally you run cables vertically from the plug socket in the wall or horizontally between sockets, so you know where the cable is and you don't put a nail through them hanging a picture!

In the Netherlands cabling must be run through a tube! More work, but great if you want to change something as you can pull another cable or set of wires through easliy.

I think that a civil or structural engineer might have a different viewpoint. Building Control would probably want to see calculations.
