Much more keen on the wooden BL18's. I can see what B&O has attempted to do, that is design some speakers that look more like your furniture, than the previous shiny chrome-finished surface. I'm mostly interested in speakers which blend in, rather than stand out like a chrome beacon.

Yes - If you have lots of furniture in dark wood... - which I doubt everyone has...
I don't Wink

-and the BL18's are not less 'shiny chrome' finished (though it is polished aluminum) than the BL 8000's, as far as I can see from the pictures...Whistle

- Will you call that 'less shiny chrome finish' than the 8000's..??? Huh?

Subject : design. Perhaps the new BeoLab 18 sounds good but Torsten Valeur destroyed an Icon. The apprentice student did not surpass his master, on the contrary. His reputation as a great designer is finished. Don't forget, the Playmaker is awful either. Sorry for him ! Jacob Wagner did a nice job with the Subwoofer BeoLab 19 ! Congrats for him. Hoping, this talented designer will work again in the future for Bang & Olufsen.

I agree with you Yes - thumbs up

And I'm not gonna like the BL 18, no matter how good they sound. I have always bought B&O speakers because of the sound AND the design.

If I want ugly speakers with good sound, there's enough of cheaper alternatives on the market...

Thank you Geoff Martin for all of your comments and information. It wonderful that you take the time to participate here, even with the constant negative comments about B and O on this forum.

And speaking of wonderful, I think the new speakers all look wonderful. My only problem is deciding which one(s)  I would like to buy.

Fortunately, despite all the complainers here, many do like the new speakers. B and O's Facebook page is full of comments such as "awesome", "wow", "simply the best", "stunning", "second to none", "very cool", "love it", and "looks great" etc.

So thank you again for your participation here, and the great new products.

Absolutely, and seconded.

Geoff, I have to say your contribution to the forums and the knowledge you share cannot be understated in it's importance and benefit to the membership here, and it most certainly has lead to a much greater appreciation of the inner workings of the B&O products I own, and my pride of ownership and satisfaction with them has only grown in stature accordingly.

Where else can one ask the advice of a trained engineer and musician, with such a wealth of experience and expertise?

I think it's something that B&O needs to be aware of - the appreciation that some of us 'audiophiles' who like to know the finer details and ins and outs of things, - with respect to your contributions, and for which (I know..lol) I repeatedly thank you, but it really does mean a lot.  So thank you again.. Smile

Personally as already stated I like the 'look' of all the new speakers very much, but the 18 just makes me go WOW!

Sorry guys, but I love it!

Kind regards

John.. Cool

I'm glad to see this review gets a lot more positive responses, than that other thread.

The number of complainers is not so bad as it seems. It are the same complainers, that reply with the same sort of message a few times a week.

If you don't like them, everybody gets that. Have your say, stop repeating yourself, and move on.You know who you are! Wink

I don't Wink

I was told by my dealer that they will, eventually, come in three different wood finishes. Oak, teak and another, if I remember correctly. Looks like it's only one wood at launch though. Maybe he was wrong.

If that is aimed at me then I'll say this - as disappointing as you may find it, my opinion is equally as valid as yours or anyone else's here. If I've gotten anything factually wrong then I apologise to all and am willing to be corrected.

As for repeating myself, the same can be said for the habitual flag wavers!! As has been said many times before, this is a forum for discussion and opinion - we dont have to agree, it isn't right or wrong and I shall say what I want when I want and I will only "move on" when I'm good and ready!Smile

Can we get the "country of origin" of the three new products please ?

Some of us are interested in that "detail".

The more I look at the new 8000, the more I whant a pair (in black).

Finaly I think it´s a good idea to keep the old 8000 design. We can keep the design and have a complete new sound.

Like David Lewis once said (lookup the Youtube video of the introduction of he BeoVision 8) "I don't care if people like it or not... I want to provoke.. get people to have a reaction... Even if they don't like it... they talk about it"

Well, that's not an attitude B&O can afford any longer! The don't need people to just talk about their products, they need people to buy their them because they like them.

They may have talked about it, but they certainly didn't buy it.

Shame though - as the BV8 actually has a great picture when running HD...

Suddenly the Beolab 3 and 9 look dated to me, which in itself already justifies the new designs.

The 'new' 8000 is very beautiful, a good job especially because it's so hard to improve a successful classic design.

Lars:

So obvious that we are talking about marketing material.

