Piaf:

I see what you mean, the lyrics are indeed important….. as are the voices. Thank you.

If you enjoy exquisitely sad music may I suggest Fado, hauntingly melancholy Portuguese music? Fado means fate in Portuguese and Fado is the melody of delicious resignation.

Jeff

Once I listened to Madredeus in a live concert at the Oetker-Halle in Bielefeld. Among the 1.000 visitors quite a few Portuguese people. Next evening I watched Lisbon Stories by Wim Wenders at the cinema featuring the group Madredeus.

I recommend the title "Matinal".

Madredeus, what a delicious voice! Very much reminds me of a slightly less melancholy Susanna Rinaldi.

Just get some Amalia Rodrigues. She's done it all and won't be bettered. Then explore if you still feel you need more...

Thanks for the tip - I have browsed her on iTunes ... and I am trying to decide on a cost effective choice Smile

One reason I went for "Rough Guide" yesterday was that it had a range of artists -- and was the equivalent of two CDs

But she was not one of them

Chris Townsend:

"Beam me up" by Pink.

I went today to the store and bought two new records, Adele "19" and Pink "The truth about love". Hearing the Pink double record album the first time, I remembered this thread and am to post right now listening to Pink featuring Nate Ruess "Give me a reason". "Beam me up" is coming up on Side C. Nice coincidence Wink. I´m really blown how the record sounds, being performed by my Beogram 4500 with MMC 2, output through a pair of Beolab 4500. Rich sound, crystal clear with a lot of depth and bass - great Lets have a Party !!!! Although my cats stay sleeping Sleep. Personally, with eyes shut, I would not be able, to distinguish it from a CD.

While writing this, "Beam me up" is spinning on the turntable - wow Smile.

Kind regards,

Rolf

What a nice X-mas gift! Happy sister - mmh, but maybe she might not have the nice set-up of her brother to play the records Whistle?

You can get it here. I would like to order this version - pink vinyl, including CD - but I have it now as it is.

The Amazon Pink have the 13 songs, so it must be the same 2 LP version, bought it, and to get free shipping also Creedence 20 greatest Hits.

Just came in with my nice sister in love, and listening to it right now, new 180 Gr vinyl

The same sweet girl brought also this one, used but in nearly new condition

Just listened to Olivier Messiaen, Messe de la pentecôte II. Offertoire IV Communion (Les oiseaux et le soures) {supported by a couple of trushes outside the church} V. Sortie (Le ven de l'Esprit), interpreted by Sieglind Ahrens.

It was no recording. It was life in the church at a just renovated organ.

That's ending a day full of music by Zoltan Kodaly, J. S. Bach, M. Reger and quite a few more composers.

If you get the chance, listen to Zoltan Kodaly, Laudes organi. This piece of music is showing up choir and organ as well in all their qualities ...

Not Yet Soren, but her daughter does. She wanted a turntable and she got a whole lot more !!! I tried to get her to take a 2400/1900 but when she saw the 1700 she wanted no other. I tried to explain .... but you know how women are !

I went for 30 mile bike ride today I really had no intention of stopping by the record store.  My $6 used vinyl haul.

Hello Søren,

According to Frederick Henry Royce, “The quality [of the work] will be remembered long after the price is forgotten.” Words to live by….. and apparently you do. Shoddy work never benefits anyone.

Frederick must have known my long gone Blacksmith Master Henningsen, a work bad done will always be remembered, the price paid not. The first thing he taught me was cleaning the workshop floor.

Hi Søren,

Oddly enough Mr. Royce was obsessed with the sweeping of the floor, and according to him, there was a right way and a wrong way to sweep. More accurately, there was a right way and a wrong way to do virtually everything.

Still Sir Henry and his partner the honorable Charles Rolls did mange to show the world what British tenacity and attention to detail could produce. Yes - thumbs up

Washing day! At least for my records on a cold and rainy Sunday, around 8 - 9 degrees Celsius at the end of May.

I worked through another series of records not played for at least 20 years, which needed to be cleaned. While doing this, listening to this record:

On the turntable:

After it was ended, I changed to radio. They were coming up with Mike Oldfield "To France". I wondered for the moment, if time really went by as I perceived it, or only being in another place, twenty years backwards Wink.

One of the treasures from my wifes side, cleaned freshly, I listened during the next two cleaning sequences:

Have a nice weekend!

Kind regards,

Rolf

Hi Rolf

As I am in Mexico city, I try to save some shipping costs (and avoid the risk of  items disappearing), I let ship to my family in McAllen TX, and go up there for pick up 2-3 times a year, the Pink LP is now waiting there for me, will pick up in June and report back here.

"O Lord, have mercy ... !"

Nearly Janis' last sung words, before she died. Until now I don't know whether to lough out loud about the hypocrisy she was mocking at or to drop a tear or two about a hidden prayer of an addicted person who cries for her life ...
