I bid.

One of my all time great hi fi regrets is not buying the original Nitty Gritty when it was introduced. IIRC they only cost $125 or so.

Edit

By the way, listening to another set of cassettes from the FLURS. Peter Gabriel So.

And thinking of the victims in Boston....

My only concern is will it clean the record or simply grind the vinyl down to bits and pieces.

Not exactly a "playing right now" recorded music, but this past Tuesday I attended the final concert of the small town symphony orchestra where I live, that is lucky enough to draw musicians from both Atlanta and Columbus Georgia. Concert was entitled "Eine Kleine Mozart Musique" and was of course an all Mozart evening, with a Chinese young lady as pianist on a concerto, 21 years old, started piano at 4 and was very talented.

Wonderful small orchestra, excellent and very tight string section, in a small (a bit over 800 seat hall) at the local college that was recently extensively remodeled. Easy parking, easy to get in and out, amazingly good acoustics, polite people (waited if they arrived late to between pieces to take their seats). All in all a wonderful live music experience, and a good reminder of why live music is used by B&O to keep their listening panel's ears calibrated.

We are so lucky, living only 5 min. from the Mexico city university, and their very good concert hall with excellent acoustics.  Nothing goes up against live performed music, performed of good performers. We attend 4-5 concerts a year, classic and jazz.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

OMG - just been re-listening to Pro alios curantibus by Howard Goodall on the Lab9's and what a wonderful room filling sound they made.  The chorus is so beautifully detailed and the solo violin just gently suspended in the air, somewhere just above the fish-tank actually - go figure.  Must be those acoustic lenses in action....

Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5 with Rudolf Serkin and Seiji Ozawa, an utterly forgettable CD on the Telarc label. I have no doubt the performance was wonderful, would have loved to have been in Boston for the performance, but the CD recording is so overly compressed that although listenable, is without a hope of being “believable.” Angry Jeff

Hi Søren,

The Beethoven CD was for dinner preparation, however with the EXTENSIVE packing that I have going, music is very much apart of it. Yesterday the Beomaster 2400/Beocord 8004 got one heck of a workout as I was working on the bedroom.

You would have to watch the TV Series to fully understand the context of the history of a girl band and their "Rock Follies

(and note that Julie Covington is one of the women (such a beautiful voice - look for her "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" - I do not understand why she was not more successful, more famous), and Rula Lenska (wife of a mildly famous British TV actor))

I find the words and tone and notes of the song exquisitely sad ...

There's a space
In the sky
Where his plane
Used to fly
He is missing

Now his specs
And baton
And his dreams
All are gone
He is missing

Glenn Miller is missing
It was on the news
Glenn Miller is missing
Why do I feel so cold
Glen Miller is missing
Someone pass the booze
Glenn Miller is missing
Why do I feel so old

On the sound
Radio
His sweet horns
Start to blow
Though he's missing

But the music
Lies dead
Like a ghost
In my head
He's still missing

Glenn Miller is missing
At the Palais de Dance
Glenn Miller is missing
They imitate his band
Glenn Miller is missing
Just like an old romance
Glenn Miller is missing
He still does haunt the stand
Glenn Miller is missing
Why do I feel so old

I see what you mean, the lyrics are indeed important….. as are the voices. Thank you.

If you enjoy exquisitely sad music may I suggest Fado, hauntingly melancholy Portuguese music? Fado means fate in Portuguese and Fado is the melody of delicious resignation.