I assume no one will ever think that the placement is a realistic one?! Anyways, just get the cables running under the floor.

Sooner or later some customer (not on Beoworld) is going to look at one of these marketing pictures, read the 'Wireless' hype, and is going to completely misunderstand what he is buying.

Look at the old marketing photos for the Beocenter 2 mounted on the wall. You would think that the cables were in the support stem, but in reality they had to be exposed in front of the stand and on the wall. That was a particularly poor misrepresentation by B&O, and also lazy design because all they had done was to adapt the table stand instead of providing a proper wall stand so that the cable and plug could come through the stem from a hidden wall duct.

I think that the lesson is to always visit a dealership and take a close interest in whether the systems are wired-up for use or are just on display.

I thought that too. And considering they are possibly the best 2 speakers they made, that's quite an achievement.

The new B&O Magazine is now avaiable in the Apple app store.

Not a catalouge like the old ones - but a magazine.

There's no way the BL3's look 'dated'. They are small, neat, compact. They perform well above their station, too. I'd much rather have the BL3s than the BL17s as rears. Those BL17s are huge and look like an old BBC prop from Blake 7 to me.

Really like the BL19 and 18s, but I'm going to wait for the transmitter for my BL3s, or get another pair of BL3s.

Just compared them to the 8002 in my local dealer. A much bigger, warmer sound to my ears. Bass to spare, and from such a small unit. Amazing

Well that's great news. But how about the midrange? I had problem with listening to vocals on the 8000s before. I just hope they bring out a taller grill to disguise the lens. Otherwise I like the new cone stand, grill and base.

Ps. I think the wood grills and web detailed grills remind me of Balinese furniture.

And as far as subwoofers go the Lab19s are easily the best looking one around. Not a unique design but best looking nonetheless.

I'm wondering how anyone could have issues with vocals and midrange on the 8000s! Midrange and vocal accuracy is one of the areas where they really excell, deep bass I can see not being thrilled by.

Really? I saw and heard them at lunch, at my dealer, wasn't astonished. I wonder if you go in there positively, you hear the positives? If you go in preferring BL3s, you talk yourself in to thinking they aren't great. They are £3.3K with the stands and wireless transmitter, btw. I'd have to be pretty darned convinced to spend £3.3K on them... :)

I'm going to wait to hear the BL18s which will be in on November 30th. I'd rather pay the extra cash and get these. If I want small speakers, I'll stick with the BL3s.

Just stood and listened as the music alternated between the two. To me the 18 was much better. Didn't get to compare the 3 unfortunately.

Are we talking at cross purposes here, was it the 18 or 17 you compared to the 8002 and was it the 17 that Moxxey auditioned??

I only listened to the BL17s. They sounded good, if not excellent, but no better than my BL3s (indeed, I think the BL3s have a crisper sound, which I prefer, due to the ALT).

The BL18 isn't available until November 30th, BL19 in November 5th. Looking forwards to the BL19. It's going to be a beast, I think.

It's not a "beast" - really.  It's just very tight, sharp and responsive - not lazy and "rolly' like the BeoLab 2..

Don't expect it to thunder your trousers off, it's not like that at all.  It's punchy though, and won't disappoint if you own a BeoLab 2.  It's just very different to a BeoLab 2.

You'll see what I mean when you hear it.

Oh! I currently have a BL11 and was thinking of upgrading to the BL19. BL11 is good, but not great. I'll listen to it when it comes in. I imagined it would be a 'beast', purely from the size!

Well I think there has been a serious vacancy  for something in between the(marmite) Bl 2 which I like  and the non event Bl11. Your comparison between the Merc and the Aston hits the spot. Have to wait and get one home for the week end.

I have to agree there.  I think the BL11 is a pretty, yet pointless bit of kit.  If you're buying a subwoofer you want some boom-boom, surely - that's the point of buying a subwoofer ?

I wouldn't say I'm overly impressed with the BL11, but for the price I paid for my two BL11's (£1K each or thereabouts), they perform as £1K B&O subs. I'd say I'm happy. Listen to a Blu-ray movie and you really hear the explosions - even in the garden. I've had complaints. Ok, no way near the level of my old BL9s, but impressive. Certainly a lot better than without the BL11.

Also, my BL3s improved with the BL11 addition. Removed some of the bass, made them sound a little wider in the mid-range. Not a huge improvement, perhaps 10-15% better. But for £1K, I'm not complaining.
